Tower of Terror 10 Miler 2014

Hello all.

I hit a wall in my training about 2 months ago when I got promoted and had to move states. I was in the best shape I had been in years then I lived in a hotel for 5 weeks and could never get up the motivation to actually go down and use the treadmill (hate those things). I ran for the first time last week and around mile 2.5 my left knee started giving me problems. I slowed it down and ended up stopping around 3.5.

It is my own fault that I ended up this way so my new goal is to cross the finish line happy, healthy and standing up. I will have a decent corral placement so my intent is to stop for the characters I want and try to maintain a 3:1 ratio to finish out (2:1 if it get too rough). Thinking of purchasing a compression sleeve for my knee to keep it in line. Anyone have a suggestion as to which one I should purchase?

My friends (who purchased Bash tix) are frustrated that I won't finish as early as planned and I get it. They only purchased the tickets to party with me after and now our time will be cut short.

All in all, I am very disappointed in myself and am frustrated I let it get to this point. However, Disney is the most magical place on Earth and I know when I get there, I will have fun and the worry will slip away.

Thoughts? Advice? Stones to be thrown? Never mind, I'm throwing enough at myself. :(

I use the Tommy Copper knee sleeve and it's amazing. It's helped a lot with my knee problems. Good luck! And I'm sure once you get out there the excitement will work as a bit of a pain killer :)

I wouldn't worry about it too much. You got promoted. That job is what allows you to do run at Disney and you must be doing a good job to receive a promotion.

You'll be fine. You weren't going to run a PR anyway most likely so who cares, as long as you finish. Would it be great to finish faster to enjoy the party, sure. But, things don't always go as planned. Just go, have fun, and get your medal. You'll be at WDW everything else will work itself out.

I agree with what others said here. It's a Disney race - it will all be fine! I have also been sidelined for a month due to a vacation, followed by 3 simultaneous illnesses (sinus infection, strep throat, stomach flu). I just finally started running again last week. Right now, I am running 1 mile, walking .1m. That little walk break is really helping!

Hi, everyone. Hard to believe the race is only two weeks away. I have a couple questions. Does anyone know what characters will be on the 5k course? My family is running that one together and my son wants to dress "like someone". Also, will Dooney & Bourke have a booth at the expo? If so, do they sell a TOT themed bag or just the standard run Disney pattern? Thanks!

No ToT bag. If they have the D&B fire sale it will just be the standard runDisney one.

No clue who will be on course. At least scarecrow Mickey and I believe headless horseman for sure.

2 weeks to go and i will be on the road driving up to the world for 4 days. Tower weekend is going to be a blast this year. :woohoo: party:

In 2 weeks my friend and I will be on our way to the World! So excited! It's going to be a great mini-vacay weekend!

where will youi be two weeks from this time (12:40am) ?
a) in the broom lady-mobile
b) enjoying the after party
c) sleeping
d) drinking away the pain at a resort bar

I hope to have finished before 12am and telling tall tales of my epic run to family members at POFQ bar

Probably getting close to the finish line. The 2 hour 40 minute limit doesn't start until the last corral releases which won't be until almost 10:30pm!

Does anyone here run with a runners fanny pak of some kind? I'm looking for one and would love some suggestions.

Thanks

I use two of them,a small Nathan spibelt that basically only has space for my phone and a Fitletic one that has a bigger double pouch that holds my gels and beans.

Did a 10 mile run this am. Less than 2 weeks to go!

Has anyone seen the TOT t-shirts or merchandise pics?

No, but I want to. Also, when do we get to sign up for the queue for the shoes? Happy running, everyone!

I recently started using a flipbelt. So far it stays in place and does not bounce at all. It doesn't slip much, maybe ever so slightly when I wear it with compression tights that are a smoother fabric. But, I can barely tell.

Spi belt for runs where I don't need my own hydration.
If I will need hydration (runs longer than 3 miles or high heat/humidity) I use a Fitletic. I love this belt...it stays put, has a pouch for phone and ID, gels and glasses fit in the elastic loops on belts and mine has 2 h20 bottles. Used to have a Fuelbelt, but it bounced too much.

ETA: FYI, they sell both at the expo... but you know what they say about trying new stuff on race day

Is it sad that I am still considering get one of them at the expo anyway? I don't know where to buy them locally and I really want to be able to touch and look at them before I buy one.

You'll find some at the big sporting goods stores(Sports Authority and Dicks)but selection may be limited.A good running store should also have some good ones. For example I bought my small Nathan spibelt at Sports Authority but they didn't really have much of a selection of good bigger ones so I got the bigger Fitletic one at running store where my run club meets.

Tons of people buy stuff at the expo and run with/in it. Is it bad? I dont think a belt is a big deal. Shoes and shorts are the big ones I would not venture to try on a long race day.

Fit2Run carries Spi and Fitletic so if you are in Disney a couple days before the race you could buy it in DTD and try it on a couple mile run before race night.
