Tower of Terror 10 Miler 2014

I actually found I spent more money on water bottles last August than anything. This time I think I will bring a reusable Brita bottle. I should be able to get it on the plane if its empty, right?
Yep, I do this for every trip I take. The bottle just needs to be empty for TSA security. Once you're through that, you can fill it up and take it on the plane. Comes in very, very handy at WDW!

I use these too. LOVE THEM! We take them when we travel, softball practice, to the track...

I haven't figured out how to quote from multiple people in one response but thank you both for your responses on the BRITA bottle. I will be getting one for sure. That will save me significant money this trip, especially given how much water I will need to drink to make sure I am hydrated for the race.

Have you ever had disney tap water? Some places it's got its own very distinct flavor....we use the Brita bottles at home, but not sure they always work of you don't like your water having a taste :)

Yes, Disney tap water is gross. But the filter works. I could still taste it a tiny bit, but overall it was just fine. It seems the colder the water the better tasting.

Alternatively, you could have Garden Grocer or someone deliver a case of water bottles too.

I just wanted to share. I had my first 5k on a relatively flat course today and managed to finish in less than 40 minutes! My previous time was over 42 minutes. I'm hoping this bodes well for my first 10k a month from now.

A new PR! Congratulations!:thumbsup2

And I just noticed that you live really close to me (I'm in Prince William county.) Which 10k are you doing next month? I've been searching for local ones before the July 1 deadline but I'm not finding too many--hoping for a flat and fast one!
I've got my eye on Cascades 10k in Sterling on May 24 and Herndon festival on June 1...

Thanks! And I'm doing the Lawyer's Have Heart 10k in Georgetown. I think it's on the water and should be relatively flat. It's June 14th I think.

can I vent just for a minute? I completed a 10K yesterday (my first ever!) and haven't been training yet, so I knew my time would be really really bad, but I wanted proof of time to submit to RunDisney to try for a different corral placement. (I am just looking for an advantage in not getting swept :lmao:)

Anyway, I wasn't sure if I was even gonna go, it was an hour and a half drive, and since I haven't been training I wasn't sure if I could even beat the sweep time....

But I did! At a 14:30 pace...:cool1: So here is the venting part...I was like 10 minutes slower than the finisher before me, and apparently they didn't scan my chip (or the chip of the person who came in after me) Not sure exactly how that works, but the official results are posted online and I am not on them :sad1:

The clock was still running when I crossed, and a race official did take the bottom of my bib, so I'm totally bummed. It's discouraging. I know I'm slow, but I don't see why they can't post a correct final result, at least online! I say that because I've done a few races where when they post the initial results on the fence or whatever, so age group people can see where they placed, and they've never posted the final results there either. So I don't get to take pictures of my name like everyone else does, boo.

But this time it really smarts because I REALLY wanted that proof to submit to Disney. I've contacted the only contact person I can find for the race, hopefully they can correct it. It just kind of put a damper on the day.

Anyway, thanks ya'll for listening :flower3:

Thanks! I love all the support in this community :) I'm sorry about the 10k results issue. I've heard other people say that about other races but they contacted the race to get it fixed. Maybe you can try to email them with your name, bib number, and the time in the clock when you crossed and see if they can fix the online results?

I did my first 10k yesterday too. I had a 14:30 pace and for me that is pretty good. I just wanted something to send to Disney so I could hopefully move out of the very back. Now it's time to really focus on training.

That's completely weird, that you weren't swept but didn't have your time recorded. And that this has happened before in other races?

Glad you're contacting the race people about this one.

I think my time WAS recorded, but they tend to jump the gun in posting results at the event because people are really anxious to see if they got an age group award...and I think what happened this time is they just didn't scan in the last couple / few finishers, and used the premature results online as well.

This is not the first time that premature results have been posted at the actual event, but the first time (that I can recall) that they've also been used online. Of course it's the time that I really need them!!!! :rotfl2:

OH I see. I've never been in a race that had times shown while at the race. At least not that I know of!

Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers out there. Well figured I'd share my good running/health news. I ran a 5k and injured myself about a month ago, had to skip a 10k I planned on turning in for time. Went to the Doc last week, he said I have "million mile of tread left on the tired" and that I inflamed a tendon, feeling a lot better hoping to start running again sometime this week and do another 10k before July.

The other good news, I've been a smoker for about 17 year and with running, one of them had to go so I chose to keep running and stop smoking, I am on day 3 of no nicotine and close to feeling great, some people have said it takes a week to get out of your system. I am looking forward to breathing and running better for a healthier life.

Congrats on the good news from the doctor and the stopping smoking! Good luck with the 10 k :)
