Tower of Terror 10 Miler 2014

Haha! I bet everyone will be so sweaty they won't even notice!

::yes:: ^^ Truth! Make no mistake - even in fresh clothes, it could be hot enough that you'll get sweaty just hanging out in the park. The change of clothes felt great, though, even without benefit of a shower!

Plus, I'm sure I'll welcome a sweaty hug from a stranger after running 10 miles as it should help me stay on my feet!

I'm assuming the finish of the race isn't near where our cars will be parked, right? If it is for some reason, I'll offer up my car for a changing station. I've got an Element, there's plenty of space in it and I have blackout boards to cover the windows :) Might even have the cabana tent for it, if I can find a cheap one in decent shape.

Starts and ends at HS :) so you could use your car. I figure I'll leave a bag. At bag-check and find the nearest air-conditioned area to change.

Nope, though it's a great idea! Though the race begins and ends at DHS, we've not been allowed to park there in previous years; parking for the race was at WWOS and runners/spectators were bused from there to DHS and back.

Disney's missing a grand opportunity here.

Run a race, hug a stranger, make a love connection.

A whole new kind of "speed" dating.

V is good. V is wise.
Thank you.

Restroom it is.

I was planning on having my husband (non-runner) bring some wipes when he meets me after the race so I can at least freshen up a bit for the party. Now I know to have him bring me extra clothes as well.

This is all assuming stuff that happened last year will happen this year.

The walk from the finish to the reunion area was approximately 2 hours long, uphill, the entire way. OK it wasn't, but it FELT two hours long, and there WAS an uphill in there. It was NOT a brief jaunt from the finish to the place to find your loved ones.

So first, have your phone with you. I made a bad decision 2 seconds before leaving for the race, and left my phone. Not only did I miss my corral because of a horrendous bathroom line and people around me that were much more casual than I was about where they started in the race (so they didn't know I'd started 2+ corrals back), but then they didn't know where I was at the end.

Don't have him bring wipes. Bring some washcloths. I *think* there was a citrusy, wet, washcloth handed out at the end of the TOT last year, and that was nice. Towels are good. Wipes are just chemicals smearing things around on you. Towels....

My post-race clothing = new bra, new unders, yoga dress, flip flops, and...long-sleeved jacket. Even when sweating as I was after TOT (like crazy) I get cold cold cold and more COLD after running a long distance. Despite how hot it was, I was shivering, but didn't want to put on more clothes. Now I know that compression socks, or at least knee-high, socks are good too.

So know yourself! Know that you might be weak and shaky, so don't bring complicated clothing. but you will probably want to change everything, so be sure to bring everything! :)

They handed out the towel thing after PHM as well. I agree they are chemically. Good idea with the towel. Another reason to find a restroom! Wet down a towel and wipe all that lovely sweat off

So I put a shout-out on my FB page that I'm doing the ToT. I asked my friends to weigh in on their favorite Disney villain.

Someone said "Michael Eisner" :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

Wonder how I can translate that into a running costume!!!

Looks like it will be a sundress for me in my clear 'stuff' back and a set of clothing for my husband then.

Just a FYI if it has not already been mentioned. It appears that runDisney is no longer allowing people to pick up other people's bibs for them. This doesn't affect me as I always go to the Expo but I know that it might affect others. It looks as if it starts with the Disneyland Marathon and is for all races following that.

I'm admittedly a big Eisner fan, but that's just BRILLIANT! :worship:

Maybe you could be a magic band or a fast pass plus kiosk! Lol

This made me laugh! :rotfl:

I'm so glad you all mentioned the towels and the change of clothes. I'm sure I will forget some things I should have thought of but at least I won't be the only hot sweaty mess still in running clothes surrounded by a bunch of freshly toweled off girls in sun dresses ;)

I'm only at 4 miles now for my weekend runs. There are lots of things I need to learn - and overcome - before ToT!

I think we're at a similar place :) I had my longest run last weekend and it was 4.5 miles. I definitely have a lot to learn, about running but also about things to think of when traveling for a race. I'm doing a couple local races before October but they'll be shorter distances and won't involve travel.

In case it helps anyone, here's what I've brought in my checked bag for TOT:

damp washcloth in a ziploc
small dry towel
clean shirt, bottoms, underwear
flip flops
Clif bar
hat or bandanna (I have short hair that requires a gazillion products and tools to look decent after being soaked - much easier to just cover it up)
small first aid kit - bandaids, neosporin, ibuprofren

Everything goes into a shoulder bag or backpack, which goes into the clear bag check bag provided by rD. After I pick it up, the backpack comes out and the wet race clothes go into the plastic bag, then into the shoulder bag/backpack, which is loads easier to carry than the plastic rD bags.

I do have to say, all this talk about the humidity in October is getting me a bit nervous. I have been reading all week and thinking, "What did I get myself into?". Everyone, including myself, has been sick all week so reading about the humidity while not feeling good probably didn't help but still. Even when I workout in my basement in the middle of the winter, and it's been COLD here this winter, I work out a really good sweat. I might need to tow a cart of water behind me from the sounds of it.

Don't worry you'll make it. Just start hydrating a few days before and drink at every water station.

This. Some people underestimate the humidity and wait to start hydrating until they're already starting to feel the effects. In addition to sipping water throughout, I also drizzled a bit of water on top of my head and down my back just to feel a little cooler through each mile. If you're proactive and listen to your body, you'll be fine even if the weather isn't comfortable.
