Does anybody grab extra towels off the cart for their stay in DVC? Is that considered a major no-no?

If you ask the housekeeper, they will provide extra towels for you. Then they can appropriately inventory their cart at the end of the day. I've never had a problem getting extra towels, pillows, or other types of linens when I've asked.

agree...I'd feel sorry for the housekeeper thinking he/she has enough supplies to clean the their required number of rooms and having towels go missing

DVC has the option of having you pay for towels (though often the housekeepers will just give you some). If they intended them to be free, they wouldn't have a charge for them.

As a DVC member, our dues pay for towels and for laundering them. You get a standard number of towels in your room. The towels are replaced on day 4 of your stay. If you need more than the standard number of towels or want fresh towels more often, you can get them but you are supposed to be charged for them. The idea behind this is that if you want more than the standard amenities then you should pay for them yourself rather than having the cost spread across the other resort owners via higher dues. I think the cost of the towel pack is $6.

Many people have reported asking for more towels and not being charged for them but according to the rules, there is a cost and it may be added to your bill if you make the request.

So to answer your question, no, I would not grab extra towels off the cart. If I wanted more towels I would request them and pay the $6 fee.

Taking items from the cart is not the proper thing to do.

DVC Members are expected to pay for extra towels so technically, that person would be stealing and defrauding an Innkeeper.

Fair enough - thank you for the information. :)

So how many towels do they consider a standard amount on arrival for 4 days?

Your initial supply should be equal to the occupancy of the villa - 4 sets for Studios and 1BRs, 8 sets for 2 BRs and 12 sets for GVs. These items will be exchanged every 4 days by housekeeping unless additional services are purchased.

Since laundry facilities are provided at no charge (in the villa for 1BRs and larger and near the pool or elsewhere in the building for Studios), additional linen supplies will have the charge for additional services as already noted.

DVC members/guests can also purchase additional housekeeping services as desired.

Studio or 1 bedroom: 4 bath, 2 hand, 4 wash cloths
2 bedroom: 8 bath, 4 hand, 8 wash cloths.

That is excellent. Thank you! :)

But my hubby did take some extras from the pool. He only used the pool once and I didn't use it at all. He figured we still used less towels than if we both went down every day.

If we need more towels I always ask rather than just take them. I have never had an issue when I ask for towel. Usually I just ask for say 3 towels and they give me more than I even ask for. Then I tip the mousekeeper for being so nice.

I have 2 comments on what I've seen posted here...

We stayed in a 1-bedroom villa last week. It appeared we were "shorted" 1 set of towels, so I called housekeeping on our first night for 1 extra set. Surprisingly, housekeeping kept questioning me to the effect of: "are you sure you only want one more set - this is your chance for me to bring more"! I think because I called the first night it wasn't an issue. She made it sound like if I had called the 2nd night or later we would have been charged. Go figure. :confused3

Also, I don't see anything wrong with taking pool towels up to your room if you need them to "cover up" out of the pool. What really bugged me is that the guests in the rooms around us for some reason decided to leave them laying around outside in a heap on the floor hallways. It didn't look nice and I found it disrespectful of not only housekeeping but of the other guests. Who wants to look at a pile of wet towels left in the hallway???

OK, my rant is done! ;)

Taking the pool towers for the purpose of supplementing the room allotment is wrong, using them as pool towels including using as cover ups back to the room. Apparently it costs more to launder pool towels than regular towels. Taking towels off the cart is wrong. Asking for them is OK and DVC should charge for this service as is their policy but I realize that sometimes they do and sometimes not.

LOL!!! I never see the seriousness in some issues!!!

If I were in a 1BR with the four of us, I'd just order an extra towel pack. The $6 is small in the grand scheme of things. In a 2BR, the eight sets are enough for the four of us, and then some.

I also get my extra towels from the pool. There isn't a sign forbidding guests from taking the towels to their rooms so I don't consider this wrong. We always leave the used towels in the room and the housekeepers have never said there was a problem. ;)
