Towel Animals

I have to agree that tipping does not guarantee towel animals. We had three separate rooms (in a row) at CBR (2, 2, and me by myself-which I highly recommend by the way). I made the mousekeeping envelopes before we left using Disney print artist. They were quite elaborate. I gave everyone instructions to put $5 a day in each envelope and leave on their pillow. I got a bunny one day, one day all my Donald's were sitting in a window like they were people watching and one day they were all lined on the bed with a note saying they missed me. That was what I got for seven days. I truly expected to have them everyday and was quite disappointed (at first) to find I didn't. I must have missed the small print on the boards that said not everyone gets them. My parents only got the bunny one day. My Sis and BIL got the bunny and something else another day.

I now have realistic expectations for next years trip and will not expect them everyday. But they were nice the days we got em and great picture taking opportunities.

Oh yeah, it wasn't me, but a "member" of our party did take one home (a fact I just learned about a month ago). I made sure they knew I totally didn't approve! But the other members of our party didn't have a problem with it. Guess it's a morality issue.

We've never taken them home, we just take pictures at the time. Actually, it never crossed my mind until just now when I read the thread. I'm sure you're not supposed to, that's the same as taking towels, etc and that's definately frowned upon in the hotel world:D :D :D

Well here is some information that came from a house keeper and other Disney CMs about towel animals.

Tipping has nothing to do with weather or not you are going to get a towel animal. If they are the creative type housekeeper that is going to do one they will do it regardless of tip or no tip.

This service is on their own time and is not in their list of duties.

Taking towel animals is not acceptable and is just like stealing anything else from the room.

We had gotten them many times including other in room gifts that we could take home but in our last few stays we have not had anything “extra” in our room other than a very clean room which is what the tip is for and not to entice them to leave special things in the room.
I have even seen trip reports were people listed as a negative experience that they did not get towel animals.

Towel animals are great and fun and people of all ages love to be surprised by them in their room but lets put things into better perspective.

For some photos of some things done in our room you can go to this link.

Breathe, tikiman...you seem a little uptight about the topic of towel animals. I'm sure that if they saw taking the towel animals as stealing (as you say) that they'll charge you for missing towels. Right? And if not, then it's not stealing...right??

Also, when I asked the question in my earlier post about tipping, it was regarding tipping in general AND NOT as a bribe for getting special services like the towel animals.

Now, with that said...I hope everyone gets a towel animal at their next stay (even you tikiman). :earboy2:

:wave2:

Sorry blondeqtip,

I did not mean to seem uptight or upset. Just posting what I was told about the issue.

I will say I get upset when people report that their stay at a resort was not good and one of the reasons was because they got no towel animals. I was not directing anything toward you. J

I love this thread, it answers some questions..And prompts me to gather up some stuffed animals to see what will happen to them when we leave them in the room!!! Those Mousekeepers are so creative, aren't they? I always leave a couple of extra dollars and ask for extra coffee in the am, have never been "neglected" in that area, or the towel animal area.

This idea with the toys and stuffed animals is so amusing to me. Is that why when we stayed at the ASMo resort last year, most of the windows had a display of toys and souveniers in them?? I thought it was an inside "thing" the guests did for themselves, kinda cute...

So when DH went out of the room for a minute, I lined up the "libations" we had brought along in the window. I had a display of a six-pack of Killian's Irish Red Ale, a bottle of premixed Orange Creamsicles, and a bottle of Margarita Mix next to the tequila bottle.. (We ended up drinking none of it, but we sure had a nice selection!) Of course, I took it down as soon as he saw it and we had a good laugh...

Yup, when my cousin and I went in December, the mousekeeper at AKL made us animals almost every day. They were so cute. We really enjoyed coming back to the room and seeing them.

Have a great trip.

We are always delighted by the creative creatures left in our suite/villa and cabin by generous & caring Disney castmembers! I hope you receive a couple on your next visit to the MAGIC! ::yes::

P.S. Please note: We have NEVER taken any of these towel creations, and would never even contemplate such. We enjoy them for what they are: an UNEXPECTED SURPRISE! :) Once we have seen them, they are carefully dismantled and left with other towels (for housekeeping). The PHOTOS are our way of PRESERVING and REMEMBERING the MAGIC!!

Hi,

DH and I have gotten towel animals on all our visits to WL and when we were on the Wonder. We don't have any children yet, so it's always just DH and I and each time, they seem to make towel animals and leave them on our bed or vanity.

They are a wonderful surprise though, and just adorable.::yes::

Well we did take our first two bunnies from the CBR home because my kids wanted them and the mousekeeper said they were for them to keep. I have also read on this board that some maid said they buy the towels for the animals but I don't believe that. Anyway I took those two but none after that. If they want to charge me I really don't care as they were really cute!

Maids will tell you to take them as they don't care if you walk out with resort property, they want the tips.

Call management and ask and they will tell you no as Tikiman stated.

That is why I said that I didn't believe a maid would say that. If there was a towel animal that DD couldn't part with I would have no problems paying for a towel. No biggie.

at vero we got a very cute elephant, osyter with soap "pearl" and some things at pop we could not identify:) ! oh well they tried. we always tip daily and usually i add a little extra note thanking them for the great job and put it under the tip so they know for sure it is a tip I thin leave it on the bedsie table...made the misteak of leaving it on the armoir once and they didn't find it..must have been ashort housekeeper:)

the ones we got wouldn't have lasted the trip home anyway ,paid for or not, since they fell apart when i tried to move them off the bed and i couldnt' get them to look the same again!

I will say I get upset when people report that their stay at a resort was not good and one of the reasons was because they got no towel animals. I was not directing anything toward you. J

In case this was directed at me, let me just clarify that I did not say that my stay at the resort was "not good" over something as trivial as towel animals, just that I misunderstood that towel animals weren't a perk of tipping. At the time, I couldn't figure out how my careful planning in mousekeepng envelope production and placement could have gone so wrong. Basically, I expected them when in all actuality I should have (and after a couple of days was) grateful for them.

Only when we got back and I read more on the boards about them did I discover that I had gotten it all wrong. I didn't have a bad time over it and I my no means meant to make anyone "upset" over the thought that I did!

Boy people are touchy in here.

Keebles, no it was not directed at you either in fact I am referring to another posting entirely.

Skiwee1,

I am calling the towel police on you. You will know who they are when they show up at your door to take back the towels they look like the guy in the photo below.

Hey we got the female version of that at the Poly once! If it were male then I just might have been tempted to bring him home. :jumping1:

Just DH and I - no kids and we have had many, many towel animals - swans, birds, mickey heads, etc. I am a little overgenerous with mousekeeping - I give them $5 a day for DH and I. We tend to get very good treatment (extra towels and toiletries, etc) - just seems worth it to us.

Skiwee1,

I would have traded you for the female version. I guess they would need a few extra towels for that.

I took part of him home. I took the leis and the shoes (since they were mine).

Dixigirl

We always tip $5 a day and $2 for turndown but since tip has nothing to do with if you get anything in the room we did not expect anything and the last two years we have not had anything special in the room from housekeeping. They did do a very good job of cleaning and leaving plenty of towels.

Sorry Tikiman, I wasn't trying to be touchy, just afraid I had offended someone and was trying to head it off at the the proverbal pass by clarifying my position. I'm a bit gun-shy with posting because some people are extremely touchy. Sorry if in the process I became one!

Great towel animal! I don't think I could sleep with a thing like that in my room! It's like a towel monster!! Reminds me of that scene in Poltergiest with the clown!!

No problem Keebles. Yeah the first time I opened the door and saw it in the corner of my eye it scared the s*** out of me and the funny thing is that even after I knew it was there it still got me every time I opened the room door.
