Heading back in the fall with husband and 4 yo. What is a touring plan? Are they personalized? Which one is best out there (I'm happy to pay to subscribe to one).

Thanks

I use touringplans.com but there are arguments for others. I had seen several recommendations for it when I decided to use it. You can create personalized plans or use theirs. it does cost (like $12 for the year) but when I read the information about it, all the way at the bottom of their landing page was a code to get like 10 or 20% off.

Did you find it helpful?

TouringPlans.com is a great resource (although I've heard that they've lost a step in the past year or so), for tracking crowds, creating personalized plans, helping determine best Fastpasses, etc.

If you like organization and pre-planning (as I do), it's incredibly useful, but if you're afraid of information overload, it might not be a great resource.

Keep in mind that the site is tied to the Unofficial Guides to Disney, so you'll find a lot of the same information in those books (but not as easily searchable). If you buy one of the books, you should get a discount if you sign up at the site.

A touring plan is a list of attractions set in the order that you will visit them, starting at a specific time of the day (usually rope drop) and designed to get you the shortest waits possible for each attraction. Touring plans can either be generic, pre-made and you just see the attractions that they have on their list, or they can be personalized where you hand pick what attractions you want, and they give you a plan to get them done in the shortest period of time.

In my experience, first off, touring plans I think are less necessary with the advent of FP+. Secondly, I find that touring plans are of MUCH more use to people who don't have a lot of experience in the parks. When you have spent a good deal of time in the parks (we've visited for 2 weeks each summer since 2008) you will have a pretty good idea as to what order to do things in, and the touring plans may no longer be a significant advantage to you.

In the past, I have used both touringplans.com, and ridemax. Of the two, I preferred the plans I got from Ridemax. The last few years, I haven't bothered to use a commercial touring plan. I schedule my FP+, and then just hit the park with a general idea of what rides I want to fit in between the FP+ times, and life is good.

There are so many attractions that it's almost impossible to do everything. Also the parks are large and having a plan saves time and steps. If you want a free look at some touring plans this site has plans for each park. http://www.easywdw.com/easy/ Just click the Touring Theme Parks on the drop down box under each park. Periodically, Josh the site owner, walks his recommended touring plans and compares his timing with his recommendations.

Alternatively, Touring Plans publishes the Unofficial Guide to WDW and Josh Humphrey of easywdw.com and Dave Shute of **************.com have The Easy Guide to Your First Walt Disney World Visit. Both are good guides.

Any site that offers touring plans tend to agree on one thing. That is, getting to any park before it opens trumps a touring plan. Even if that particular park is expected to have large crowds.

If you decide to use any touring plan make sure you understand how it is to be used, it's limitations, and what happens when your 4 yo gets tired and wants to leave the park or take a break.

The days of detailed touring plans to help guide you through the park are over (fastpass+, amongst other things). However general guidelines and tips can help you set up a "flexible" plan of attack for your park visit. Then you have the best of both worlds.
