We are planning our first trip to universal for two days the last weekend of May 2014. I have looked through the touring plans on the ** website. They are helpful to give me some idea of what to do, however my DH does not do coasters of any kind. In addition my kids are leery of thrill rides as well. What touring plans would be suggested if we hit each park for one full day? Btw we have not decided if we will stay on site or not. Thanks so much for you help!

Though we've done US/IOA several times with kids under 10, we've never used a touring plan. We usually go in the off season though - I'm wondering if that weekend you're going is Memorial Day weekend? We were there one year Memorial Day weekend and a bit unprepared, but the kids were 2 months old and barely 3 years then. It was out first with-kids trip and we learned a lot and did a much better job the next time! We did Disney the first with-kids trip then too. So, as long as your kids aren't all super smalls or if you have some experience with Disney, you should be okay touring with kids as long as you're familiar with the rides/attractions. Like Disney, the important thing is to know the attractions well and then you can figure it out as you go. (Do figure out what you're hitting first though!) If that's memorial day weekend, then I strongly suggest staying onsite for the Express pass.

Thanks for the reply! When we r going is fortunately not memorial weekend but the weekend after. I have done research and know what rides the kids want to do. They r not big fans of roller coasters so we will be avoiding those. My DD loves meeting characters as well so we will try to find those too. We have been to disney three times and know that very well. Just hoping we can pick up on touring universal as well as we do disney!

We just visited Universal and IOA with a 5 year old and a 10 year old. Our kids did fantastic. Now let me start by saying that our kids are not scared of rides. We did not use a tour plan. We went to Harry Potter first when we went to IOA and then we hit up Minion Mayhem first when we went to Universal. Just go and enjoy it. You do not need to plan Universal as much as you do Disney. Enjoy your trip. I know that we did!

We have done Universal 2x now as a family. The first my Dd was 8 the 2nd she was 9.we never used any touring plan.We stay onsite and just go with what appeals to us.From research We knew what rides would likely scare DD and did a Child swap for those. We also knew what were must dos and made those a prioirty.
