I don't know if they still do it, but I hope so! I've done it twice, but last year when I showed up, they said it was discontinued until after the holidays. There's never been a sign-up necessary, just show up at the appointed time, I think it's 3:45.
We have been to Boma for breakfast dinner and love it !
We have a trip planned for the fall and just remembered about reading/hearing about the tour.
Let's hope they still do the tour !
Other than this is in the wrong forum, the tour does both Boma and Jiko and usually includes some samples of food from both. We did it in April, as well as the tour of Sana'a. Whenever I stay at the lodge or villas, I just check the calendar of events for the times.
On these tours the design elements of the restaurants are explained and the guide will often tell how it relates to their experiences growing up in Africa. Neither tour goes into the kitchen, but usually their is some interaction with a chef as well as some sampling of the food. In all the times I have done the tour, it was never the same, except for the zebra domes in Boma.
We've done the tour of Boma/Jiko twice. One of the CM from Africa will take your group around the resturants and point out elements of the design and the cultural significance. They will also share some of thier own expereince with you. They give sample of the food, at Boma its something different and then a Zebra Dome. At Jiko it's the bread service. A similar tour happens at Sanaa, and the sample is the bread service as well, I think. Call before to find out if the tour is offered the day you want to go. The tours alternate days between resturants. We enjoy theses tours and hopefully it's still offered October. Last time we went was last October.
