Tour bus to San Diego Zoo?

Has anyone taken a bus tour, just to the zoo? How long do you stay at the zoo before your return bus trip? We were going to rent a car and drive ourself, but I found out that a round trip is only $25 each. Bus ride only, of course. With someone else doing the driving, can't beat that.

We disliked the tour bus. It seemed to stop everywhere to pick up passengers! I believe it gave us 5 hours at the Zoo. It took 2 1/2 hour to get their. Yechh. Check your specific bus service to see if this is true. We did not try the bus after last time (4 years ago) so my answer is dated.

The second time we had our hotel shuttle drive us to the Amtrack station in Anaheim, took a train to San Diego and took a cab to the Zoo. That was the most relaxing. We did this on a weekday to avoid the infamous LA area commute.

You might just want to rent a car especially if their are more than two of you. I have found San Diego an easy town to negotiate. When we tag SD on or DL vacation as a day trip, we always go on Sunday (especially if we drive) If we leave early, traffic is not a problem.
