Tough to be a Bug - Scary ?

The last couple of times I've been there, the dark portion resulted in more "walk-outs" than anything else. It gets pretty black in there and your little one might not be able to see you if not on your lap.

My kids are 14 and 12 3/4 and they still won't ride it! I had to take DS out in Dec 04, when he was 11. But he really hates loud noises, and the spiders completely freaked him out.

I cringe just thinking about that show!!! We've seen it twice (still don't know why I agreed to see it a 2nd time) and DS and I didn't like it any better. My suggestion would be to do Mickey's Philharmagic at MK and the Muppet one at MGM before It's Tough to Be a Bug or Honey I Shrunk the Audience (I don't like that one either). It's the feeling that somethings on you or poking you that I don't like. Mickey's Philharmagic and the Muppets are just fun and everyone enjoys those!

My kids have never had a problem with it. If they are little we stress it is all make believe and if they are lite and not pushing back on the seat they hardly feel the poke- my 2 1/2 yr old didn't know what we were talking about so when we went back when he was 5 he couldn't wait but hardly felt it and was still puzzled what the big deal was! Haven't had any walk outs on our shows either.

My 4 1/2 year old LOVED it last year. Now on the other hand our 2 year old literally thought she was going to die when the room filled with smoke, she was clawing at me, crying, and trying to escape, I felt soooo bad, like the worst mother for taking her in there because the fear in her eyes is something I will never forget. Again, my 4 1/2 year old knew what the smoke was, wasn't scared of Hopper, and had a GREAT time. For those kids, this is an awesome show- heck for adults it is incredible - I loved it. But I wouldn't take a toddler- just too scary and they don't understand what is happening.

My kids hates it too. The first time they were 6 and 8. We had no idea what we were getting into. We thought it was a movie and they would be fine. It's really loud. At one point we looked and couldn't find the boys. They were cowering under the seats scared to death! They've been to 3D movies in the past also. I think the hardest part for them was the big boom and then total darkness when the water sprays at your face. I have to admit the spray on that day was so strong that I could barely breath myself.

Now, at 15 and 13 they still don't want to go. We've made them go back a few times, it's just not their thing.

Good Luck,
Deb

I am not too worried about my 10 and 8 year old, but I am a little concerned about my 2.5 year old. Should I have her not wear the glasses just to be safe?

Hopefully we will get to see the 3D show at MK the day before to help give the idea of 3D shows. Is it very similar to Honey I Shrunk the Audience?

My son 5 got on every single thrill ride, including EE three times and Dinosaur and he was terrified at It's Tough to Be a Bug. He said it was the dark that bothered him. The sad thing was he would not do any other 3D movies either, after lots cotton candy I got him to do Mickeys Phillarmagic and he was still taking the glasses off every now and then.

Everytime I see ITTBAB there are screams and cries from children. Some parents are curteous enough to leave with their frightened child, some tough it out and ruin the show for those around them. If you have any reason to believe your child will be scared, she probably will be.

Yes, I agree. EVERY SINGLE TIME there are very frightened children that are crying. Why don't you skip it since you sense your child will be frightented? There are plenty of other things to do.

Ditto. One of our little Disney hobbies is sitting outside the exit (while we do kid-switch) and watching the doors burst open at the climactic moment with all the screaming, crying, traumatized children being escorted out of the theater. This happens EVERY time. It doesn't make sense to me to put a kid through something in the name of "fun" if there's a little voice that says they might not be ready or might not like it.

Taking our 6 yo DGD for her first ever WDW visit. I've heard that It's tough to be a bug is scary ? Anyone help with this ?? Thanks

I have only been to the one at California Adventure so I don't know if they are exactly the same but I am almost 25 and it scares me a little. I am terrified of spiders so the part where they come down from the ceiling is like one of my worst nightmares come true. :scared1: Also the movie has a scene with a big tarantula that freaks me out. Now I am a grown up and I know that the stuff in there isn't really but it still scares the heck out of me so a kid might get even more freaked. I will say that everytime I have seen the show at least 2 kids started screaming and had to leave during the show.
Mainly I think it is just really loud, dark and things suprise you so if your kid doesn't have any major bug fears or is afraid of the dark or loud noises they should be fine. If you think they are going to be ok but still want to be safe just sit all the way at the end by the exit doors so you can make a quick escape.

Oh PLEASE don't do this to your 2.5 year old, belive me. The 3-D glasses don't matter, my daughter didn't have them on but she could still see the scary animatronic Hopper and the room fill with smoke, that is what scared her to death. My 4 year old LOVED it and we'll do it again with him this year, but definitely too scary for a 2.5 year old.

We did it at cali adventure (not sure if it is exactly the same) but my boys were 3/6 and they loved it. 3 y/o sat on my lap. They are both bug lovers but a little on the timid side about riding rides. We left just laughing our behinds off. Can't wait to do again.

The first time I went on it I was 8.. I cried the entire time. When I was 12 my parents made me go again. I hated it. I will never go on it again.

OMG. We made the mistake of doing ITTBAB as the very first thing of the day when we went to DCA in February. My best friend and I took my DD6 and her DD11 (who has a kind of autism that makes her (among other things) afraid of loud noises and unexpected events). BFriend and her DD were outta there like 2 minutes after the show started; my DD and I stayed until the show was over, but she hated it and cried. Did NOT want to go on it when we were there again a few days ago (but was willing to deal without the glasses for the sake of letting her grandparents see the show - fortunately for her, the show was down). The whole 3D thing has pretty much been ruined since. We went to Honey I Shrunk the Audience the other day and despite my prepping her for it, she acted traumatized through the whole thing...she kept expecting some bad thing to happen. This is the kid who went on Tower of Terror a couple of hours earlier and was fine with it (after it was over anyway, heh). I, on the other hand, love the 3D shows. I guess it depends on the kid and the situation. I didn't think of my DD as a scaredy cat before that, but it really freaked her out to the point of making her apprehensive of other Disney experiences, which is too bad.

I think a 6 yr old would be fine. just make sure you explain it will be dark, it can be loud...it is going to look & feel like things are coming at you, but it is all fun and Mickey Mouse wont let anything really happen to you.

We returned a week ago from WDW (and I already want to go back) and my almost 5 and almost 3 year olds LOVED it. We held them in our laps so they missed that part of the show and we also told them all about the show so there were no surprises. When Hopper appeared they were startled but not scared. In fact both wanted to go again after we were done. There were lots of screaming from kids and adults in the show and several kids had to leave early. Mine are still talking about the stink bugs and actually wanted me not to kill a bug in the house the other day so the message worked.

DS was 10 the one and only time he went. Near the end of the show something pokes you from the back of the seat and it hit him in the backbone. He said it really hurt ( must have hit a nerve ). He never wanted to go on it again in the next 5 trips since then. The last trip he was 16 and he still remembered that part.

Our neighbor said it was a great show ..."Don't Miss It!" ...so when we got there and the CM's were saying no waiting..come on down we went. As we were going down the trail into the Tree of Life I read the signs about it being dark and loud and scaring and said something to DW about DD3 being scared. DW said she'll be ok but she wasn't and wouldn't do hardly anything the rest of the trip because she was scared.
