Tough to Be a Bug - how scary?

I work at It's Tough to Be a Bug, and yes, almost every show we have a handful of parents taking terrified children to the exit. It is loud and intense. Heck, I don't even care for it myself and will sit far up in my seat when I experience it as a guest. I've had to walk through the theatre during the Hopper scene to lead people out of the theatre sometimes, and it's scary walking through the darkness and fog.

Of course, everything varies from kid to kid. I've seen really little ones go through it unscathed. I hate when parents complain that Disney made the attraction too scary....you are warned several times before you enter, and Disney is for everyone not just kids- some people like getting scared. My mom loved the show! When parents ask me if it's really that scary, I say- it's LOUD, it's DARK, and there are things that pop out at you as well as effects in the seat. You know your kid best- use your own discretion. Oh- and if you think your kid may not make it, try to seat on the far left of the theatre so you can make a quick escape.

My 4yo son is not a big fan of the 3D type shows. He was ok with Philharmagic, but Shrek at Universal really scared the heck out of him. TBug's Life was somewhere in between--not overly scary to him. The imagination is very powerful when they are little. He went multiple times on Big Thunder Railroad, Splash Mountain, Test Track, and Tower of Terror and was fine on all those. Go figure!

Having said that, you don't know how your kids will react, so give it a try. I will be bringing my son to Shrek again when we are at Universal next April. Now that he has done it once I think he will be fine and now knows what to expect. He cried the first time he went on Jimmy Neutron at Universal and laughed the last visit when I brought him.

Well, looks like I'll be skipping that one. I really want to do Philharmagic and the Muppets with them which I'm sure they'll enjoy so I better not ruin it by doing The Bugs first. My DS is rather cautious and hearing others screaming and crying would upset him more than the movie I think. Fear is contagious. Oh well, now we'll have more time to ride Kali River rapids again which will be their absolute favorite! Thanks for all your personal experiences - it really helped!
