At least, I thought it as a very touching story. When my dog went missing this week, I spoke to a lot of people in the course of putting posters up around town and a lot of people told me their lost dog stories. The most touching one I heard really brought a tear to my eye.
This lady's dog was lost for about a week before she got the dreaded call from animal control telling her that her dog had been hit and been found dead in a ditch. He said he was so busy that the call had come two days before, but he had not had the time to go and pick it up yet.
So she decided to drive over and look to see for herself if it was her dog. She went to the people's house who'd reported it and sure enough she did recognize her dog, bloodied and laying motionless in the ditch. The lady who owned the house came out and started to trying to console her, and as they were talking she looked toward the ditch and said "Oh my god!"
The dog was crawling out of the ditch toward its owner!
Seems that the dog lay near death for two days, without even the strength to wag a tail or give any sign that he was alive. Everyone assumed he was dead. But the sound of his owner's voice gave him that extra strength to try and get to her.
He was rushed to a vet...and they were able to save him!
It just goes to show don't underestimate the love between animals and the people that love them.
