Totally terrible - they shouldnt have to do this:

The Phelps group does this for the publicity they get and, I am sure, hoping that someone will do something stupid -- like take a swing at one of them -- so they can file a lawsuit (or multiple lawsuits). They are a real-life version of Internet trolls. I believe that if they were completely ignored, they would eventually go away. (But then again maybe not. :( )

There's nothing Christian about the Phelps family at all. Just because they label themselves Christian that doesn't make them Christian.

These people aren't Christians. They are followers of Rev. Fred Phelps.

exactly! Phelps is the lowest form of pond scum.

Kudos to the Patriot Guard! What an awesome job!!!!
 :thumbsup2

These so-called Christians are just plain nuts! I would lose it if I were at a funeral and saw these people. They make me sick!

Phelps and his ilk aren't Christian or even human IMO. They are the lowest forms of life.

How awful!

My father, a WWII veteran, died recently. I supppose this group would have issues with him because he fought for a country that "embraces homosexuals?" I remember all but having a nervous breakdown at Dad's funeral and wound up at the hospital the next morning, shaking uncontrolably. That was with a dignified, peaceful funeral (with the honor guard, etc). It would have put me right in the grave with Dad if some group like this showed up.

This country doesn't "embrace" homosexuals. It allows for different lifestyles. You could also say that this country "embraces" freedom of religion" its that very freedom that allows groups like this to form in the first place. If they really think the United States is so awful, well, there's other countries that don't "embrace homosexuals". They also don't "embrace" freedom of reliogion, freedom of speech, the press,,,,,,,,,,hmmmmm, where have I heard those words before?

You are absolutely right. "By their deeds you shall know them". It works both ways.

This is the most horrid thing I've heard!
I was raised a Baptist, and I'm ashamed & appalled that the Phelps group are using that in their church name. What a disgrace to any Baptist or Christian!!

I'm so glad that someone is taking a stand against them!!

These people are MORONS! They live in this country that "embraces" homosexuality. And last I looked the majority of this country isn't embracing them.

I'm sorry to hear of your father's death vhoffman. :(

I too recently buried my father (December 2005), a Korean War veteran. He had a beautiful military service too. If any of those lunatics had shown up at his service I can't imagine what I would have done. I know nothing would have kept me from attending his graveside, but afterwards there's no telling what would have happened.   I hate to sound so hateful, but those people just bring out the worst in me. There's nothing Christian, American or patriotic about any of them. They are from a whole other planet.

Sad to think that soldiers died protecting people like Rev. Phelps. He seems to have forgotten that without the soldiers to protect this country, he wouldn't have any freedom in the first place.

They recently protested in my city, and at the church where I grew up, and where my dad still attends. The Rector wanted to "kill 'em with kindness" and invite them into the parish hall for coffee and donuts, but the local police made it clear that attempting to engage these nuts was a big mistake. They do everything they can to provoke a physical confrontation while they are protesting and then file lawsuits.

Before anyone goes off on a tangent, Fred and his group have every right to say what they want; this is freedom of speech. However, freedom of speach goes both ways, and this is just pathetic. He and his group are a bunch of morons. You're right binny, this is the lowest form of pond scum.

Way to go Patriot Guard. Kudos to them!

What kind of 'Christian' (or any person with sensitivity!) goes to someone's funeral specifically to have a go?!

Years ago, I was at an Elton John concert and they were there. They had kids walking around holding protest signs with cartoon pictures of g@y s#x. He tried to talk to us as we walked by to get to our seats and we just ignored him. No matter what side of this particular issue you fall on, I think that we can all agree that our 8 year old children of this country should not be walking around holding signs containing cartoon p@rn. I really don't get why they can't do something about him. I live pretty close to where he is located and I have to say that I haven't heard much from him around here lately. I think people do just ignore him here so he must be branching out.

Don't judge an entire religion by these nuts.

Jesus also said that is you break *any* of the Ten Commandments, you are guilty of breaking *all* of them. So, if these people call themselves "Christian", but don't behave in a manner that is accordance with the Scriptures, doesn't that mean that by their actions they are taking the Lord's name in vain?
And if they deliberately set out to hassle people so that others physically react and then the cult sues, isn't that actually just another way of saying that they are coveting their neighbors' goods and also that they are stealing?
And doesn't that also mean that they have set up MONEY as their god, instead of God?
Gee, right off the bat I can think of at least 4 Commandments that this cult is constantly breaking...
AND, if by their fruit/works ye shall know them...ack, by any measure this cult certainly does not deserve to be known as believers in Jesus Christ.

I think the Fred Phelps cult should move to a country where homosexuals are outlawed...like Iran or Iraq.
(And by the way, what "law school" did that daughter of his actually graduate from?)

agnes!
