I am new to the board and just discovered that renting points was an option. I am in the beginning stages of planning a trip for next year. I would prefer to go in May. However, I don't think I will be able to book until February due to not being able to pay in full until then. What are the odds of being able to rent enough points for an 8 night stay in a studio 3 months out? We would prefer AKV, but I would pretty much take any stidio available at that point. Am I dreaming to even think this is a possibility? I can also go in June or July, but was hoping to avoid the crowds by going a bit earlier. What seems to be my best bet given my situation? I apologize for the certain redundancy of this post and appreciate any tips!!

To be honest, you may be able to find something and if you are flexible in the dates and resort, you have a better chance. In addition, you may find an owner who would e willing to rent you a reservation in which final payment is not due until the time frame that works for you.

Each owner sets there own terms for the rentals and payments so you just never know. Good luck!

We're staying at AKL studio villa for 9 days this December. We used Dave's and it cost us only 1500 which is about 60% off. Basically you get a deluxe for a moderate cost. At first they said they didn't have enough points but 3 weeks later they got enough and we booked. We originally wanted WL but had to grab AKL instead. Good luck. renting points is great if you can get it to work for you.

At that short notice it could be risky but you might find a renter and there might be availability especially at SSR or OKW. The points you would be renting would be distressed so you may even get a good deal on them.

The points won't necessarily be distressed. Since I am assuming the OP means next year since they mentioned paying in February. That means that an owner with an early UY or late UY could have non-distressed points available.

Distressed points are only as good as availability. Studios are the first to go, so you might not find any available at a late date.

May is not a super busy month for DVC. AKV at Kidani is a pretty big resort. I was able to book a May studio only a few months out last year. As others have said, SSR and OKW are also large resorts where your odds of getting a studio are better. I think you will be able to make this happen. Check out the Rent/Trade board as soon as you know your dates. Good luck!

Thank you all!! I think for now my game plan will be to go ahead and book a moderate in February for May and try to rent points as well. If it happens that I am able to find points, then I will cancel my reservation. If not, then at least we will already have a reservation. Good to know it could still be a possibility, though.
