Totally lost! Can you help me decide????

Hi everyone,

We have a chance to go to Disney for the first time this June. DH has a business trip, so his flight and some hotel will be paid for. My question is should we go along or will it be to overwhelming for me with him in and out for meetings? My plan (if we go) was to stay at the Poly so we would have tons to do and easy access to the parks. My kids are 3 and 8. Is it too hot to handle in June? DH says we should go for it and not pressure ourselves, just do what we can. We would be flying and would use the Disney service to and from the resort. Can you tell me what you would do if you had absolutely no Disney experience? Should I go for it???? Any tips if I do?

I should add that we almost did this a couple of years ago, but decided that the little one was just too little. Now we are out of diapers, potty trained, easier to transport, you know!

I would definitely go!! Any expenses, even part, paid by someone else is a great excuse. We are going down in June, too. Yes, it is hot, but just pace yourselves. It may be tempting to try to do everything you can since this is your first trip, but be reasonable. If you stay on property I think that is your first good decision because it is so easy to go back in the middle of the day for breaks. Use exta magic hours!! Get up early and hit some things before the heat of the day really sets in and then go back in the evening when it cools down a bit. You will have a ball. Good luck planning, that is part of the fun!

Heavens yes, go! You will have a fabulous time. I would jump on any chance to get to Disney (esp. if it would be partially paid for!).

I would recommend planning for you and the kids the things you want to do. Just carry cell phones and Dad can meet ya'll as his schedule dictates. Even if Dad was able to be with you the whole time there would still be so many things you were not able to see. Disney World is huge!!!! I can't overemphasize that point. In one trip you will probably see about 1/4 of the things to do there.

Just do what the rest of us do...consider it the first of MANY trips to the world. This trip will just be the checking out to see what you want to do next time trip with Dad.

If your husband is up for it I vote go for it!

I concur, definately go. DW had a conference at the Dolphin 2 years ago. Hotel was paid for, we just had to come up with air and park tickets. I took kids to park or swimming while DW was in meetings. We would meet up later for EMH or other activities.

Any way you can make it cheaper by getting some one else to foot the bill is definately worth it.

My kids were 3 and 5 when we went. So you are right at the perfect age.

Definately go for it! The Poly is an excellent choice...great resort, great restaurants there, super pool and monorail access for Epcot and MK so you are already off to a super start.

I recommend reading a guidebook (love the Unofficial Guide) just to give yourself a depth of knowledge about WDW. If the parks are busy/hot, just go for a swim break. You also may want to make plans w/the 8 yo when he/she will get a chance to do the bigger rides.

You will have so much fun, and as a pp said, this can be a research mission to plan your next trip!

I also vote for going! Just decide what things are an absolute must see this trip and then just do whatever else you can. I found when we went the first time (my kids were 6 & 8) we got up early and went to a park for a few hours. Around noon to 1 pm we would head back to the hotel, have lunch, swim and a rest. We'd then go back at night for a few hours. This seemed to work really well for their ages. Also, at that age they weren't interested in Epcot at all. We did a couple of things and skipped most of it. When we went back a few years later they were more into it.

We did this a few years back and only bought 1-day park passes (we went to MK as a family). We had 3 kids 10,5,4 at the time. One parent could not handle them in a theme park so we did other disney things - Disney Quest, water parks, Downtown for lunch together. Even hanging out at the pool is more fun than being home!!!

It was not as crazy as it sounds, but it is not as fun as a family disney vacation either. I would definitly do it again...so that would mean I would vote YES!!!

Definitely go...without a doubt.

Our year was kinda crazy last year because we booked an 11 day trip for April with our DDs. Well then my DHs work came to him about being at a conference at the Swan/Dolphin in May...they offered to pay for the hotel, car rental and flights for everyone as a thank you for all my DHs work...it seemed crazy, but after being there for 11 days, we went home for 3 weeks and then headed back for another 10 days. It was GREAT.

Just remember to pace yourself. Take time at the pool with the kids, go in just for a few hours and go back to the hotel...since you are the monorail line that makes it pretty easy.
