Totally lame question about thongs...

No, I don't mean underwear, I mean flip-flops ... (we called them thongs when I was little)

Anyway, can you wear these on rides or are closed-toe only allowed?

Thanks friends,

Meredith in Utah

They are allowed, but not recommended unles you're just slipping them on for a water ride.

I've worn flip flops on everything. They're no more slippery than Crocs, that's for sure! You're definitely not going to get turned away from a ride for having them on. :thumbsup2

You see hundreds of people wearing them. If that's what makes your feet happy, go for it! :)

Yes, you can wear flip flops on every ride, but if you ride Soarin', I recommend taking them off and putting them in the basket under your seat.

If Disney only allowed closed toed shoes on rides, no one would be riding them. I think the minority of people actually tour Disney in closed toed shoes. I've seen more ugly feet at Disney World to last me a lifetime.

i basicly lived in my flip flops on my last trip and didn't have any problems. i only recomend that they have some sort of arch support or your feet are going to be killing at the end of the day

That reminds me...I need to schedule a pedicure before our next trip! ;)

Oh, I'm sorry, this isn't the thread I thought it would be. I'll be moving along now...

So far as I know, the only place that requires closed toe shoes is if you go horseback riding at Fort Wilderness (long pants required as well).

I always wear flip-flops to the park.

As for this comment, this sounds more like a personal opinion and not a Disney blurb. ;)

They will ask you to leave them on the floor when you ride Soarin'. ;)

I always were flip flops, even when we have toured in early December. I plan on wearing my favorite flip flops this December also. By the way, we called flip flops thongs when I was little too.

my DD & her BFF (ages 19 & 18) both wore flip-flops through all the parks in May 2008. I tried to insist they needed to wear comfortable athletic shoes...which they did for the first 1/2 day. When we went back to the resort to swim after lunch, they changed to flip-flops and never did put the tennies back on.

Neither developed blisters. Course have to say, we live on a lake (and so does daughter's BFF) so they spend a lot of time walking barefoot on sand, so may have tougher feet than the average city-dweller:lmao:

Be careful! Don't remove all your calluses. A little bit of callus is better than a lot of blisters. (Voice of experience.) You may have had a better experience than I've had, but I learned this several trips ago. After walking about seven miles a day, my feet hated me for the lovely pedicure I'd gotten. I now go with some scruffy areas in place.

I wear flip-flops almost all the time at WDW. I rotate a pair of leather Sketchers and a pair of Fit-Flops - they both have fairly good arch supports. If it looks like rain, I take a pair of waterproof beach-type flip-flops to change into (the cheapy type from Walmart) so I don't ruin a more expensive pair.

They are allowed but probably not gonna be very comfy to stroll miles per day in while you walk around. Also, they get slippery when it rains. Just keep that in mind.

I'd go with a good pair of walking shoes.

I'm with your daughter - flip flops all the way! I remember the first time we went to WDW, and I bought this expensive pair of athletic shoes before we left and walked around in them for a few weeks to break them in. I was sure I was ready for some serious walking in WDW, well, after the second day my feet were KILLING me. I didn't know if I was going to be able to walk the parks for the other 2 days we were supposed to be there. Well, that second night my sweet husband went off-site to a Walgreens to get himself a 12 pack of Cokes and came back with a pair of $5.00 flip flops he saw hanging near the check-out. Well, that man has bought me everything from diamonds to expensive vacations, but that $5.00 pair of flips flops was one of the sweetest and best things he ever gave me. He saved my feet and the rest of our WDW vacation!
