Totally Impressed with Online Check-In

My DH and I are owners at AKV and have stayed there often. Last week, we stayed in CL at Jambo before our cruise and stayed at Kidani after our cruise. We did online check-in for both stays just like we always do.

When we arrived at Jambo, one of the cast members met us in the portico area and escorted us straight up to the CL lounge. He brought us juice, and we received our packet and were in our room in less than five minutes. (This was at about 1:30pm.) This was a completely different experience than our previous CL stay and was a great way to start our trip.

Apparently, though, this same change (with the exception of the juice) was made at Kidani as well. We were also greeted under the portico, and instead of going to the check-in desk, we were escorted over to the sitting area and given our packet. Again, we were in our room in less than five minutes, except this time it was about 11:30am.

We were totally impressed with this stay! It seems like they've finally worked out some of the kinks in their check-in process, and it really shows!

Curbside greeting doesn't have anything to do with checking in online. It is available at all deluxe resort for sure, I don't know about the others.

We have been greeted at OKW, SSR, BWV, BCV, Kidani, Jambo, Contemporary, VWL and the Yacht Club. Sometimes we check in online and sometimes we don't.

It seems to hit or miss with us on this. One trip we get it, next one we don't. I think it depends on how busy they are. We have gotten for every Club level stay.

This also happened to us on our last stay at BWV(Oct. 2011). :cloud9:

This certainly does not happen for every guest as we have never gotten this service once, even on a club level stay at Jambo earlier this year. There is nothing I hate more in a service industry than inconsistency.

Maybe I should have clarified. I was impressed with not having to stand in a long online check-in line. In our experience, the online check-in line is usually much longer than the regular check-in line. I am well aware that guests are often greeted in either the portico or lobby areas.

Just wanting to point out a positive in a sea of negative DVC threads! :goodvibes

Yes, it's definitely hit or miss. As I mentioned earlier, we stood in a long check-in line the last time we were staying in CL. When we finally got to the desk, the cast member seemed confused about the fact that AKL even had a CL. It completely threw her for a loop. (And she was not new.)

Both days that we checked, June 15 and June 23, the portico/lobby was very busy so I have to think they are giving some extra attention to the online check-in process. I am sure it definitely cut down on traffic around the front desk.

This happened to us. It was frustrating because there were things I needed to talk to the club level staff about at check in and there I was downstairs. CL is supposed to be checked in upstairs. There was information I finally got upstairs that downstairs never covered because they are clueless about CL.

As for online check in I had given up ages ago. Though during our last stay at AKL the front desk said that online is working much more smoothly now.

We like the online check in process, as well. It is nice to just show up and have all of the room cards ready to go.

As far as the curbside greeting, we have yet to experience this "magical" treatment, and we were there as recently as May, March and last Oct. The puzzling thing about this issue is that this would be so easy for them to do well with the guests arriving by DME (for example, us). They have a bar code to scan at MCO and they can probably track the location of those buses to within an millimeter! When I see other guest who arrive at the same time as us get this "magical" greeting, it makes me feel less important.

In all honesty, I really don't need the curbside greeting, but they should either figure out a way to make it happen for all resort guests, or don't do it at all.

When we've been greeted at the curb, we've always been in our car. We have heard them call ahead when we stop at the guard building at the gate.

I did on-line check in for our Kidani stay in May. I also was impressed with the process. We were greeted and asked our names and if we had done on line check in. When we said yes, we were ushered to the lobby and were told to have a seat and relax for a minute. She was back in no time with our package and key cards. I think from the time of entering and being greeted and entering our romm was 10 minutes. I realize that rooms are not awlays ready, but the actual "checking in" process was smooth.

We had been to two resorts (BWV and SSR) in November, and certainly did not have the same catered check in. (Though I can not remember if I did on line check in at that time)

We did our first online check in earlier this month at BCV. We were greeted with our packet and Key To The World cards as we stepped out of our vehicle. They said our room was ready and escorted us right to it.

Again, this was our first online check in so I don't know if this is the norm but needless to say it was a very pleasant and surprising experience.

My DW Hsvteacher wasn't with me when I was talking to the club level people upstairs. I told them that we really enjoyed the check in process better than the last one. The cast member told me they had revamped the check-in process and made some changes I asked when and they said a few months ago. Maybe it is getting better and wow, we even got a special welcome gift in our room when we arrived. :cool1:
