I posted this on my journal but thought I would post it here as well to see if anyone could give me any insight.

Augh. I am frustrated this morning. I went to go for my walk last night and they started talking about Severe Thunderstorms in my area. I didn't want to get caught in one of those so I skipped my walk, and was mad at myself the entire evening for not going to Curves. Then this morning I got up early to go to Curves and weighed myself - 170 lbs! DANG IT! Why can I not get back into the groove of any kind of diet. I just can't seem to maintain a diet, and I can't seem to shed any pounds with all the workouts I'm doing. The funny thing is that all my size 12 clothes are still fitting. At last year at 165lbs I was in a size 14. So I guess I am maintaining the inches lost just not the pounds. I don't know what to think! And if anyone can give me any insight I would appreciate it.

I don't have any extra money to spend each month to join Weight Watchers - and that never really worked for me anyway. I can't seem to follow any book right now (ATkins, South Beach) so I am just at a loss for the moment.

And the kicker is that I haven't been eating that bad. Sure I haven't been perfect but it is not like I've been eating cookies and cakes every night. Which is another thing that is frustrating - I'm eating healthy, lean protein, fruits, veggies, moderately eating potatoes, pastas, and breads. And still the weight stays on.

I'm about to cry any minute here because I just don't know what to do and I have to stop making excuses for myself. I don't want to weight 170lbs! Every year the goal gets a higher number. 5 years ago at 155 I wanted to weigh 140. Then it was 160 wanting to weight 145, then it was 165 wanting to weigh 150. I can't keep doing this.

Hi Amanda

:grouphug: I know the feeling soooooo well. Even though its hard, try not to focus too much on the number on the scale. From your post, I gather you are in better shape at 170 than you were at 165, so you have actually made progress even though the scale doesn't show it.

One thing I've learned is that you can work out faithfully and not lose weight, even gain it :sad2: It doesn't seem fair. But keep working out, that's the part that is working for you. Once you find the right food plan the extra pounds will fly off your bod. Maybe for now, try doubling your low starch vegetable intake. That should help lower the portion sizes of your higher density foods. Make sure you get adequate protein everytime you eat to help stablize your blood sugar.

Also, do you journal your food and moods? Write down every bite you eat, also make a note of how your are feeling at the time (stressed, blue, happy, anxious, etc.) that might give you some insight to where your eating too much. I do this. I also have implemented a new rule of no self deprecation. When I'm doing poorly and want to write really negative things about myself I give myself a happy face sticker or shiney heart sticker instead. It sounds so silly, but it really seems to work. Years of beating up myself didn't help.

Good luck :wizard: I hope you find the right mix for you soon and can feel happy about where you are :cloud9: .

I am right there along with you. I try not to think of being on a diet though because I am trying to get into a healthier lifestyle. I will do really well for a few days and then fall off. I can't seem to get into a routine for exercising either. I know this is something that I have got to work on. I know that you can do this and don't let it get you discouraged. Keep up with what you are doing and remember to work towards being healthy instead of on a diet and that might help you too. Hugs to you!!

Hi Amanda,

What worked for you before? Maybe going back and trying that. I know you can't afford to go to WW's, but I'd certainly be willing to give you all the info and support you needed for Weight Watchers if you wanted to give that a try. WW really works for me and I like it because I know when I must stop eating in order to loose weight. The flex points plan they came out with a while ago has really been the best ever. It really is flexible.

For me its all about Journaling- This is the most important key. Writing everything down that goes into my mouth.

Also very important,
Exercise, portion control -weighing my portions, drinking water, eating plenty of veggies & fruit, making my snacks fulfill a nutritional requirement, bringing snacks with me when I go out, planning ahead for events.

Good luck, I know you can do this!

Hi Melanie,
Low carb has worked really well for me in the past - however I find that I am unable to maintain a low carb diet for more then 2 weeks. I get extremely bored and I start to get frustrated about not being able to make a simple sandwich. It works great for me because I do think my blood sugar is crazy. Plus I miss fruits, and the occasional pasta.

Maybe I can give WW another try - let me think about it. Thank you for your offer to give me all the info.

Thanks,
Amanda

((((Amanda))))

maybe this is the turning point you need and have been waiting for all along ---

please don't settle - you are so very worth ALL that you want for yourself and more.

I wish I had the magic plan, the pill to pop, the no-fail course of action; but I sit here 8 lbs regained from my goal weight, clothes not fitting well and feeling fluffy and yucky. I guess we have to take it day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute. You will get through this you are a WISHer!!!

you know the plan that works for you, hang in there. The weight will come off, it may WHOOSH after several days or a week of being very much on plan and not seeing results. If you are wearing a smaller size than you have before at that weight you are STRONGER -- and just having muscle increases your metabolism. this is a very very good thing!

when you are READY to do this for YOURSELF -- you will. you have been successful in the past - stop doubting yourself! YOU CAN DO THIS! it's ok if this isn't the time, really it's OK! when the time is right you will be able to do it!

Amanda ~

I feel your pain. I spend some mornings (yesterday) crying because nothing from last summer fits me. I weigh 175 right now and am in a baggy 14. I have three pairs of pants and a few shirts. Even my old shirts are too big because my arms are so loose. I did weight watchers for a few weeks but then I have been traveling for two weeks straight for work and eating out. Gained it back...

I have the FIRM, it worked last year but I can't get into it now. I have a gym membership but can't get into it, haven't been at all.

So I feel your pain and you aren't alone. It just comes to getting up and doing it.

Hi Amanda - I'm sorry your having such a tough time of it... we all know how frustrating it can be losing weight. You just need to find that right "thing" that works for you, whatever it may be. Are you drinking your water?

I know WW can be expensive, I told my daughter that I probably have spent close to $300 in the 10 months since I joined. For me, it was well worth it, but I know not everyone can afford that much money.

Maybe you can try the program again without actually "joining". There are plenty of us that are doing it that can give you the basics and then you just go with it. I'm actually considering switching to Core to help get me in to day to day eating instead of the WW meals.

This is a tough time, but you are still doing so well. Just keep it up and you'll get through this "hump" your in and it'll start coming off again.

Hang in there :sunny:

I think it must be a bad week. Everyone I spoke with today was having a hard time. I want to be where you are in size 12s! I'm still in my 14s at 168 & don't expect to get into my 12s for at least 8 more lbs. You're doing something right that those 12s are still fitting you. You must be in better shape than you were last year. The hard part is doing this just one day at a time! Hang in there!

Thank you to everyone for your support. And many of you are right, I know what worked before I just have to make the commitment to do it again. Which for some reason has been really hard for me.

I have to say...WW is what's working for me. I just hit 180 - after losing over 70 pounds. So to me, 170 sounds great!

You say you can't seem to follow a diet. Yes, you can. YOU are the one who gets to decide how strong you are. This is not predetermined for you. I know it may seem like that, but it's not true.

This will sound bad--but if you think WW will work but can't afford it--try going to the 1st meeting and paying for that so you have the supplies. If it is working for you after a couple of weeks and you think you can afford it, then start attending the meetings. You don't sign a contract--but should you later decide to attend the meetings (I believe within 1 month) then you back pay the missed meetings--if you wait longer, you will have to reregister and pay the registration fee.

At least you can test drive it to see if it will work :).

I wish I could offer you some advice. The only thing that works for me is being a runner. The appetite and the diet thing just cannot seem to line up for me anymore.

Good luck!
