Totally confused about FP+

My original vacation plan started with 4 days at Universal followed by 7 days at Disney. Traveling in July. We figured we would just do a resort stay at Disney since we would be touring Universal. We decided to drop Universal because I think the crowds will be crazy with the new area of HP opening. Now we decided to add park tickets to Disney. My questions are, on MDE there are no magic bands listed, just cards. I have not purchased our tickets yet, does that have something to do with it? When I get my tickets I need to link them prior to getting bands? How far before my trip do I need to do this?

1- That's normal this far before your trip dates.
2- You do need to purchase tickets.
3- Having tickets (or not) does not affect getting a MagicBand.
MagicBands are related to staying at a WDW resort.
4- Well, sorta. You do not HAVE to do that, but to make ADVANCE FP+ reservations,'
you want to do so.
5- The earliest that you can book FP+ is 60 days before check-in,
but you can order tickets (specify "Will Call" pick-up at WDW) any time
before that.
When you make your room reservations at a WDW resort, at some point
you will be asked to "customize" your MagicBands.
