If I rent a car for 5 days from 12/21 thru 12/26 the overall cost is $550 or $110/day. But I rented from Alamo from 12/21 thru 12/24 at $35/day and National for $45/day for 12/24 thru 12/26 for about $200 total. All I have to do is drop the Alamo car off at the Dolphin in the Morning and then pick up the National car at the CCC in the afternoon.

Thats about a $350 savings.

I'm not complaining, mind you :rotfl: but can anyone explain :confused3

Um, you would drive yourself nuts trying to figure out rental car companies policy. Do like we all do here look for the best deal and go for it. Don't think too much

Do you have an AMEX card? You could save yourself some real money if you do. You could get an Intermediate for your 5 days for a little over $100.

Where did you find $35 and $45 daily rates. All I see is over $100 daily rates for intermediate with National. (half that with contract id 5760339)

What coupon/rate code are you using for that rate? I do not see it.

Try this with National: contract id 5760339 and coupon ND41 gives rate for those days of $334.80 with tax.

The $45 rate was thru AAA and I did this back in July. I got the Alamo $35 rate yesterday on Orbitz. Alamo was the only car company that came up at $35 while all the others came up over $110 per day.

I must be doing something wrong. I still get $546. when I plug in the code.
Tried it again put the code in a different box and got a $100.87 (Thats like $20 a day  )tax included rate for the five day period. Confirmed and booked. This just saved me over $130

THANK YOU....THANK YOU....THANK YOU....
:disrocks:

BTW - Does anyone know what they mean with the term "Time and Distance" under the base rate?

Here is where I received a good deal for our 10 day vacation:

http://www.mousesavers.com/national.html

All of the car rental agencies have discounts here.

I rented an SUV for 10 days for 361, which includes the gas option which was $75. Base rate for 236. Taxes make up the difference.

Thank you, thank you!

We leave Thursday (12/14-12/23), and I've been holding a Thrifty reservation at $237 for months. This National rate gave me one for $218. Woo hoo!!!! Another souvenir for me! :woohoo:

AMEX Code (from Mousesavers): 5125601
Note: You must have an AMEX card with you when you rent, but it's not clear that you need to use it.

Hi,

I am leaving on the 31st of Dec. and coming back on Jan. 15 but I need a van because we are 6 people. Can you tell me what is Amex code is, because we have an Amex card. I am paying over 1,000 for a van and I wonder if I can get a better price. Because it says if your company has a contract, please enter the ID number. Am I going to be asked for proof of something when I arrive at the counter. Thanks for your help.

We're going 1/13 thru 1/20 also with a minivan from National and the best I've done so far is $324.75. That's using our EC membership, and two coupons, the one for $40 from National website, and also the one from National website/AMEX for $10 off and a $25 AMEX gas card by mail later, so really final cost comes down to $299.75. The National website is touchy so I had to put one coupon in, book it, then go in and modify the ressie to get the website to accept the second coupon. Now, if I try to check the ressie online their system won't let me in to check it. The message I get is "Mulltiple coupons not accepted on website". But, I called customer service and they assured me the ressie is there at the price I'm showing ($324.75) and they do accept multiple coupons but the website is not set up to accept them and I won't have any problems when I pick the vehicle up. So, hopefully not........

New Year's Eve is messing you up. I would recommend that you rent a car one-way from National or Alamo from the airport to the Swan/Dolphin or the Car Care Center. Then, rent a car from Alamo starting on 1/1.

Use the contract code from here:
http://www.vacationoutlet.com/car/default.asp

And the $40 printable coupon from here:
http://www.alamo.com/index.do?action=/hotDealsTemplate&msg=alamo_40off_ecoupon

You'll get your minivan for $520.00 including taxes for your two weeks.

But I am going to Coronado Springs and the next day to Old Key West, where exactly is the Swan and Dolphin or the car centre (but what I can do is take the Magical Express, get to my resort and then rent a car for the next day, right. Do I have to reserve for the Magical Express. How do I do that. But you are right, it is the 31st that is messing me up, I checked the price for the 1st instead and wow, what a difference, thank you so much, you made my day.
