Just wondering from those who have been. I and my nephew are totally ride chickens. Will we be able to muster the courage for any of the harry potter rides or should we plan on using the chicken exit? To put it in perspective I thought Goofys barnstormer was intense and he wouldn't even ride that! Thanks

I would use the chicken exits. Flight of the Hippogriff is at the same level as the Barnstormer. The other two rides (Forbidden Journey and Dueling Dragons) are quite intense and really can't be compared to Hippogriff or Barnstormer which are essentially kiddie rides. Make sure you go through lines though to see all the details, especially the castle. Don't worry, there is tons of great atmosphere to soak in even if you don't ride anything. :thumbsup2

Is it roller coasters you are scared of? I hate that hollow feeling in my belly on the drops in roller coasters. Even Barnstormer! But FJ isn't a roller coaster, it is a simulator. Think Star Tours with your own seat. Now- the seat will lean back in parts so that you are completely on your back. BUT, I don't get that feeling in my stomach.

However, there are things that pop out at you and the attraction is very dark in places. If that will scare you then you might want to skip it. But if it is just a roller coaster thing you should try it! It is hard to describe FJ because it is so different.

The other 2 attractions in WWOHP you can see the track and make your own choice.

I have a question and I mean absolutely no disrespect to anyone but I always wonder why people go to theme parks if they don't like rides?:confused3 I know for me personally if my family didn't enjoy rides or were afraid I would never spend the money to go to the parks. The tickets are waaay to expensive to just walk around all day and enjoy the atmosphere or a few shows. Again this is just a question please be kind.....;)

Same here, but I found if I tighten my stomach it doesn't feel as bad. It gets me down the fall, then I find most of the rest of a coaster is "positive Gs", like a loop, which doesn't have that falling sensation. I just tried it in September and I'm now a reformed coaster chicken, with Hulk and both dragons under my belt.

Honestly, since Hulk is launched up rather than dropped down, you don't feel negative Gs much at all. It was much easier than I expected. Also, the loops are larger which means changes are more gradual than the tighter loops on the dragons.

My final opinion is that Hulk is indeed easier for someone who hates that sinking feeling.

I totally understand- but it isn't all about roller coasters. There are lots of other things I really enjoy at the parks.

And one other note: it isn't that I am scared to ride. Some attractions make me ill. No matter how much I paid it isn't worth being sick. I'm there to have fun even though my definition of fun may be different. (and I really do just go and walk around some days - but that is the luxury of being local)

Mummy was too much for me - I am thinking Hulk has to be worse!! :lmao:

I understand the getting sick from some rides because I too get a little sick from simulators:sick: Our first time to WDW and Seaworld Star Tours and Wild Artic killed me, on both I got all sweaty and felt I would hurl. Now I take Dramamine before and it seems to help, but this will be our first time at Universal and it seems there are alot of simulator rides so we'll see how it goes.

Ha ha! And I love simulators!! Just goes to show we all like different things. I could ride Mission Space all day long. My DH would die! :lmao:

Here are the rides that might bother you:

IOA:
Spiderman (vehicles move between screens)
FJ

US:
Jimmy Neutron
Simpsons

Thanks for the tip! I didn't even dare try Mission Space since I could barely handle Star Tours. I really like the simulators I think it's cool but my head and stomach, not so much:(

For the rides question..I go because I want to take my family and love seeing thier faces when they get off the rides, etc.... I will ride some rides but not the faster coasters that flip.

Thanks for the tips on the UA coasters!

Just an observation.. it seems like there are very few people that can ride simulators and coasters. It seems like folks fall into one bunch or the other. It sounds like the OP is a simulator person which would mean FJ would be fine for them.

Well - why would you go if you weren't going to ride the rides?? :rotfl::lmao::upsidedow:rotfl2:

Ha ha very funny! I was actually referring to people or familes in which no one rides anything, I have heard people and seen posts about not riding anything. I don't like simulators but with proper medication I try them at least once. When my girls are a little nervous about a ride (which they almost never are) I tell them to at least try it, if they hate it they don't have to do it again. As for FJ, I am going on that ride! But maybe I'll wait till the end of the day incase it doesn't agree with me:sick:

Just make sure you try Butterbeer after you ride! ;)

you will probably take chicken exit at FJ. Hippogriff and dueling dragons are outdoor coasters so you can see if you want to skip or try. (I would guess skip). But don't miss the large hippogriff at the front of the ride. It's a good photo op and you can hear Hagrid's voice. Very cool for potter fans.

Try riding spiderman before going to potterland. If you can handle spiderman without getting sick or too scared then FJ is worth a try. It is in the dark and has more intense motion but it doesn't have huge drops or spinning. If you do try FJ I suggest getting a middle seat. The effects are less intense.

Things you can do in potterland with no fear/sickness:
castle walk through before FJ (this is one of the best lines ever) bring a camera with you
Ollivader's wand shop show...pretty fun and seems authentic
Honeyduke's/owl post/shopping
butterbeer
eat at 3 broomsticks

Go and have a magical time!!!:wizard:

:thumbsup2 Wanted to add that you can also watch the Frog Choir and the Durmstrang/ Beauxbaton academy tri-wizard rally. They're cute shows that are worth seeing once if you are Potter fans.

I did try FJ and Dueling Dragons one time each, but they are really not my kind of ride. I rode Hippogriff a bunch of times with DD7, but again it's not my kind of ride. Even though I personally didn't really care for any of the rides in WWOHP, I absolutely loved it! So, you don't necessarily have to go on any of the rides to appreciate it.
