Hello everyone,

Yesterday, My MIL was diagnosed with cancer. :guilty: :guilty: We were planning a trip to WDW in August (a yearly occurance) but now we may be spending the summer in the UK with my in-laws, depending on my mil's condition and how she recovers from surgery...

So I'm looking at DLP now as an alternative. Everything is very tentative and also complicated by the fact that I'm expecting our second child at the beginning of July...not sure how soon after that we'll be able to fly, it depends how the baby settles and so forth.

My question is, is there a better/alternate place to book packages than through the DLP web site? Are there deals that come available? We'll be staying in the Peak District near Manchester...should we drive, take the Eurostar or fly? And how many days are good to stay at DLP? We usually stay 8 or 9 days at WDW but this looks a LOT more expensive and not as much to do so I'm thinking 4 days or so.

I've looked at some of the FAQ sites and the hotel threads - I think we'll go with the Newport. Swimming is a big deal for us and that pool looks good.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks... pixiedust:

Beth

Hi Beth, so sorry to hear about your MIL. :grouphug:

Booking with DLP direct is usually the cheapest way. There are often deals like an extra night free on selected dates each month (excluding August). Details should be on their website, sometimes they have other discounted deals on there.

You would probably be better to fly rather than taking the Eurostar as this would mean you having to travel down to London or were you thinking of visiting there anyway? I'm the wrong end of the country to advise you on flights from Manchester but sure someone else will soon be along who can. :)

Hi Beth. Sorry to hear about your MIL.

Personally I think that four ore five days are enough to see DLRP, but think about yourself.
A little baby and a mommy that’s exhausted walking trough the park is not ideal.
You are afraid that is cost a lot but the food is munch cheaper than in WDW.
The break firs is included and the rest of the prices are n a normal every day base.
If you buy the vouchers of 28 euro previously the most costs for the diner are paid.
NPB is a lovely hotel and in walking distance to both of the parks .
The swimming there is great.
Take care.

BA and Airfrance fly from Manchester, DL direct use Airfrance and we have used them twice before..both have now started doing cheap flights however If you want cheaper flights you could consider Liverpool. The flight takes about 1 hour.

Hi Beth,

I am very sorry to hear abou teh cancer, and I hope she recovers fast!!

Now, for DLP, I think 3 days are enough, but we never spend any time at the hotel. So, if you plan to swim a lot, and if it's your first time (and a little baby with you), 4 or even 5 days would be a lot better!
IMO, DLP is a worthy alternative for WDW, though it's a lot smaller. I have never booked through the DLP-website (always through the travel agent) but the promotions and prices are always the same! Right now, they have some promotions going on for 2 nights/ 3 days + 1night/day free, or 15% discount.

Can't help you with the transport though.

Hi we have just flown with BA from manchester to CDG for a very reasonable price and it took just one hour and we stayed at the Newport. My four year old loved the pool although it doesnt have any slides or anything in it but it is a good size. We went for three days and it wasnt enough, 4 or 5 days is much better. There are cheaper ways of doing food once you are there, you dont have to be booking three course meals all the time. and the breakfast at the newport was fantastic, we thought.
how are you thinking of getting from the peak district to manchester aiport as you'll have to take that into account too for travelling time and extra costs etc. hope this helps. we boked or package seperately, ie: booked acomodation and tickets with disney direct and booked our flights direct with BA online.

If you want an early flight to get the most out of your first day there are plenty of hotels in the manchester airport area (premiar travel inn, Travel, lodges, holiday Inn etc.) so you could drive down the night before.
Airfrance has a flight at 6.30am and 9.10am so you would arrive at DLP for lunch. I think BA have similar times maybe a bit earlier.
If you book with DLP then transfers are Included.

We booked via bmibaby, and our flight out was £15 plus taxes and coming back was £25 plus taxes, this is going around the bank holiday which i think it is a great price. and extra plus is we leave 725am arriving at 10 giving us the whole day to enjoy the park.

We have never been to DLP and are staying 4 nights, hopefully it is the right length of time.

I have found the brochure prices quite high.

out of interest where are you flying from?

We are flying from teeside (durham tees valley) is the full name lol.

We have to travel to this as Newcastle do not fly until 4ish and it is a waste of the day.

Just price parking around £24ish, which is not bad either.

thats is a good price and good flight times as well:)
we fly from manchester as it only a few minutes and there is no flights at that price.

Thanks so much for all the replies!!! :)

Getting to Manchester airport is not a problem; we can get a lift with our family. It's only about half an hour from where they live in the Highpeak. I can't believe you flew for 15 quid! That is very encouraging.

Thanks again for all the well wishes and help! I'll be following this forum now at least while everythign is up in the air. :) :grouphug:

Hi I don't think you will get flights from Manchester to CDG for£15 As only BA and Air France fly to CDG from man. If you won't the cheaper flights you could try Liverpool or Leeds/Bradford as they have low cost airlines.

however if you book early and are flexible with your flight times you can still get a good price. As Air France do have flights for around £40 one way

, however the more popular flight times, i.e the early outbound and late inbound can be over £90 one way.
BA sometimes do flights to CDG for £49 each way.

Thanks! Whereabouts in Cheshire are you? My inlaws are on the border of cheshire and derbyshire, just inside Derbyshire. We spend a lot of time at Stockport when we're there. .. and the Trafford Centre, of course - My Favourite! :)

Beth

Hi I live near Wilmslow which is south of manchester, less than 10 minutes from the airport. I love the trafford centre, its one of my favourite places, I go every week.

we go for drives a lot in Derbyshire to a place called edale ( you may know it).

our flights with BA from manchester were £42.00 each way inclusive of all taxes and charges. that was in april this year.
