Has anyone had experience with Total Home? I guess it is a furniture, kitchen cabinet and bathroom membership store? What's the deal with not being able to go without your spouse? I need 2 full rooms of furniture, but can't get DH to take time off to view their stuff. Do they have show rooms?

Thanks in advance..... L

Sounds like some kind of "shareholder/membership" gimmick to me. Don't do it. What if you didn't have a spouse but had plenty of money???

Why don't you just go to Pier One or a regular furniture store?

Sounds suspicious. Why would you be forced to bring your spouse?

That's my point! Why do you have to bring your spouse? Do they consider your time to be less valuable than theirs? I usually breeze through the stores and when I find something that I like, I discuss it with my husband. If he wants to see it, we go together and buy it.

They sent a flyer of furniture which is at a fraction of what Ethan Allen would charge.

There are so many furniture places to go to in CT and North Carolina. Which one has great quality and even greater prices?

Seamans vs Levitz, Hoffman Koos vs Ethan Allen, Hitchcock, Sharon??? How do you know you are getting a good deal?

You piqued my curiosity, so I found the Total Home website at www.ucconline.com. It looks like a classic MLM scheme- vague information, membership fees not disclosed online, appointment-only "showrooms", and an emphasis on purchasing a franchise.

More searches found complaints and various forum threads that supported this suspicion. Some messages say that the showrooms are only catalogs. One sample post:
Don't waste your time. Membership is $2970.00. My other half dragged my sceptical person along for their suckers only presentation, which was suppose to include a free vacation just for listening to their seminar. Also, you will pay 6 to 8 percent handling fee, and shipping charges on all your purchases. What really killed me was when I asked to see a specific catalog to compare their prices to what I know I could get the identical jaccuzzi tub for at the Sears Great Indoors. They said only paid members could see their price. That was enough for me, and their salesman too I guess, because he said I was asking too many questions! Just don't do it. If they could honestly save you money then they should be happy to let you see, in advance of a costly membership fee, the bottom line. Shop around, the internet is a wonderful tool for comparison shopping. UCC is a very expensive rip off.

Try a web search on UCC Total Home for more information.

VERY caveat emptor.

Wow. $2600 to join! That's alot of money. The item I want to purchase (sofa) is $2400. So, I would have to spend $5000 for a $2400 sofa, with the potential to save/spend more....

Not worth my time and energy!

Thank you for posting this information. If any one had other experiences, please post.
