ToT - Is it really scary?

I think a lot has to do with what "gets you". I do well with drops, ok with loops and not well at all with spinning. Quite logically, I have no problems with ToT, I do pretty good on RnR and the Teacups are my worst nightmare. I don't even want to think about Mission Space.

For me the feeling on ToT is similar to what you experience on the first drop of a big wooden roller coaster. If that really gets you, ToT might be an issue. If that sensation is ok for you, I would definately give it a try.

I am exactly the same as you, i chickened out of mission space in an instant, but i went on tower of terror when i was 12, and never looked back. It was great! the theming is excellent, and the ride is great. I went on it recently, and found it less scarry than i remebered it, but as soon as you take your hands of the handles, it becoemes a different ride, so much better and you really feel the forces. For a first time rider, the suspense is greater than the thrill of the ride, hold onto the handles tight, and you wont feel a big a woosh, since you will stay in your seat. For a real good ride, raise your arms, even just for one drop is so much more fun!

Isn't that funny how people are different. While I can't tolerate big drops, I could go on spinning rides all day and be just fine.

I can do spinning all day also. Big drops kill me though. My DH is the opposite and couldn't stand M:S. I did ToT twice. I dreaded it both times. I hate dropping and I was scared the whole time. It didn't make me sick or anything, but it's just not my idea of fun.

I HATE drops and go on Splash Mountain under duress. While everybody's oohing and aahing over the cute rabbits and foxes I'm having a heart attack in anticipation of the drop, so ToT has not been on my list of things to do. My DH and DS keep trying to get me to go on so last year I gave in. I tried valiantly to on. Got on line, made it up to the door of the elevator and ran faster than I've ever run in my life. The people on line thought I was crazy. The way I look at it, my life is not going to come to an end if I don't ride ToT. Then again, my life won't come to an end if I ride ToT either. Maybe I'll try again this year, if I'm heavily medicated! :teeth:

It's really not that bad.I think what scares you more is the UNKOWN. You go in and go through the room in your seat listening to the story and watching the holograms

What?? Holograms????? You mean - those aren't the ghosts of the missing Guests??? :sad1:

quiet just before the first drop and it is at that time I go limp and let the force of being pushed down create that weightless feeling.

thats my fave part of TOT...its not the same though since they replaced the lap bars w/ seat belts :guilty:

I went for a graduation trip in '02 and that week was horribly rainy...no thunder or lighting just rain..MGM was EMPTY I swear I must have rode TOT like 10 times in a row! I love the ride and the feeling you get from it!

It's a great ride. Go and have fun. The first time is the worst since it is the unknown.

We went on it years ago, and we all enjoyed the theming, but not the drops! Maybe now that they have seatbelts, we'd feel more secure and be willing to try it again. Does anyone know if the seatbelts can be tightened snugly? I think it's worth the ride at least once for the theming. :flower:

I love ToT, but I had to have DH assure me that nothing was going to touch me. I love roller coasters, but I have a tough time with the 4-D movies, knowing that something will actually touch me, even if it is fake.

I will even go on ToT alone if no one will go along.

ToT is THE most fabulous ride EVER! Just relax and enjoy the ride!!!!

Thank you all so much for you experience and encouragement. I think I will give it a try. :bounce: There is still the possibility that I will get there, stare up at the Tower and chicken out. :rotfl: And, of course, there is the whole running away when you get to the elevator option. :goodvibes

I absolutely looooved this ride!!!! My DS6 was pretty scared though. I was too until the first drop, I loved the feeling. I think it helped that the drops are in the dark so you can't see the ground rushing up at you--I am terrified of heights. Have a great time :goodvibes .

I was a big chicken until this year. Ever since I met my DH he has made me ride rides because he insisted I would love them....after 15 years of marriage I finally do. :cheer2: But even in my big chicken days...I rode TOT. It scared me but I think the anticipation of what was to come made it worse than the actual ride. It is really neat on the inside and worth a least a try. As far a dropping rides go it is very mild. And if you dont like it you can always do what my DS did when he rode for the first time(he was 10) we bought all 3 kids tee shirts that said I survived the Tot and moved on. Incidentally my DS who is now 12 is going to ride it again....so it cant be too bad. Good luck to you and whatever you decide at "go time" be happy. Dont let that ruin your trip or let anyone make you feel bad, after all you are the one and only one who knows how you feel.

I'm in my upper 50's and thought it was fabulous. I love the feeling of coming off the seat a little bit before that belt pulls you back. Now my husband (same age) was terrified and was hanging on to me as he was shaking. My son (17) and nephew (16) enjoyed it but said it was scary. So I guess it all depends on the person. I'd say give it one try at least. Then you can either give it up as a bad experience or put it on your to be repeated list. :earseek: :earsboy: :earsgirl: :cool1:

Well, no first hand knowledge, of course, ( :rotfl: ) but after watching the Travel Channel show on behind the scenes and they showed how they do TOT, I'm all ready!!!

:wizard: Come on OCT!! :maleficen
