ToT - how scary?

I will NEVER ride ToT again. EVER.

I said this after riding ToT in the mid 90s and being traumatized by it. I continued saying this for years and years. Then last year at DL I allowed myself to be talked into riding it again by my friend who is obsessed with all versions of this ride. I screamed throughout the entire drop portion of the ride. Then I rode it again twice during the rest of our trip :).

I don't know why, but this is the one ride that just seems to freak me out. My DD (6) is so excited to do it, and I told her I'd do it with her. Which I will, but I am so scared! It's the drop that scares me, and it seems to be pretty dark in there.

I watched a YouTube video, and it's hard to tell what exactly Is happening because it's dark. Can someone please ease my anxiety a bit? Other rides don't freak me out at all, I can do roller coasters, etc. with no problem.

So, how scary (or not?) is it, is it completely dark or can you see something, even a little bit, at all times?

It's a little scary, but you will be fine! It's a super fun ride. My dd first rode at age 4 and during the ride she asked me if she'd still be alive by the end of it!

It's only a lap seat belt. Not that intense of a ride if it doesn't have an automatic lap bar and shoulder harness...

agree - tea cups is the most sickening ride around

So. Much. This. The tea cups is the only ride at Disney World I flat out refuse to go on. Well, Primeval Whirl at AK and Mission Space look a little iffy too but I haven't been on either of those and really want to try at least Mission Space. DD9 keeps trying to talk me into taking her on the tea cups. Only if she wants to wear my lunch.

Actually, back in the day, they did have lap bars that went across the whole row. I suspect they changed it because the individual seatbelts can be adjusted better. I remember as a kid I would be sitting next to my dad and my butt would come off the seat several inches because the lap bar wasn't holding me in securely whereas on the last trip the seatbelt held me in much better.

Of course, I weigh quite a bit more now than I did in 8th grade......

It's different every time. Ours were 5 top to "bottom" drops. It was HORRIBLE! I will never get on again. My oldest loved everything at Disney and asked to get off before we even got to the drops. After it dropped he was DONE! So was I.

I wanted to do it as it's an iconic Disney ride and I'm honestly glad I did. But that ride was horrible. lol

I don't think I've help you at all.

:dance3:It's about as scary as sitting on a whoopie cushion (and not knowing it).

There is an exception to my never. My oldest scared my middle so badly he says he'll never do it. BUT if he ever wants to I will ride with him, because he's my baby and if he's willing to try I'll do it for him. Same for the youngest. Please please don't let them ever want to get on this ride. Please in the name of all that's good in the world.

I used to ride it all the time and loved it, however some fear has clicked inside of me and I can't ride it anymore. I don't have a fear of heights, but maybe it's a fear of being dropped and something going wrong. I don't know what it is. And it saddens me because it's one of the best themed rides on property. And they don't always open the doors before dropping you. I have been dropped in the dark before.

When DS was 6 he absolutely wanted to ride ToT at DLR and none of the rest of us wanted to ride it.......we stood outside watching the doors open and people screaming for what seemed like hours lol. Then DW decided she would take the plunge:P and go on with him.....they loved it and now it is one of our favorite rides!!

It looks scarier than it actually is?

Just hang on and enjoy the ride.

ToT is my absolute favorite ride! It IS very random though....I've been on it where it was 3 big drops, 4 of varying height and 5 medium drops. So you never know how each ride will be and I like that.....I've gotten on it 8 times in a row and it was awesome!

8 times?!?!?!?! *passes out* lol

I haven't been on it so I asked my dd who went on it on our last visit when she was 16. She said she will not go on it again, she said it was too many "stomach drops". She also does not like Space Mountain but she loves all the rest, Splash Mt, Everest, etc (only one she has not been on is R 'n R Coaster).

It's my absolute favorite ride in all of Disney. I love the feeling right before you drop. You can feel the track below you change, or lack of track I guess you could say. You go from the air conditioned indoor portion to feeling the heat and humidity of the outdoors. The anticipation. Love the feeling of being lifted out of your seat.

All that being said, I would never get on an outdoor version with my feet dangling.

Wait seriously?! Okay, that is sooooo not cool. Now I'll have another thing to be freaking out about the next time DH drags me on....

The first time I rode it after they turned the drop sequences to completely random and computerized in 2003, they dropped us right after "Rod Serling" said "You've just entered the Twilight Zone" while still in the dark! At the time, I loved it! I looked at my now ex afterwards and he was white as a sheet. I said, "That was awesome!" But since they took the lap bars out and have you with the seat belts where your butt comes off the seat, I just can't do it!

We just got back and I rode it for the first time. Every other time we've gone to Disney, I've either been pregnant or had a small child so I didn't ride. This time it was just DH and I. I made a deal with myself that I would ride every "thrill" ride. I loved all of them (space, splash, EE, rockin rc, etc) except ToT. Maybe I didn't do my seatbelt up enough, but I lifted off the seat during the drops which was too much for me.

I am glad I did it though. I definitely say try it once. :)

You all are making me almost want to try the ride..I love the twilight zone and want to see the theming, I wish there was a baby version where they gently lower you down lol. I would have been ok wiht this when I was younger but drops bother me now....wonder why? I am fine with spinning. I've only done space mountain and that was fine but I have no desire to go again!
