Before we went to Hollywood Studios I showed my then 6 year old niece several you tube videos of the ride. I love the ride, but I didn't want to push her on something she would be scared of. The you tube videos did not scare her, she really wanted to go on the ride. I told her if at any time in the line we could turn around and exit, but going the the hotel with the creepy music and cobwebs she was fine. In the library with the TV show and the lights going out, no problem. Into the creepy basement through all the boilers, no worries. She was so excited to go on the ride I was thinking okay this will be great. Through the first part of the ride, which she had seen on you tube she was fine laughing even pointing out the ghost family. Then we entered the shaft where it goes pitch black as the ride capsule locks into place for the series of drops, She FREAKED OUT. Crumbled up into a ball and was still terrified after the ride had ended. Her mom and I bought her a lollipop to calm her down, but it probably took her a good half and hour to calm down. I think the issue was that during the drop portion of the ride, you can't see it in the you tube video and her 6 year old mind could not comprehend what the drop was. Make sure you daughter knows that it is a 13 story drop straight down in the dark, and then they lift you up and do it all over again several times. As an adult, see if you can sit in the back row, as it seems less scary when there are people in front of you, then in the front row.
