ToT Chicken Exit?

Hi everyone!

Can someone please describe the "chicken exit" procedure on ToT? My DS9 really wants to ride ToT on our next visit. We have never gone on ToT and there is absolutely no way I'm going on the ride, LOL! We've done the chicken exit at Space Mountain and EE (which I ALSO will NOT ride!) and it's super simple - I walk through the line with him, let the ride loading CM know he is riding solo, they put him in a line and I either go to the Space Mountain ride unloading area or the EE gift shop. Is ToT as simple? I would just like to know the loading procedure and closest exit meeting area before we attempt to do this. Thank you so much!

I dont know if this is the actual chicken exit or not, but last time I was there, I saw someone standing alongside a CM as the rest of her party went into the elevator. I went into the elevator too so not sure where that person was led after the doors closed.

Yes, there is a chicken exit. You can exit at the point where they are loading onto the elevators. The good thing is you can enjoy the queue and pre-show. I'm not sure what happens when you exit. My mom exited and met us at the exit.

The chicken exit is a REAL elevator that is located between the two ride elevator sections. It's labeled the "express elevator". You can walk with him all the way through the queue until they ask him to stand on the number associated with his row.

The Chicken Exit for ToT does involve an elevator, but it's not that elevator. I've heard the CMs will have fun with those using it.

OMG I could only imagine. If i didnt want to ride but still had to get in an elevator, I would likely freak out. LOL.

ToT is my all time favorite Disney ride but I absolutely despise elevators. The "chicken exit" would be way worse for me than the ride :rotfl2:

I have taken it. It is just an ordinary elevator, just like anywhere. It lets you out near the spot where you order pictures, and there is a bench to sit and wait.

Yep it's a regular elevator that lets you out where the regular ride exits. There are benches so it's a convenient place to wait. I love sitting there and watching people exit. Some folks laughing, some crying, some sick.

The difference of course is that you stand up in the normal elevator, vs sitting and having a seat belt for the ride. :)

Yes my niece (6 at the time) thought we were playing a trick on her, because we did the child swap thing and she was about to have a meltdown with Gdaddy was taking her on an elevator. Funny now but not so for her at the time.

Yep, when the rest of your party gets on THE elevator. You get on a regular one and then you can sit and wait on benches near the picture area before you get to the gift shop. When I was pregnant, I went through the lines with DH but took the chicken exits of course.

as others have said you will get in express elevator with a CM in character and meet up near ride exit

Be careful to get in the elevator that doesn't have seats.

My BFF got tricked by the CMs into riding the non-chicken exit elevator. She asked them why she had a seat with a seat belt on a regular elevator. They told her it was part of the theming, and the next thing she knew, she was dropping down the tower. She got so scared that she said her legs felt weak the rest of the day like they were made of jello.

Those CMs can be tricky. My brother has a goofy sense of sense and was joking around with them, so they put him in what is known as the "seatbelt seat." It is a single seat in the middle of the car that doesn't have any handles for you to hold onto.

You will be lead to the exit area right after the guests come off the elevators. If you want, you can go through the gift shop before they board, walk to where the guests enter the gift shop, continue walking and you'll see where you will be. It's very simple. When I couldn't ride this for a few years, I always did the alternative exit because you get to see the preshow and the boiler room and then you get to sit and wait and watch the other guests exit. There was one time I was sitting there and a group on just about teenage girls came off and I thought "I'm sure they hated that" but they erupted into laughs and high fives and started yelling "we're going on it again!". And on the next elevator were three adult guys and pretty macho looking. One looked over at the other two and said "that was enough for me, never again" and the other two said "totally agree!". I had to turn away so they wouldn't see me laughing my butt off.

I truly hope this didn't really happen.

Omg, this sounds awful! LOL! At least now I know to get on the elevator WITHOUT seat belts - thank you! I REALLY wish DS9 would change his mind on this one, but he's been asking to go on ToT for about a year and a half and he's done 3 other rides alone so I feel like I should let him do it. At least I'll finally see the queue and the pre-show. I have been to WDW at least 35 times and I've never been any where NEAR the interior of this building. Ugh, just the thought of going in there makes me nauseous! Thanks again for everyone's help!

I am not a hug fan of ToT, and was so happy when DGD didn't want to ride it, but now older and she loves it. Let me say, the one at DL I will not ride, ever, it scares the crap out of me. The one at WDW is so much tamer, I will do it. I have a limit, only once a day when in DHS, which DGD hates, but I will do it and it does not scare me. I just don't like that stomach in my throat feeling. Roller coasters don't give you that feeling. I go on ever ride but I will say this is my least favorite, but it is not that bad. You may try it once, just to see, in WDW it is not that bad.
