Tortola: Questions about Jost Van Dyke Excursion

Hi everyone! My family (myself, wife, and 8 and 10 yo) is thinking about going to Jost Van Dyke for our Tortola excursion in July (assuming we can cruise at all). I'm concerned that the "Beach Transfer" will be too short so we're looking at the "Beach Day" (TT65). All we really want is a nice and relaxing day on the beach with good food and drinks and I have a few questions:
  • Any thoughts on the Beach Day from someone who's done it?
  • Are we really isolated into a roped-off area? Can we leave it if we want to?
  • Is the lunch on the beach or do we have to go somewhere else? I think I'd like to skip it and eat at one of the bars and restaurants on the beach instead.
Also, any recommendations for a private charter to get to Jost Van Dyke and back? Thank you!!!

Hi-we did the beach transfer last May. It was kind of short. I would have preferred something longer, ie. Beach Day, but it was sold out.

The area you are in is not roped off, but reserved for you with loungers and umbrellas. You are free to walk the beach and eat or drink where ever you like. Painkillers at Soggy Dollar. While we were just there for the transsfer, they were setting up for lunch and it is near where the loungers and umbrellas are. There are also restrooms for your use.

Aristocrat Charters is who I was planning to use for Jost, but I hedged and when I went to book, they were sold out. Many cruisers on these boards have used them. They will be the charter I plan to book when I go back.

It is beautiful there. Enjoy!

What a great photo, thanks for sharing it! And thanks for the info...we're going back and forth on the Beach Day or going with a private charter. I'm so scared that the private charter option blows up in our faces and we miss the ship or have a bad time. That said, there's a lot to say for flexibility. I'll probably take the safe route and go with the Beach Day, especially now that I hear that we can wander along the Bay at our leisure. :)
