Tortola - anything good within walking distance of ship?

Wondering if we can explore much while walking from ship in Tortola?

We walked around town but felt there wasn't much to see. There were plenty of open air taxis and the ferry was walking distance also so you could venture further out using those options but we ended up just going back to the ship.

Is there much to do at the port? We haven't planned any excursions that day and will get off the ship but I'm not sure how much there is to do.

The port itself has some shopping (similar to the setup in the St. Thomas port but with a smaller number of stores). If you walk out into town there really isn't much of anything.

I just cancelled the forest and beach excursion. Read that the hike was muddy and beach is polluted. Disappointing but would rather know now.
Just Van Dyke beach looks amazing but a long boat ride and crowded oh well. Staying on the Fantasy is not too tough.

We thought the shopping area in Tortola was horrible, very small. But I will admit that we might have missed part of it or something. We loved our excursion to the Baths, I think on the Virgin Gorda Island (?) A Highlight of our cruise was swimming there, it was gorgeous and the water was awesome.

If you're not going on an excursion to a neighboring island, I recommend Cane Garden Bay. It is nice enough- not amazing, but a nice, clean, safe & pleasant beach. My son and I had fun there. Skip any excursion versions of this and instead take a taxi there and back. I don't recommend changing clothes in the adjacent restaurant's bathroom, though.:crazy2:

I second this post.

Cane Garden Bay "did the job" if you're just looking for a beach to sit on, but it's not that great (IMHO). Don't take the Disney excursion though. A taxi from the port will cost you way less at $8/pp each way.

Yes we thought about taking a cab to Cane beach but read some recent articles about pollution there. Google it and they should come up. Probably fine but turned us off to going there. We will probably take a walk up town and go back. We bought four day passes to the Rain Forest in Senses instead of an excursion.
