Hoping all the NC DISers are safe.

Seems like Holly Springs had significant damage and Downtown Raleigh too.

The storms seem to have passed us here in Cary, but there are still tornados to the north east on the ground.

Thoughs to all.

Have you heard anything about Oxford in Granville County ? I am from there but live elsewhere now.

Im in holly springs. They've shown a house just a mile or two from us that is pretty damaged but my neighborhood is fine - sun came out for a while but its raining again now. I had the baby and the dog "hunkered down" in our powder room for about thirty minutes while it went by. I had snacks for the baby, water for all 3 of us, flashlights, pillow and blanket and the diaper bag but no hunker down storm snacks for me! Tornados are not nearly as good (snack speaking) as hurricanes.

Hope everyone else in the are is ok! The storms are still pretty bad and still going east of raleigh, so there haven't been a lot of reports of damage just yet. I haven't heard anything about oxford but i will post if i hear either way.

Best wishes to those who were affected. This was very unexpected.

Looking worse in other parts of the raleigh area - lots of businesses and homes leveled across the state. We were very lucky!

The damage looks very bad along I95 too. (Benson, Smthfield). We were very lucky too... Hope others faired as well. The photos of the Lowes store that was destroyed in Sanford are scary.

We are in the northern part of Clayton. We got lucky here, one went just north of us (the Holly springs one) and one just south of us (Smithfield/I-95). Reports are still sketchy as far a damage. I have not yet heard anything about the Granville area.

My parents are in Morrisville and my sister lives in Cary though they are on vacation in SC!

Amazing video from Sanford!

Praying that everyone is ok! We'll add all to the prayer list at church tomorrow!

Stay safe everyone!

We're in Wake Forest. Other than our grill flipping over the hedge - we're ok! Rolesville got hit pretty hard from pictures we have seen. Raleigh was hit the worst though.

The way the damage reports started piling in after dinner time, it seems like there may be some very serious damage by the time this is all sorted out. Looks like there were lots of tornados on the ground for a long time. The sanford/holly springs/raleigh one looks to have been on the ground for at least 100 miles!

So thankful my family is safe and hoping that the fatalities don't increase.

Lived in Durham, just outside RTP, for several years.
Hope everyone is safe. Things can be replaced - lives can't.

We were lucky and dodged all the tornados in my area too. Greene county seems to be hurt the worst. They had 10 fatalities. This was a terrible storm.

We experienced 50 mph last night during a terrible thunder and lightning storm. We did have tornado warnings at one point during the day. I hope everyone affected is safe.

We were lucky in our neighborhood (Wake/Johnston county line). We had winds and heavy rain.

Our favorite resteraunt owner said that his neighbor's house in Wake county was split in two. He also said that he had a lot of calls last night from people in the Capital RD/Wake Forest road area that were looking for open business.

NC Beast has coworkers that live in Wake Forest and Rolesville area are okay.

We're in Holly Springs. Tons of trees down and a bunch of damage. We were very lucky as the tornado went down the road in the front of our neighborhood but never touched our house. Seems like no body has power and that probably will be the case for days! Praying for all those who have been displaced and have to start over.

I heard this morning that Berti NC was hit hard.....also Gloucester VA was damaged pretty bad...they have a school that is completly gone, as well as the buses parked in the lot.....it's very rare that our area has storms like this. Where I live, we got the tail end of the storm...it rained real hard for about a half hour..then passed.
