Tornado in Springfield, MA

I was at my fiance's house in Agawam...just a few miles from the Memorial Bridge in Springfield...got to see it live. I think I pretty much just froze and thought to myself, "Wow...that's...really...a tornado."

I'm more concerned about my in-laws. DFi's parents live in Ludlow...when we got in touch with them, they were on their way home from Holyoke and hadn't even heard anything. Later on, we heard on the news that the power was out in Ludlow. Haven't heard from them yet.

DFi's brother, SIL, and 2 nieces live in Springfield, but on the border of East Longmeadow (literally - their next-door neighbor is in EL). Brother called and left a message, we tried calling back, but got his VM. SIL's phone didn't even ring. They don't have landlines, so we're stuck trying to contact them by cell. My fiance has his brother's work email; he said he'd try to email this morning. I'm sure they're all fine, but I still want to know...

I'm in Agawam, and that seemed to be an oasis among the chaos. No rain at all until about 8:00 pm.

It was scary for me, and I wasn't even home. I was at the Sox game in Boston. My friend received a call from his son that a little league game had been cancelled due to impending bad weather. That's all we knew until about 5:00 when my friends daughter called and said that all hell was breaking loose. Trucks overturned, billboards and trees down......

The journey back west was difficult due to torrential rain and the inability to contact my family. Radio stations were warning towns that we would need to pass right through. My friend received a call from his wife who had a flat tire after running over debris. Great!

Fortunately, all worked out well for us. The center of the storms missed us on the Pike, the tire was changed by a helpful shop owner, I was able to call my wife. As we drove through West Springfield, ambulances and police cruisers were still racing about. We could see some minor damage. We pulled into my driveway and exhaled.

even people near the Boston area are finding mail and other papers in their yards from the Springfield area and some of the other towns that got affected by the tornandos

I grew up in Brimfield and thankfully all family and friends are alive and well. It is awful to watch it. I thought for sure we would be dealing with that here in Pensacola, not friends and family in Brimfield!

Hello neighbor! We were lucky that all we got was thunderstorms. My DF & I finally got stir crazy and went to Amy's Place for a quick bite. We overheard another couple saying there were some trees down and a house with some damage over on Loudville Rd, but otherwise we were pretty ok :
hey there! Those thunder storms freaked me out. I was driving home from work (I work in CT) and watching my rearview at the black clouds!

I saw that! A guy in Upton got some papers from 65 miles west of him! So strange that it carries that far with the storm!

:grouphug:

I agree the skies were amazingly (and almost eerily) beautiful today.

Every time I hear the stoy of that mom who died shielding her daughter in the bathtub I get a huge lump in my throat. :guilty:

Stay safe, everyone.

My town just had thunderstorms and rain but we did have a tornado warning just after 7pm. My sister and I were in the basement from 3:30pm to after 5pm I think. Than we went down to the basement again for the above mentioned tornado warning. Thank god the tornado warning was canceled just after 8pm. I was so scared yesterday because of what was going on. Never went to go through that again ever.

I didn't even know there was a tornado warning until after the fact (Chicopee, MA). I was watching Millionaire Matchmaker on the Bravo channel and nothing was put out. So much for the Emergency Warning System on cable. :confused3
