Torn - car seat for 3 year old on plane?

Does a 2 year old not need a car seat on a plane? I assumed it was required.

Actually car seats on airplanes are not "required", just recommended, especially for children under two who have their own seats. They would not be secure in their seat without some sort of child restraint. The FAA recommends children under 40 lbs have a CRS. Last year when we flew to Fort Lauderdale, Southwest said NO to using the backless booster, they took it and put it overhead for us. They told us that only full boosters were okay.

We are only taking the ME for transportation so no car seat will be Fine for us, they probable don't have buckles to strap down the seats anyways!

Backless boosters and belt-positioning boosters are not allowed on airlines because a shoulder belt is required and airline seats only have lap belts. Boosters that have an internal harness and have the sticker on them that say they're approved for airline use are ok.

I looked into the Cosco Tote n Go too. It is VERY attractive bec. it only weighs 4 lbs but I've only heard bad things about it -- that they always need adjusting and kids sleep easily out of them.

We are renting a car so we have to have car seats. The rental companies will charge us $100 for the week (I have 3 yr old twins). This is outrageous....we will be forced to lug our own seats.....dont' look forward to this at all!!!!

Do you have an Entertainmentcard/book because there is coupons within the book for certain rental companies for free car safety seats during your vacations. I know their is definitly an avis coupon for that!
