Torn between POR and CBR

The last time we went, we stayed at Dixie Landings in September, 2000. We really enjoyed this property and are considering staying there again. The things we liked were:

-the water taxi to Downtown
-Boatwright's
-the food court
-great bus service
-the grounds

I was not thrilled with the beds......we had two beds that I thought they said were queen size but they seemed pretty small.

Having read a lot of the posts on here, though, CBR sounds really good and I am wondering if I should try to convince my husband to stay there instead. By the time we go again, it will be us, a 7 year old, and a 1 1/2 year old. Keeping in mind the things I said we liked about Dixie Landings, how does CBR compare? Can we get a room with a trundle bed that will also accommodate a pack'n play crib?

Any help will be appreciated....thanks!

The beds in the moderates are doubles, not queens. I've stayed at both and liked them both. If I had to choose, I would pick POR. POR is the only one with trundles.

You will have a slightly larger room at the CBR. They have refurbished the CBR rooms and they look nicely appointed. They seem to have more organization in them. I don't have Seasprays adress but she has great pictures of the room. The beds are only doubles. They have a curtain you can pull to make a dressing area in the room. I will be staying there in 10 days. I'll let you know if I like it better than the PO. I liked it when the children were younger but now when we go we need more space so we have been staying at the Poly or other deluxes. I am going with a friend this time and with just 2 of us I thought a moderate would be fine. PO doesn't have the boat to DDT any longer. I think that they said something about the drought makeing the water level too low. I'll see if I can find out.

Boat to DTD started running again this week:) ! We love PO, though I would like to try CBR one day.

We have stayed at both. We were there at Christmas and stayed at CBR. Going down this summer and stay at POR. They both are very nice. It just depends what atmosphere you like. I liked the food court better at POR. The main pool is nicer also. You can't go wrong with either.

I'd go with POR. We've stayed at both and love POR - have stayed there many times. I like the Alligator Bayou section, the landscaping is beautiful, pools are nicer and I like the food court better. The rooms at the moderates are all about the same size.

Hi vegasmom:

The other night I typed out a nice, LONG reply to you! Then I hit something wrong and totally lost my post, so I turned off the computer. :D

Now I will try again to address the concerns in your post....without messing up! LOL

The watertaxi to DTD: I'm sure this is very nice :) CBR only has bus transporation.

Boatwrights: The full service restaurant at CBR is called The Captain's Tavern.

Food court: I enjoyed everything I had at CBR's food court. I had a blueberry muffin (VERY good), scrambled eggs breakfast, individual pizza for lunch (very good), soft serve ice cream (VERY good), bakery items, all of which were great! :) I didn't eat any dinners at the food court so I can't comment on that. My relatives all enjoyed the items they had at the CBR food court too. Another thing: I was pleasantly surprised to see that the beverage stations in the food court had my favorite tea bags, Twinings English Breakfast :) They also had Tetley tea bags as well.

Bus service: I have stayed twice at CBR and both times had extremely GREAT bus service! I was there just last month with my brother and sister in law and they couldn't believe how efficient the Disney bus service was at CBR, to and from the parks. They had never stayed onsite before but now they said they will never stay OFFsite again, largely due to the convenience and ease of the bus service.

The grounds: What can I say about the grounds at CBR?? Please take a look at both of my web sites, at the pictures of CBR. This resort is beautiful with tropical, bright flowers, each of the villages is painted a different pastel color, the trees and shrubs and lawns are perfectly manicured..... :)

Now to answer your question about the crib and trundle beds. CBR does not have trundle beds but they do have roll away beds. CBR has the largest rooms of all the moderate resorts, so there is plenty of room for a roll away bed to fit between the front wall and the first bed (if you get a room with 2 beds in it). They have just totally remodeled all of the rooms at CBR and added a privacy curtain between the sinks/dressing area and the rest of the room. This is extremely handy :) They have also added a bench with storage underneath it, and a shelf with pegs, for more storage. Take a look at my pictures so you can see what the rooms look like, as to where you might want to put a pack and play. Like I said, CBR has the most room out of all the moderate resorts.

I hope this info is helpful to you.. happy planning!!!!! :)

I was wondering the same thing. I'm booked at the CBR and have heard such nice things about PO, too. The pictures on Seasprays website convinced me that CBR was the way to go. It just looked liked a vacation within a vacation.

I had some questions. Our last trip we stayed at the Contemporary and the year before that we stayed at the Swan. It's just my husband and I (both 30). He tends to prefer "hotels" over "resorts". Would the layout at CBR convert him? And is the transportation really good? Is it a nice resort for a young couple? We're going mid-June and have never had to rely on buses before. I can get a very good AAA rate at the Swan but I'd like to try something different this year, so that's why I went with the CBR. My husband would rather be at the Swan. I'm hoping the atmosphere at the CBR will make up for the buses.

Also, I'm paying $1,323 for a disney magic package through disney club from 6/10-6/15. Is this a good price?

I've stayed at both...POR (3 times) and CBR (1 time). If I were to go back tomorrow...it would be to POR. I liked CBR but I just enjoyed the layout of the resort better at Riverside.

Other pluses for us was the boat to DTD, the main pool area and the quiet pools - thought they were a little nicer. I also thought the food court at POR was much better. At CBR, you have to wait through multiple lines and check out at each one. For example....pizza, then another line for burgers and another line for ice cream - paying at each station. At POR, you pick up all of your items and check out at one central location. I felt this was more convenient.

If your interested in photos and more details, I've attached a link to my DIS website. There's LOTS of stuff about Riverside (Dixie Landings). Hope it helps!!
