Torn about QSDP

My boyfriend and I will be spending 5 nights (4 park days, plus arrival and departure) in WDW in October. The plan right now is to do mostly CS and the F&WF booths, with 3 signature meals (paid for OOP regardless). I'm torn as to whether to do the QSDP or pay for everything OOP. I'm a breakfast person, but my boyfriend isn't as much of one- he may eat a real breakfast some days, but other days may be happy with just a bottle of nesquick (which is his usual breakfast :lmao:). He tends to eat more later in the day than I do though, so it may come out in the wash. I like the idea of being mostly pre-paid, but I don't want to do it if it'll waste money. Any advice?

Your snack credits should be able to count with the F/W festival booths. Everything is not included, but there's enough of a choice that the snack credits are real handy with the booths.

Next, you can do separate meals like you having breakfast and maybe him having a late dinner. You can share your meals, too on the QS.

There are combo meals like rib and chicken at Starlight Cosmic Rays in MK that would be costly without the plan. Tangeirine's in Epcot's Morocco has another combo meal that's well worth it.

Another great advantage is you don't pay tax on your meals with the plan.

Actually if your planning on 3 signature meals I think you may be better off with the regular DP. It would cost an extra $200. That would more than cover the 3 meals plus you would still have 4 extra credits to use for 2 sit down breakfast or more TS dinners.

I just added the QSDP to our June ressie the other day. We are a family of 4, one of which is a "Disney Adult". We've used the regular DDP twice, but we just don't like being tied to an ADR every single day. So we booked three TS meals OOP for this trip (1 breakfast and 2 dinners), and we'll use the QSDP. I'm thinking we'll come out even, which is fine. Whatever we don't use, like in snacks, we'll get things to take home with us. If we have any CS credits left, we'll get food to go from Earl's or something, pack it in the cooler, and eat on the l-o-n-g drive home.

I hemmed and hawed over adding it, but my DH convinced me. I tend to be one of those "order the cheapest thing on the menu to save money" people, and my DH does not like that strategy on vacation. This way, everyone can order what they want, and Mom won't be mentally adding up the cost of everything. Plus, my oldest will be 14 and can eat us out of house and home, so I think Disney will lose money on him!!

ETA: I realize that we could have bought the regular DDP for a little more money (since we're paying OOP for 3 TS meals) but we aren't interested in doing more than the three TS meals this trip. We just want to be able to relax and enjoy, rather than watching the clock and scheduling in that hour of travel time to get from point A to point B. Been there, done that.

marcyinPA......I must be living a double life because what you said is me too.....:rotfl2:

That's what I was thinking...I'd go for the reg. plan also. You'd get all your reg. snacks & QS meals--just not the mugs. :thumbsup2

You can double up your credits and go to a signature meal dinner one night. Narcossee's is fab! You would have your 3 TS meals covered, too; unless, they are all signature places. Snack credits would be available for the fest. You can buy one mug and share it. You would have your QS this way, too. Why pay out of pocket, get the better plan. The no tax benefit is an incentive right off.

I think it would be fine for QS plan, too. You would have more meals; since, you would be OOP for TS meals.

Go for either plan; five days is not that long. Enjoy yourself; it's vacation.

You may get lucky enough to get free dining during your time slot. We all have to wait and see on that one.

Thanks everyone. We definitely don't want to do more then 3 sit-down meals because we don't want to be that tied to a schedule. I'm trying to be more mellow this trip so that it actually feels like a vacation for my boyfriend too. Because of that, we won't do the regular DDP (unless free dining is offered, because then we wouldn't mind wasting TS credits). The debate right now is whether we go OOP, or get the QSDP.

If you do the regular dining plan, then you get 5 credits each...3 signatures is 6 credits....so you don't have to plan anymore TS meals :)

If you are set for OOP for those and only considering QSDP...I would bet that you would have too much food on the QSDP and to me, $29.99 a night is a lot to pay if you are not going to maximize it.

Personally, I would only get the QSDP if I were going to use it for all 3 meals nearly every day. (use the 2 meals and snacks for another meal) for everyone in my party. You are already eating dinner out 3 nights, so you won't need it those days. And it sounds like you eat breakfast, and DBF eats lunch...so those could be split...I think you would eat much more cheaply and get what you want off the plan

ETA: I would just bring $60 per day to spend eating CS. So that I could budget.

Also, for things like Nesquick...will you have a fridge in the room? Will you have the ability to stop by a store, b/c you can just have some of those available.

Lol, I just realized I did the math wrong. That might actually make sense for us then- we won't have quite as many QS or snack credits to use, but we can always buy breakfasts OOP.

We won't have a fridge at Pop, and since we'd only really need it for the nesquick (and wouldn't have a car anyway since we're using ME), it is cheaper just to buy a bottle every day.
