"Topless" cruises?

We have been on several DCL cruises and are going again in June (there's nothing like a Disney cruise), but we are going on a Carnival cruise through a rewards program at work and I have been reading on cruisecritic.com that Carnival cruises are "topless". Does anyone know if that is so? We have a couple of kids, 10 and 7, going and I really don't think that is appropriate for them. Just makes me kind of nervous. Thanks for your help.

We were on a Carnival cruise last year and on one of the sun decks there was the option of going topless...very discreet though. I don't think the kids even picked up on the fact that it was topless, just thought it was adults only like some of the clubs.

and have only seen one topless woman on all of them. The deck is one you have to try to get to..it's not like you can just walk by and see them. You have to climb at least 1 staircase and sometimes 2. There is a sign that it is a top optional deck and it isnt very big and usually doesnt lead anywhere. I would just suggest you as the parent "scope" it out when you get on board and just steer your kids away from it and tell them nothings up there or something. Now going to a resort in Cancun there were topless people all over the place and thong wearers (we did see some of those on the cruise) but the topless thing is only allowed on 1 small deck. Our kids would never notice it

I have been on several carnival cruises, and some of the ships have a 'fennel' deck that they do allow topless sunbathing. You must be eighteen to get access to the deck.

I have to be honest and tell you that I did/do go topless on the "topless" deck of Carnival. I do it just because I can. It is though, VERY discreet, a top deck that is isolated and has a white canvas aroung the railings that prevents those on the lower decks from seeing. THE ONLY THING.......when the kids were in line for the slide, that deck was high enough that when they were getting on the slide they could get a complete view of the topless deck. But the kids were so enticed by the slide, none of them seemed to notice. AND there were very few people topless there anyway. Nothing at all to be worried about.

Dont worry - the kids won't be scarred for life if they see women topless sunning themselves. We travel to St. Maarten for 2 weeks every year, since my kids were born, they have seen it all, whether topless or nude, and it hasn't effected them one bit. They don't even notice it. My DD is 11 and DS is 4, the little guy questioned a nude bather on the non-nude area of Orient Beach last year, he just asked why didn't the man have his suit on, giggled a little, and that was that. On the Carnival Ships, the topless area is almost out of the way, unless they go through the gates, they won't even know it exists.

Thanks guys. If it were just me it wouldn't bother me but our children haven't really been exposed to it. Like I said, we've been on several DCL cruises before and it wasn't something we had to really worry about even coming up. Thanks again.

That's right, they are bottomless. I think Pluto is also bottomless. Not sure.
