Top Secret Pixie Dust! A Surprise 13th Birthday PTR! NEW! TRIP REPORT LINK PAGE 220!

I was thinking Snowbird - that's what people here do who can leave for the winter and go to a warm place - that's my dream. But I don't want anything cold associated with me! :goodvibes When I saw Titanic, I decided that freezing to death would have to be the worst way to die! :cold:

Okay, I'm mostly caught up! Your plans sound great - I know Operation 13 Candles is going to be a really special memory for Bullwinkle!

I thought you should know that I broke down and bought my first Vera.

That sounds like a confession, Cherie! :rotfl:

In today's prissy world that Coppertone ad is considered kiddy porn. I'm not kidding, isn't that sad?
evergreen out

Evergreen, They have the billboard for that ad at Cal. Adventure, so it is probably a copyright issue, like someone here said. I tried to copy and paste the billboard, but it is protected - here's the link:

http://dbowman.com/photos/disney/gallery/coppertone-billboard.php

Must get back to my hide-out. Gloworm over and out.

I bet the exhibit will be really neat to see Jackie. Especially for you, someone who really was interested in her life.

Her death was very sad. I was in high school, working at a nursing home, watching the coverage on our supper break. It was such a tragedy. I always think how much those boys must miss their mom. :(

Oh, you are so lucky to be able to see that! I'll have to research it as I wonder if it is traveling.

Enjoy! I also loved Princess Diana!

When I went to the exhibit, there was a remembrance book that one could sign. They had many books that the mourners had signed, it was so sad. Also, there was videos of Diana at school & many other events. There were several of her other gowns & dresses in addition to her wedding gown.
You will enjoy this exhibit.

That sounds like an amazing exhibit! I was only 3 when they married, but I do recall them being in the news throughout my childhood and I always thought she was one of the most beautiful women I had ever seen. When she died, I recall sitting at my parents home watching the news, just shocked. It was awful.

I hope you are able to take pictures, but I'm guessing most likely not... I look forward to your review on it!!!! Enjoy!

Princess Di, oh how exciting that will be! I was 15 when they married and was absolutely mesmerized. I do remember much to-do about the queen's hat at the wedding for some reason...

funny the things we recall.

When Diana and Charles courted and married I was already a grown up..... but how I loved their story.
Since her accident the royals just haven't been quite as fascinating.
Maybe when William finally marries.

For me I think once she and Charles divorced and Andrew and Fergie divorced it just made them seem all so...mortal. And less royal. It will be interesting to see what happens as time goes on.

Yeah I was 19 in 1981......:rolleyes1:rolleyes1:sad2:.

I was 4. I wish I were still 4

I wish I was still 15!

no. not really.

Everything good at your house this morning?
We didn't get nearly as much as they predicted, so I'm thinking you guys got little to nothing.
Trent was traveling over Monteagle Mountain in all that yesterday! :scared1: I was glad to hear from him on the other side of that.

Have a Super Saturday! :goodvibes

Sounds like you and your family will have a great time!!

Very cool! I hope that they allow photography, so you can come back and share it with all of us!

I was thinking this too. They had an awesome Egypt exhibit here and we went over Christmas not only for my kids to see but so I could take pictures for my class (we study Ancient Egypt in 2nd grade in VA). Wouldn't you know, they didn't allow photos.:confused3 I was really bummed!

I was 14 when Di got married. Oh how I wanted her haircut!!! :worship: I tried my best, but it just didn't look the same on wavy hair.:headache:

Thanks for all of your great updates. I'm happy to report that even though we had to reschedule our Dec. trip to Feb. 2011 (and pass up on our fantastic Bounceback Rate), I was able to book a quick trip to the Boardwalk Inn for me and my mom this July and use our BB offer. :thumbsup2

Neither of us have stayed at the Boardwalk before, so we are very excited. We are both also participating in the Disney Give A Day promo, so we will get a free day in the parks, too. Should be a great mom & daughter trip!

I too was overwhelmed researching cakes. I finally decided and ordered one but it never arrived. Hopefully that doesn't happen to you. Make sure you follow up!

Jackie! I have been away for too long. I just found this PTR and am looking forward to reading it! We are in the very beginning phase of planning an Oct 2010 trip, so I have to get all the details. Not sure if you remember me from our August 2008 trip with the two teenagers - Katie and Caitlin. It's great to be back!

My DD and DH both got the White Chocolate Mickey with goodies on the plate and cards when we stayed at GF in 08! DD's birthday was our second day and DH's was our last full day! It was a very nice suprise!!! DD also got a a few stuffed animals, towel animals and a card from the mousekeeping staff!

Definitely make sure they note on the reservation that it's her birthday!

As far as a cake goes, I've ordered basic cakes with writing on them in the past and had pretty good success.

During our last trip I ordered a Mad-Hatter Cake for my sister and nephew for our dinner at Chef Mickey. it was $100 and the cake looked awesome!! It wasn't the best tasting cake ever but the presentation definitely made up for it! I'd post a picture but I haven't gotten that far uploading into photobucket. I do have it on Facebook though.

I hope you guy have a fabulous trip to the Princess Diana exhibit! I have vague memories of the wedding. I really remember the dress and all the little flower girls! I remember thinking that she was a real princess!

I think her death is one of things where everyone remembers where they were when the found out. It was the morning after I went back to college for my senior year. I was sleeping on a futon in the living room of my appartment and my parents were sleeping in on of the bedrooms. I couldn't sleep so turned on the TV new at like 5 am and they were talking about the accident. Then they came on and said they had confirmation that she was dead. I remember my heart sinking. What a terrible tragedy. She brought so much good to the world through her role as princess

Jackie that sounds like a wonderful exhibit. I was 19 yrs old when they got married & I watched it on tv also. I remember watching the sad news of her death sitting here in the living room. She was so beautiful & so young.

On to the cake issue-I hope they have cakes that are less than $100.00!!:scared1: I would never pay that much for a cake but to each their own.

I would love to see the Diana exhibit. I was 14 when she got married, and like everyone else, was awake early to watch. It was amazing. I still own the official picture book of the wedding. I also remember where I was when I heard the sad news about her death. I was living with my in-laws, and I was sitting on the floor of the family room with my DD. It was so sad. I was glued to the TV for hours.

I hope you have a great time at the exhibit.

That's the problem then. I'm always looking for my glasses!

:rotfl: You should get one of those eyeglass straps!

I guess I'll tell on myself here, ....I was there,... but not as a pre-schooler or 1st grader----but, a teenager! 13 to be exact! :)

That's really only 7 years difference between us -- not much at all once you get to our age.

I remember watching the wedding on TV, too. :goodvibes When you mentioned this on Facebook, I figured it was the trip you were talking about here. Very excited for you! :goodvibes

Next weekend! I can't wait!

Wow I have the same memories, watching the wedding on TV when I was a small child and then hearing about her death with a tiny baby. Not many people in the UK are Royalists but I like them, I've met/seen a few including the Queen who is sooooo tiny and looks like a china doll :goodvibes

I thought you're comment was so interesting, Jo, because I always assumed all British were Royalists. Too cool to have seen/met some of the Royals!

:lmao::rotfl2:

As my Mom would say, " You are 4 going on 13!" :rotfl2:

I used to say that about Chelsea -- little did I know what she would really be like at 13!

:thumbsup2

Looking it up now!!

So, are you going to go???

IMHO, the cakes look better than they taste! I'm always on the cake thread and most dissers tend to agree. Now the mini cake was very yummy!!!!!!! I think that the cakes that I buy here at home are better. Oh, I usually order my cakes two weeks in advance and I always follow-up!

Hmmm, maybe I will go with the mini cake! So many decisions to make...

Jackie, my birthday cake was made by the Baker's Man in Forsyth County. Yes, I drive an hour away to get delicious cakes!! This is a white chocolate cake with white chocalate filling and buttercream. Just look at the white chocolate curls!! Lol This cake wasn't over $100 and he handpainted the characters on a white chocolate mold!!

DisneyLand2439.jpg

This looks delicious!!! Watch me start driving to Forsythe for cakes now. :lmao:

That sounds like it's going to be a wonderful girly trip for the two of you. What a great day to see that wedding dress! I remember watching that morning. It was so beautiful!

It was so beautiful! I can't wait to see it and everything else in person!

I, too watched the wedding, but was the mother of 4 young boys at that time.Of course they were totally uninterested in any of that sort of stuff. I was so sad when she was killed in the auto accident & I watched most of the funeral. I'm surprised that Chelsea didn't know who she was, I guess that is due to the fact that she has been gone for almost 13 years.

I did see that exhibit when it was here in Ohio. Her gown was really something to see in person, lots of silk & beading.

evergreen out

I can't wait to see that wedding dress and the tiara! I guess I never really talked about Diana to Chelsea -- she was only six weeks old when she died.

Okay I REALLY want some cake now! :rotfl2: I can see what you mean about them not tasting so good.....on Ace of Cakes they always LOOK good...but I often wonder how they taste (especially after all of the hand contact :faint:) However, that being said I do think you should have one a day! :rotfl2:

I really have been craving cake lately, too. I got the stuff to make a carrot cake this week because of all of us talking about it here. ;)

OMG Jackie I had pink high top sneakers too! :rotfl: They were pink Reebok's with the two velcro straps at the top. Oh how I loved them!!

My mom always refused to pay name-brand prices so mine were some knock off brand, but I still thought I was so cool. LOL!

I am so excited for you and your Princess Diana trip :goodvibes I remember taking it all in as my 11 (gasp) year old self....The best part is that you get to see the DRESS!! :woohoo:

I know -- that's the part I am most excited about!

We're going to Chef Mickey's for my nephew's 3rd birthday in June. I told my sister she could order a cake, but she hasn't yet. Maybe if I show her those pictures, she'll change her mind. Who cares that we're going for breakfast? :rotfl:

At Disney, it is always a good time for cake! :thumbsup2

There was a temporary display of Diana's dressed at the Hard Rock Hotel that were beautiful, but there were no other mementos or her wedding dress. It has since been moved to a permanent location, so maybe there are more things included now.

I was completely obsessed with Diana's wardrobe when I was little!

Hi Jackie! Your ADR'S all sound great! Can't wait to see what happens with the cake and the rest of your plans!:thumbsup2

Thanks, Diane! Planning all our meals and other food goodies is always one of my favorite parts.

very cool about the princess di exhibit! it sounds like it's something you are really excited about! :goodvibes

Oh, definitely! My mom and I were talking about it this weekend and hoping they have a good gift shop.

OOOH...I was a huge Princess Diana fan...okay actually I was more of a Prince William fan LOL!! But I was mesmorized by her...I would watch clips of her wedding and you are right she was breathtaking! Then I would imagine my own royal wedding to Prince William...of course I ended up with a Prince Phillip instead but I'm okay with that ;)

I hope you have a great time at the exhibit!!!

:lmao::rotfl::rotfl2: Prince William was always a cutie!

How very cool you get to go to that! Neat. When I was in London about three years ago, they had a costume/couture exhibit at the Victoria and Albert Museum. at the end of that exhibit they had some of their permanent collection displayed and it had several "royal" dresses -- the Queen, Princess Margaret, Diana, their gowns etc. It was really neat to see.

How fun!!! That would be a great exhibit to see. I have always been interested in fashions through the ages. I remember loving the gallery of the First Lady gowns at the Smithsonian, and positively drooling through the costume galleries at the MMA.

I sat up at 3 am to see that wedding too... I remember ... and I remember the sad news about her death, too, and the funeral, etc. so so sad. But how neat that there is an opportunity to see a piece of her, including that iconic dress... Its like the dress that launched a thousand dresses... it and her engagement ring. Anyhow, what a neat thing to share with your daughter. Such a slice of history, not just for the English.

I am like a kid the night before Christmas thinking about heading to the exhibit this weekend. Connor will not be going with us as he has no interest. Imagine that. :rotfl:

Are you trying to make us feel old?

Not Jen! LOL!

I was only 2 when she got married but I had quite the obsession with her as a child. I read everything I could get my hands on about Princess Diana! I will never forget the night she passed away. We were visting my ILs in AL and watched everything onfold on the news. It was sooo sad! :sad1:

This exhibit sounds AMAZING!!! :lovestruc

It was positively surreal when it happened. I couldn't quite believe it had actually happened.

First off, great ADRs!
And the Princess Diana exhibit sounds amazing! I live in Atlanta so I might just have to make a trip to see it - thanks for posting about it :goodvibes

Thank you! Oh, you should definitely go see it -- it is here through June so that gives you a lot of time to make plans. ;)

Very exciting! You're going to have a great time. I can't wait to see what little goodies you come home with.

You know I will come home with something to remember to it by! :goodvibes

I was 16 when Princess Diana got married and I was recovering from having my wisdom teeth out!!!

Oh, wow! That would not have been fun!

I had a small 2 babies when she died and it was Labor Day weekend and we were visiting friends in Florida. Funny how you remember things like that. I remember my parents talking about when Kennedy was shot.

It is so interesting to me that we always remember exactly where we were and what we were doing when something like that happens.

At any rate, what a lovely thing to be able to take Chelsea to see. I think it is nice to share something you liked as a child with your child. That is part of the reason I love taking my kids to Disney.:lovestruc

I think Chelsea is really going to enjoy it.

What a fun time you will have:cool1:
I still remember where I was as I heard the news of the car accident--cleaning the mini blinds--something I now put off for as long as possible!!

Nothing bad has ever happened to me while cleaning the mini-blinds, but I still hate doing it. ;)

I don't remember watching the wedding, but I remember hearing about it - I would have been 7.

However I do clearly remember the moment I heard of her death. Tim & I had been married less than a year and were living in CT at the time. We had gotten together with another couple that night. We were sitting around our dining room table playing cards and listening to the radio when the breaking news cut in to report about the accident. I think we all stayed up later than we would have that night just because we didn't want to turn off the radio.

I can't wait to hear about the exhibit!

I remember avoiding listening to too much about it all because I was so upset by it.

I will definitely be doing a full report all about it!

Have you considered the white chocolate Cinderella slipper for Chelsea.... it was awesome and so pretty at the GF when we got one for Hannah....

I don't think I realized they did those at the GF -- I thought they only did them at the Castle. Definitely something else to consider. Thanks, Laura! :goodvibes

Wow- what and exciting little trip you have planned! I love Chelsea's response  ...it's true though- this generation really has no clue about the royals. I remember growing up that they were always in the news. Princess Di was always up to something, then came Fergie. The original Fergie- haha, I just had a funny thought, if you asked Chelsea to go see a Fergie clothing exhibit she would think she was going to see hoochie mama skirts and low cut tops! :rotfl:

Chelsea did think I meant the other Fergie when I said something about her the other day. Fergie was always causing trouble -- I loved her spunk. :lmao:

I remember the day she died- it really feels like yesterday- so sad :guilty:. I am sure this will be a very memorable experience for you and your family.Take lots of pics if you are allowed?

It doesn't seem like it's been almost 13 years at all!

Thanks for the info. I think I'll pass on the cake. If I spend that much money it should at least taste good.:rotfl:

Disney seems to do a lot of celebration type desserts so a cake might be too much anyway.

I'm really excited for you on the Princess Diana exhibit. I think it's going to be wonderful.

Yes, educate away with Chelsea! She must be informed so she can fully appreciate. At the very least she can appreciate her very nice looking sons. :rolleyes1 I'm still fascinated by who they will end up marrying themselves.

I did dig out a bunch of my Princess Diana stuff from boxes this past weekend. Then, I had to sit on the floor and look through all of it. LOL!

When Diana and Charles courted and married I was already a grown up..... but how I loved their story.
Since her accident the royals just haven't been quite as fascinating.
Maybe when William finally marries.

I know you are going to enjoy the exhibit, I sure would!:goodvibes

Nope, the Royals seem to behave themselves these days. I don't remember the last time any of them did anything naughty.

Hey Jackie,

your adrs sound lovely...:goodvibes

I haven't been to Tutto and think it sounds fab, I haven't been to Le Cellier and will probably never get in...:lmao:

Yak and Yeti were lots of fun-as was Prime Time...

Tea of course sounds divine...we'll be doing that as well...;)

Hi, Patricia!!! I am very excited about our ADRs. I didn't have any problem getting Le Cellier so maybe you will have good luck today!

So sorry about Chelsea and the Middle School Mean Madness...I do think 7th grade is the worse...Em is in 9th now and it has stabilized quite a bit...(but then the boy thing kind of picks up...;)

I hear that quite frequently from parents -- I hope it holds true for Chelsea because I don't know how much more I can take of all this middle school drama. It was another rough week this past week.

Ah...loved Princess Diana...:goodvibes...I think she definitely lives on in her sons...especially William...he looks just like her...

I agree -- every time I see William, I think how much he looks like his mother.

Yeah I was 19 in 1981......:rolleyes1:rolleyes1:sad2:.

Shhh...we won't tell anyone...:ssst::laughing:

I can't wait to hear about your visit to the Princess Di exhibit. I hope you plan to take lots of photos.

The cake photos are wonderful. I have to upload and post a mini castle cake that I ordered. It was great.

I will take lots of photos -- hope I can take some in the exhibit.

I was 4. I wish I were still 4

No, you don't! :rotfl:

I had those paper dolls too...I remember watching the wedding to on tv...I was 8. And I also remember when she passed, we heard on the car radio we were out celebrating my b-day w/ friends.

I loved those paper dolls -- they had all of her early outfits like that black dress, and her pink honeymoon outfit.

The exhibit sounds wonderful! I remeber seeing a wonderful exhibit here in Chicago showcasing Jackie Kenendy...it was wonderul. I bet this will be too.

have fun!

Stardust

That would be another neat exhibit to see -- I have always loved Jackie Kennedy. She had the best clothes as well!

That sounds wonderful! I want to go! I am so infatuated with all things English. Take lots of pictures to share with all of us!

I will! I have always loved anything connected with England.

Oh, I was almost 13 when Princess Diana and Charles got married. My neighbor lady came over and she, my mom and I watched it at like 4 a.m.

It was like the crack of dawn. Actually I remember it being dark outside most of the time we were watching the wedding.

When she died, DH and I had been married about 2 months and he was working evening hours. I was sitting on the couch glued to the news channels until about 2 a.m. So sad.
It would be really cool to see the exhibit!

It was very tragic!

All those cakes make me wish it was my birthday! And make me hungry!

I know -- I wish I had a couple of slices right now!

I remember being absolutely transfixed by the wedding and in shock by her death. I'd love to see the exhibit too. But for now will look forward to a full report! I hope you can take pictures!

You know I will report back all the details of the exhibit with lots of pictures (either of just outside or both outside and inside)!

It's so neat that so many people remember when she got married and what they were doing when we got the news of her death.

I loved the fairy tale and it crushed me when she died. I really hope she was happy when she died. She seemed to go through so much pain and to be truly giving person. She was the only "real person" of all the royals.

I was visiting my half sister for the first time when she died. We had just met her for the first time that year.

I agree! The world lost a wonderful person when Diana died.

I saw on Facebook that you are going to see this -- how awesome! I am so excited for you!

Thank you! I am counting down the days. Maybe I should have a Diana exhibit ticker. :rotfl:

I was thinking Snowbird - that's what people here do who can leave for the winter and go to a warm place - that's my dream. But I don't want anything cold associated with me! :goodvibes When I saw Titanic, I decided that freezing to death would have to be the worst way to die! :cold:

I think that is one of the reasons I don't like the movie -- I hate being cold.

Okay, I'm mostly caught up! Your plans sound great - I know Operation 13 Candles is going to be a really special memory for Bullwinkle!

Must get back to my hide-out. Gloworm over and out.

Thank you! I hope Chelsea loves the trip as much as I have loved planning it.

Very cool! I hope that they allow photography, so you can come back and share it with all of us!

I hope so, too! :goodvibes
