Top Secret Menus: Complete list

That restaurant doesn't offer pancakes. They are special, off menu and there for the sake of people who are unable to eat the regular items because it could kill them. If at your restaurant you gave every single table the exact same meal- that is the deal- they come in for $10 and they get the same plate as everybody else and you kept a hidden item in the back that was three times the food cost just in case somebody was allergic to the main item, that would be the situation we are talking about right now. If you were running this restaurant and your deal with the allergy people was that just as a favor because you aren't a jerk you would let them eat that one expensive thing for the same price- if somebody posted it online and EVERYBODY started coming in and ordering the special item- would you keep up that offer? Of course you wouldn't.

I can tell by your reply you didn't actually read my post because you were so impatient to prove yourself more knowledgeable. If you read it you would not be accusing me of wanting to police people's tables. Unless you are a sociopath (which I don't believe) you also might show a hint of compassion if you bothered to read what I wrote.
I am asking for people to be nice and not abuse off menu allergy items because there are people who need them. I didn't say other people aren't allowed to have them, I asked people to be considerate. If you think it is wrong for me to ask people to have a bit of empathy, I just hope you aren't that way in real life off of the boards.

I've read all your posts and I have allergies.

I also agree that you are a little 'over the top' here.

First of all, most reasonable people paying $40 for a buffet (as you mentioned) are not going to be focussed on 'free pancakes'!

So this is really a non issue, and as the two restaurant owner above stated, people can order what they want regardless of your thoughts.

Oh heck, this thread is making me want to rush over to Epcot and order some free pancakes!

I have multiple severe allergies and I agree with the PP. people post here all the time about the allergy chicken tenders and how good they are and guess what....they don't have an unlimited amount of them. Why should t be okay for someone who does not have allergies to request the allergy chicken tenders when they can't eat the regular? Chicken tenders in Disney world are a HUGE treat for me. I can't eat chicken tenders in the "real world" so why is it okay for me not to be able to get them for a snack in the afternoon because others were ordering them even though they didn't need them and one of the chefs at POP made a comment that things like that happen more often than people think because people want something special.

Same goes for namaste pancake and waffle is. They don't have a huge supply of it. The chef at POP told me to make sure to some down before the opening rush to make sure I could get some namaste only waffles because they do run out of that mix sometimes. I can't have regular pancakes or bobs red mill GF pancakes because of allergies.

I don't know what your allergies are but my diet is extremely limited because if my allergies (peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, dairy, shellfish, wheat, oats, soy, sesame, sunflower, ginger, coconut, raw fruits and raw veggies) and I was just preliminarily diagnosed with eosinophilic colitis so things just got more limited.
I should be able to get safe food in Disney without worrying that non allergic people have ordered it because they "want it".

Sometimes I wish you had to prove you have allergies or sensitivities at Disney....it would keep people from ordering the safe food....

First of all it is just wrong of you to assume that people are ordering things that YOU think they need less than you. YOU don't necessarily know what others problems or allergies are.

I am not trying to be rude or insensitive to your needs but your assumption is that other guests visiting Disney and paying huge amounts for the experience really are going to take into account that you or I have medical issues.

Disney tries to accommodate but try to remember they are never going to impact a regular guest who says they want or need special food. It would be way too difficult for them to take on that decision making process.

That said, I hope you are able to enjoy your chicken and can get it when you want it.

The whole point was just to say if there is a limited item there specifically because people need it, please be considerate if you don't need it. Don't read any more into it. That is the entire request. Nobody is assuming others are considering their medical needs- we actually know they aren't- but most people are moral enough that if they understand a situation will consider others. If you act like everybody sucks, assume that they won't give a crap about you and never give them a chance to understand then they never will.

Despite some of the completely absurd responses here, I trust in people to be intelligent and good.

We are considering things that aren't even offered unless you specifically go out of your way to ask for them, it is asking people to do what is more convenient for them anyways. This whole argument that people shouldn't feel bad for going out of their way to take something meant for other people even if they know it isn't intended for them and the other people have no other option baffles me. Why are people so insistent that others should without guilt go out of their way to be intentionally inconsiderate? What an odd thing to do in the first place. The same way it's socially recognized as wrong to insist on the handicapped room if you don't need it, it is rude to insist on the off-menu special needs items if you don't have a need for them and you know they are not intended for you. People just asking about things and stumbling upon another offer not knowing is different than broadcasting online that a special item is available and then people pouring in and ordering it- taking precious time of the chefs when there are other people who can not eat at all without that chef's time. These are completely different items and prepared separately from the rest of the food. It's not like ordering your burger with no onions.

I get the food allergy issue, my dd has a severe but unknown allergy, along with an shellfish allergy requiring an epi-pen and the whole thing AND we're vegetarians so I get the not having anything to eat. But a food allergy is NOT the only reason why someone may need a pancake. The pp that sparked the comment said that her kid was basically not eating anything else on the menu at the time. Very little kids 2-4 can be ridiculously stubborn about this, sometimes they have a sensory issue with other food sometimes they are just picky. If the restaurant is willing to give my kid a pancake that will make them happy vs. them not eating when we paid for the meal and the whole family suffering all day due to the behavior a missed meal would create....it's a no brainer for me. If there is responsibility for a restriction on who gets a pancake then it should be Disney's doing, sparked perhaps by an allergy minded parent's letter. I mean should other people not order salads because it is the only thing I can eat at some of the restaurants? If you think it is not the same, what about if I get low blood sugar if I don't eat and I can pass out? How about my other dd who has a heart condition and is a vegetarian? Her menu options can be as limited as your child's. Try feeding a vegetarian kid at Disney when they can't have mac and cheese, fries or pizza. The responsibility here for your family lies with YOU , just like the responsibility for mine is with ME . We bring food we can eat to the parks. Does it suck sometimes that our choices are so limited, absolutely. Does it mean everyone else needs to take responsibilty for it ? No. And in fact if the salads and healthy foods and allergy foods become so popular perhaps we'll end up with more offerings in the long run. And no I don't take a handicap room normally if it is a little bigger, but when my family got food poisioning on a road trip I sure did, and I don' t think there is anything wrong with it. I'm sure most parents here have gone in the handicap restroom stall too when their little one had to go NOW and there was no open stall, or they had a baby in a stroller and it was open. I wouldn't make it a habit when I had other viable options just because I prefer the private sink, but I don't think it is reasonable to let my child wet herself, because a handicap person might come along at that moment and then might have to wait.

Do you realize that if you read the post you quoted, my own words were "People just asking about things and stumbling upon another offer not knowing is different ..." (different than ordering it because you heard it exists) For the record, yes I agree something like using the handicapped stall because you need to get the kid or the stroller into the bathroom is needed. As you suggest, I agree it is totally different than just using it for the sink all the time.

I have no objection to somebody ordering something special if they have some need for it. That includes a sensory need, or a kid who won't eat other things or whatever. A need is a need. Sometimes "secrets" like the pancakes at Akershus get put online, then people get them just because they CAN. I have a sister like that. She would seriously see it on this board and next time she went there order any of the special items she heard of, because they are free. Like the PP said with the allergy tenders. People hear that they have other special tenders and then order them even though they are not on the menu because they want to be special. If it gets talked about, people will order pancakes not because anybody needs or even just really wants pancakes, but because they are there and they know a secret so they are going to be special too. That is mean if you know better, but some people don't know better so I just asked not to encourage people to order them "just because". Again (for at least the third time in this thread) ordering a salad at a place that has salad on the menu is completely different than going in and ordering the "secret" item that is not on the menu and is made from ingredients that are not on the menu in any form. If you don't go into McDonalds and ask for the spaghetti basket why would you go into Akershus and order pancakes? There are no pancakes on their menu, just like there is no spaghetti on McDonald's menu.

I know a great example of a current issue specific to Disney. Everybody wants to know the special magic secret- so there were a dozen or so threads about yelling "Andy's coming" in the past week, I saw it on facebook maybe 5 times. One day this week, a CM reported that all the toys were instructed not to collapse anymore because now everybody knows and it's a PIA. If the chef has to make too many special orders they will stop them. The special diets department handles a TON of individual cases, if there are too many and the cost becomes too great they aren't going to hire more people, eventually they will just cut the program.

I'm aware of the comment that sparked this because I responded to it and somebody said I was absurd for suggesting the unadvertised allergy food was meant for people with needs and not just for everybody coming in. (if it was for everybody coming in it would be on the menu- duh)

I think we agree more than you think we do. I am not, nor have I at any point been asking anyone to go out of their way to do a favor for others. If anybody had a need and "word getting out" threatened their accommodation I would respect that. For whatever reason if you tell people you have a food need they act like you are just being picky and go out of their way to tell you to buzz off because they like being selfish. I'm sure you have experienced this. If not, go back a page and you can read it for yourself.

I guess I have a hard time thinking someone would actually order the pancakes or whatever that didn't need it for some reason. I'm sure the reason wouldn't always be a food allergy but I mean you are at Disney and they are just pancakes. Maybe we just have a different experience of people.

Pocomom - your previous post said it all very well and you are also spot on with this comment.

Most baristas at Starbucks will know half of the "secret" menu at best. Many of those Starbucks drinks were never offered and are fan made names. The one that is called a Zebra Macchiato is actually a marble mocha macchiato. It was in the menu for one season and then was taken off because no one wanted it. Also the short isn't any cheaper. By volume you send more per and ounce and in most drinks save 40 cents. Shorts also only come in hot beverages

Also a poor mans ice latte is simple shots over ice. If you ever order an Americano with no water the barista might laugh because the water is what makes it an Americano. You can also get a hot version but the Mille addition will make like Luke warm to cold.

There are so many Starbucks tricks but the "secret" menu really pisses a lot of baristas off because it isn't a real thing. We don't have recipe cards for these drinks and like I said most of them are fan made. If you know how to make it a barista will gladly put it together for you but don't want in saying you want a Bleeding Zebra and expect any barista to know what you want.

Sounds like a bartender! I hear people order all these uncommon drinks than when asked what's in it they have no idea!

People are kind of crazy and cheap sometimes. They bring back mugs and use them again, they use the condiments to make "salads" (saw this 3 times on our trip in January!) they order special allergy cleaning because they can, they ask for gacs, without disabilities, claim birthdays in hopes of desserts, anything to be "special" or get more for nothing.

So yes, there are people who will exploit whatever they can. :/
