In November while staying at BLT when I was going to the Top of World Lounge I was asked to punch in my pin code after I showed my blue card. The girl said I needed to use this to access the lounge although she let me up anyways because she knew I was staying at that resort.

I thought the pin was to link your magic band to $ charges?

Probably to ensure you were the blue card member.

I apologize in advance, as I'm sure this has been asked a million times--but what are the access rules for the Lounge?

But why did they require punching in a PIN code? If a DVC member never wanted to charge to their room and never wanted to do online check in, they might not have a PIN. (I assume this is referring to the PIN for your room, because I have never heard that having a DVC contract meant that a person had to set up a PIN.

If you don't complete online check in and create a PIN, you would be required to when you check in at the front desk. Once a PIN has been established, the same PIN will be valid for all subsequent stays at WDW.

Not true. If you check in at the front desk and don't want room charging, then there will be no PIN established.

No you’re not.

The PIN is only required for room charging, and if you don’t want to do that you never have to have a PIN or remember an old one you might have set up.

I had one set up a million years ago and MDE says I have one and I did online checkin without entering it.

During the second part of our Princess stay I decided that it would be useful for my son to charge, so I changed it at the front desk two days after we checked in.

In the meantime, we had visited TOTWL and no one asked me for a PIN. Just the card and maybe my ID. I wouldn’t have known the PIN when we visited. But it wasn’t asked.

We have gone to ToTW many times and never had someone request a pin. They always ask for member card and ID. All DVC members are entitled to use ToTW Lounge, not just blue card holders.

Hello All. an updated question. My Son is going to be at BLT on his honeymoon using our points in October. Can he access the TOTW tower if he has my husband's DVC card? He has the same name so when he shows his license and the DVC card it would be the same. Is that breaking the rules do you think? OR could I put my son on our DVC account as an associate? Would that give him a DVC card? Its going to be his contract anyways one day! LOL. Thanks for any advice!

OH and we were there in Feb and no one asked us to enter a PIN when we went up to the TOTW. My hubby showed our DVC card and his license. That sounds very weird.

We were just there a few days ago. We were staying atcOKW and drove over to watch the fireworks. We told the guard we were there to watch the fireworks. He said welcome back and enjoy the fireworks. Park where you want. We go to TOTW every visit and have never been denied parking. We also just flash a blue card and have never been asked to prove identity.

Yes it’s breaking the rules.

Will he be caught? Who knows. But he knows he’s not the “John Smith” on the card...

OR could I put my son on our DVC account as an associate? Would that give him a DVC card?

Nope. Associates do not get cards of any kind.

You would need to add him to the deed. Which can be done in a month or two for about $200 through a company like LTTravel. But then it’s as much his contract as yours.

And once he’s married it becomes part hers. Can get tricky if they go through bankruptcy or divorce. (Which is awful to think about. But I recently went through a difficult and unexpected divorce and it’s only because of some ridiculous amounts of fairness that it didn’t get ugly about house and DVC...most people don’t experience fairness in divorce)

Oh that’s an excellent point and unfortunately sad to think about. Not worth it!! Thanks

Just because you get away with it, doesn't make it right. DVC has asked members going up to the TOTWL to use Disney transportation to get to BLT if they are not staying at BLT or the CR.

I would think that they should have been turned away by the Gate CM then. They were honest about their intentions and I have to be honest that I wouldn’t have known that off the top of my head. I don’t recall an urgent email from DVC about this so I must have missed that.

They don't know what DVC has told members about going to the TOTWL. Member do know. Plus it is a real pain when you come back to BLT after leaving MK and seeing all the cars leaving the parking lot because they weren't even staying at either the CR or BLT and were just taking up parking spaces.

The information about going up to the TOTWL is located at the member website on the BLT overview page. You need to click on the TOTWL link and then open every one of the four sections on this page.
