Top of the World lounge ??s

How great! But it's nothing on the menu is it? That's a pet peeve of mine for what they've done at virtually all the bar locations - made the bar menus generic. So if someone hadn't had the Monorail Yellow before they'd never get to try it out.

Kathy - In all honesty, I can't quite remember how we stumbled upon this. I want to say that it was actually listed on a drink menu. Perhaps not the "main menu", but a "drink specials" list. I can't recall for sure with all of the excitement, but I will get to the bottom of that during my September visit! Good question. The bartender claims to have had an all-inclusive recipe book, in which many drinks that have come and gone from WDW can still be ordered. I imagine that all of the major bars on property would have the same reference book.

I totally agree - I was very un-impressed with the generic menus found at almost all bar locations, essentially taking the uniqueness of each particular location and throwing it out the window...

Off topic, but I know you can get a Salmon Run at the WL pool bar just by asking. I've done that since they went to the generic menus. We need a list of all the old drinks.

Can you please share what a Salmon Run is comprised of? It sounds intriguing.

Despite my disdain for the "generic menus", I must admit, I really fell in love with the Pina Colova...

Monorail Yellow is one of the signature drinks at Top of the World. I asked the bartender if he could make any of the other Monorail drinks and he said sadly, he didn't have the ingredients to make them...

Unless the policy changed, they do take TIW card.

We have used it several times at TOTWL.
We have had small meals with flatbreads and adult beverages and received the TIW discount there.

It's one of the perks that I like with TIW over the DDP.

Sorry I don't actually know the ingredients in a Salmon Run! I jut had had one many years previously at the WL, so a few years ago, I asked the bartender if they could still make it. All I can tell you is that it's salmon-colored! I don't even recall what was in it.

Does the Top of the World Lounge ever reach "capacity"? In June I was staying at Kidani and asked the concierge, and she said it has become very popular now and I may not get in.

I really didn't believe her though. I am returning with guests in October and I wanted to visit it.

As long as you aren't there during a blackout time, you and any guests staying with you at WDW can head that way. But you cannot park at CR or BLT. You'll need to use Disney transportation or park at the TTC.

The urban dictionary shows it as Tequila, V8 and orange juice.

Wow, I would not have guessed V8, it seemed sweet to me, not at all like a Bloody Mary. Must be heavy on the OJ or else my memory is faulty.

How do you get there? After I get off the monorail, I have no idea where to go.
What time does it open?
Is the flatbread they serve enough for a meal for one person? I don't want to see the fireworks from there, but I would like to go earlier in the evening for a QS dinner.
Lastly, does anyone know if they take the Tables in Wonderland card?

hi

okay you get off the monorail and walk across the floor - the door is behind all the gift shops - you walk across the sky walk - the doors now are forced open (which I don't like) - so you won't have a problem.

get on the elevator and go to the first floor - then to the lobby area - the cm there will direct you the northern elevators (you came in on the southern) - then they bunch the button and you go to the 16th floor.
this is where you need to show them your key and prove you are staying on property and you are a DVC member.

not sure but really thought they did take the tables of wonderland - since it is a lounge . they might have changed but don't think so.

I will arrive at VWL on Dec 29th -Jan. 4. We would love to visit the lounge, but are doing CP & Epcot on the 29th. Do you think they will open it back up to DVC members staying at other resorts after the 1st? I think DH & I would enjoy a little quiet time with an adult beverage after the holidays!

the only lock out days are 30 & 31 - so think it might.
don't count on quiet time - there are a bunch of kids.

like the lounge at WL much better - they have improved it.

Perfect-thanks! Last time I ended up going outside-I've always wondered about that sky walk. But after your post about the WL lounge, now I'm wondering!

BTW, they took TIW when we were there in June.

So apparently I was not a very detailed menu reader in May. I did ask my server if there were any specialty drinks and she just directed me to the same old menu. :( You will have to post details of your scouting mission Andrew!

I personally have not had one, only my Father. From what I have found through a Google search, the recipe is as follows:

Monorail Yellow
1 1/2 ounces rum
3 ounces orange juice
3/4 ounce coconut cream
2 1/2 ounces pineapple juice
3/4 cup crushed ice
maraschino cherry
orange slice

-Combine rum, orange juice, coconut cream, pineapple juice, and ice in a blender. Blend for 10 seconds and pour into a tall glass. Garnish with cherry and orange slice.

Sounds pretty darn good to me...
