Is this always put in a box for us to take home??

Can it just be served with the rest of the cake? I have NO desire to take my cake home and freeze it for our first anniversary.

Our caterer put the top layer in a box for us to eat that night. We didn't get a chance to eat any of our wedding cake at all. We didn't even do the cake cutting, which was our choice. I also, was not interested in freezing the cake and eating it a year later, YUCK!

This is a good idea if you don't want to save the top layer for a year later - at our wedding I think I had one bite of the cake before I was occupied with other stuff, so it would have been nice to take some back to the room when it was over that night.

Also, we did freeze the top layer of ours, but we ate it on the one month anniversary instead (which someone had recommended we do rather than wait a year when it might not be as good). After a month it was still really, really tasty so I'm glad we did that!

We had 38 guests and a small 2-tier that fed 50. Each tier was a different flavor so we wanted to serve both at the reception.

there were a few pieces leftover so the waiter boxed it up for us and we picked at it in the hotel and then took it home and picked some more. It was so delish!

Freezer space in my house is at a premium so freezing it was never an option. We instead had a replica made on our first anniversary while we were in WDW.

I took my daughter's top tier home since she was leaving for her honeymoon the next day. I can tell you this it was not easy at the airport because they took so long checking it at security and with the notoriously crowed lines at MCO, we almost missed our flight home! Not sure if people who fly are aware of this information, but just thought I would mention it here. Might be better to just serve it all at the wedding as you are doing. :thumbsup2

I just wanted to throw out there that we had saved our top tier and wrapped it up air tight when we got home. We had it a year later (this year) and to my surprise, it was great!! I really didn't expect much from it, but layers of wax paper, plastic wrap, and plastic freezer bags can do wonders at preserving a wedding cake. :goodvibes

My family would probally take it home with them as they ate driving!

Yeah. Freezer space plus the chance of moving is why i don't want to freeze it.

It would be nice but i probally would not be able to eat it anyway! Lol.

Thanks for the advice.

We had 18 guests and a 3 tier cake :scared1: (I have no idea why but dh insisted). Each layer was a differerent flavor, so we cut the bottom 2 and served both at our cake cutting. I knew we were going to have tons of cake left, so I brought the biggest (shoeboxsized) zip lock tubs with us and had a box of cake for each room full of guests. Then my parents took a big box (bakery box provided by Disney) and dh's family did the same. We took the top tier. We all had yummy cake for the rest of the week! However, I have a feeling there ws so much extra cake that some of it probably got thrown out, though no one would ever tell us that! For our first and second anniversaries we had replica cakes made on our Disney anniversary trips!

We asked them to serve both tiers of our cake. I know it didn't all get eaten, but we weren't going to take it with us.

A tip for those who are willing to wait the year and freeze it: each monthly anniversary pour a shot of rum or some type of liqueur into the cake! Makes for a very tasty anniversary cake! :)

In the UK the tradition is to save the top layer for your first baby's Christening - but then by tradition we have spice cake so it does keep better.

We served the top layer of our wedding cake and I don't regret it at all. Whatever cake was left at the end of the night we had the hotel box up so we could eat it that night later on, which we did. The only request we had was that one layer from each was saved so we could have a piece each. :) So I say go a head and serve it :)
