Top Chef Seven--May Contain Spoilers!

I may have read too much into the Quickfire, but can someone tell me how a dish that included several varieties of shellfish/fish could win a "baby food" challenge?!??

I don't doubt that the dish was good, but my pediatrician would have my head if I tried to give the seafood dish to my DS!

I said the same thing to dh about the lobster baby food thing! I think you are supposed to wait until kids are 5 until giving them shellfish.

Easy, they didn't actually do what they should have done, which was bring the babies in and give them a small taste(I know Padma's baby is still too young though). While I don't have babies I work at Target and see the baby food aisle often enough to know there aint no fish in them baby food jars:rotfl: Top flavors are your standard chicken, beef, turkey, and mixes of veggies and fruits. The gerber stuff anyhow, Wish we sold Beech-nut then I could really tell you. But my understanding is a lot of babies can't take some of spices they used last night.

Good catch! I can't even remember the dishes and the TC site is infuriating to look them easily.

What was it?

I thought that too, and I don't even have kids. Part of the challenge should have been to make foods SAFE for babies. :sad2:

Sad to see Arnold go. :sad2: It was a good episode though. The challenges were interesting. It was nice to see Spike from the Chicago season. I liked him!

I was sad to see Arnold go, especially since he wasn't working with a team player.

As for the babyfood challenge, all I kept thinking was that everyone was overseasoning the food that was going to be pureed. What babyfood is salty, or curried, for that matter? Babies go from icky formula or Mom's milk to bland foods that are a test to see what their systems can handle.

I thought they were to make food for younger babies. Maybe they were making babyfood for 2 year olds whose parents are bonkers and don't give them real food, even cheerios. :confused3

I was scratching my head at the "baby food", too. the only one that made sense to me was the vegetable chowder--you would give coked, mushy vegetables to a baby or toddler. I really expected to see more fruits, squash, mild cheese--the kind of things babies actually eat.

I made all my own baby food, and stayed far, far away from seafood. Frankly, they never cared much for meat in general, so we did a lot of dairy. And very, very easy on spices.

Spike is going to be on The View today. :happytv:

I grew up eating shrimp, crabs and redfish and I'm still here.:rotfl:Don't think mom pureed the shrimp,,,then again.

Have always said the only FAIR way of judging these shows is to not let the judges know who cooked what.
It becomes more of a personality contest. Study after study has proved you judge somebody by the appearance and name of an individual.
I wish the food was anonymous but that the viewer knew who cooked it.

Still love Top Chef!!!

Okay, I KNOW this is a typo - so I want you to know in advance I'm not laughing AT you... I'm not so sure giving coked food to a baby would have won any challenge on Top Chef :rotfl2:

Did anybody else get the TMI vibe from Angelo in the Quickfire?:rolleyes1

I skip through so what did I miss? Yea, I know I am bad. I can't watch all the "drama".

I felt the guy that went home was going to cry when he was not mentioned in the quickfire. I felt so bad for him.

Nothing stood out for me again. :confused3 Is this group missing something or did I get to snooty?

When they present their dishes they look "messy". I can't explain it. They need some presentation skills, I think.

I grew up on table food. Give me a shrimp to gnaw on and I was a happy baby!

My question is (I honestly don't know anyone who doesn't slip their baby table food): how in the heck do you develop kids' palates except by feeding them a wide variety of tastes when they're young? How do they learn about flavor profiles and such?

Not getting the shellfish thing either unless you're worried about allergies. I had many allergies as a kid; but that was related to living on top of a petrochemical company's landfill and drinking well water.

What's the rationale for this? The only thing I can think of is that you don't want to deal with delicate tummies, but isn't that a myth?

:rotfl: For those that missed it, when they brought the crabs out they showed him saying, "Well I used to have crabs, so that brought back a bad memory."

I was like: :scared1: He did not just say that! My boyfriend seems to think he was joking. I don't think he was.

In any case, I really can't stand Angelo, he drives me bonkers. Though I'd definitely eat at his restaurants...just not get the crabs

I like Kenny, he might be my front-runner. A lot of the others just don't stand out to me...that could be because I mostly fast forward through the episode :rolleyes1

I agree with a couple of PP's that no one seems outstanding at this point. Kenny and Angelo seem to be the front runners, but I just can't stand Angelo's attitude!

Did you catch the previews for next week? Is Angelo trying to help out some of the "weaker" contestants so he can pull them along until some of the others get eliminated? He is definitely all about gameplay.

That was my thought, too, that Angelo seems to "befriend" contestants and then they get kicked off.
