Top Chef - Season Two

I never understood all the marcel hating thats been going on. I thought they were trying too hard to make him the villain, even though he wasn't that bad. Until last night. Now I officially dislike him.

And I think Ilan will have my favorite line of the season next episode with his "Shut the ---- up, keep making your foams, and go cry in the corner." or whatever it was.

What did you think of Marcel (sp?) at the judges table talking about how HE really didn't need someone as the leader....
Marcel is the cause of many of his own problems. I was glad when Frank left because he was over the top with Marcel over the toothbrush incident. Marcel did this in front of the judges and so that is not going to help.

I keep wondering how Michael is holding on. He has to be going home soon because he talents pale compared to the rest of the remaining contestants.

Marcel is a little dique. At first, hearing his comments and such I thought he was MUCH younger b/c his comments sound like what a sort-of insecure brown noser would say to the teacher, but at 26 he should know better. He has no social skills, and I haven't been too impressed with his dishes either. Watermelon steak? - EVS!

I didn't like Mia so I am glad she quit, but really it was Elia's fault the team lost, so she should have been knifed. I am so torn - the end result seems rather unjust (even if Mia insisted upon leaving) but I am so relieved I don't have to hear any more of Mia's sob stories or her vast experience. I sorta agreed with Cliff that Mia needed to cut the martyr b.s. [but Cliff and Elia were rude and condescending to Mia when they were discussing the menu, so I don't really like Cliff anymore, just agreed with him on one point]

So, so glad Mia's out. Those tears she cried had the look and feel of crocodile tears, IMO.

And, even though I've been pretty much a Marcel cheerleader previously, his comments were more than a little tool-esque. And, lord he'p me, but I'm kinda hoping Betty sticks around for awhile, so I can continue admiring her plunging neckline, if for no other reason. :teeth:

Why does the hostess wear such skanky outfits!? The outfit she wore to the beach was hideous and the outfit she wore to the magazine party at the studio lot was not much better! Who is her stylist?! They should be told to pack up their gear and leave!!!!!

How is it that Mike has stayed on for so long!?!?!? :confused3

That would be, *ahem*, your opinion. I, myself, find them quite... nice! ::yes::

Yeah ... but you're looking at them in what she's showing off!!!! I'm talking about the way the outfits look ... not how she looks in them!!!!

How about if we replace skanky with ugly and judge the outfits on their own merit (take her out of the picture)?!!? That dress she wore for the magazine party was downright ugly!!!!

Did anyone watch last night?

It was on last night right?

It was on last night. I liked the quick-fire challenge-everyone had to cook based on a color. It was interesting to see. I think Betty's looked like a plate of grass clippings though.

The elimination was the 7 deadly sins.

Don't want to give any spoilers if you haven't seen it though. Ted from Queer Eye was a judge.

And Marcel-of course- made foams.....again!:happytv:

Yes, it was a supersized episode last night (75 minutes). Spoilers, if you haven't seen it yet:

The winner of both the Quickfire and the Eliminations challenge was Michael! And he deserved it too!

Betty got the boot! But, in all honesty, after seeing last night's episode, I wish they would have told Ilan to pack his knives and go. I know they all find Marcel to be a pest, but last night was ridiculously brutal. I didn't think that Marcel truly snapped at Betty. The cheftestants were quickly told to hold up on service when they thought they could go out with the course and he just quickly said, "Hold up." If it had come out of anybody else's mouth than Marcel's no one would have thought anything of it. And then Ilan mocked Marcel's dish to the entire dinner party they were serving. Completely unprofessional. Marcel's dessert looked much more appealing than Ilan's did. Sam also had an ugly angry meltdown directed at Marcel when they were food shopping.

There's way too much drama this season. I'd rather see more cooking and less back stabbing.

After a while the Marcel-whipping became just plain mean for the sake of mean. It was so kindergarten with everyone ganging up on him (not that I like Marcel mind you but it was pretty pathetic of the rest of the group, especially Ilan.)

Marcel and his "foam"...hehehe..Debbie Mazur said it looked like cat spit and boy did it! Chef Tom was right, Michael should cook on Vicodin all the time. Betty's quickfire dish looked just awful! Barf...

Did you catch all of the comments about Marcel being a virgin or not having any knowledge of sex? The group I watch the show with was wondering if there was some truth to that. Did Marcel reveal he's a virgin to some of the other chefs and that's why the kept harping on him about that? Why else would they just decide out of no where to start saying he has no sexual knowledge?

It was like bullying. I am not a Marcel fan but everyone is bottoming out on his level. Let him say those things - he makes himself look bad - but when everyone else starts ripping into him, they make themselves look bad. Especially the cherry comment.

It's one thing to make fun of his foam but another to curse at him and call him names.

I found the elimination so odd. They went back and forth between Ilan and Marcel so much and out of no where "Betty, please pack your knives". I was like - What?

It might have seemed a little odd, but I think that Betty made a bad, fundamental mistake in failing to properly puree her soups. Discounting, all the personality crap between Marcel and Ilan, their desserts weren't total disasters; one part of each dessert didn't work (Ilan's funnel cake; Marcel's foam). Betty's failed because of a basic technique quality chefs should be readily familiar with.

I started the season liking Betty, but she has just become totally annoying lately and has seemed out of her league in a number of the later challenges.

I still can't believe that I was actually pulling for Michael last night! Both of his dishes (QFC & EC) really looked like something I'd want to try.

Elia's chicken looked delicious also.

Anyone else catch Chef Tom saying he wished Elia had paraded the chicken around to everyone to show off the "pride"?

All I could think of was Beauty and the Beast...Elia dancing around with the chicken singing Be Our Guest, Be Our Guest, put our chickens to the test! :happytv: My poor dog thought I was nuts sitting there giggling hysterically to myself

I agree Ilan was completely obnoxious toward Marcel last night. It did seem like bullying. DH and I were wondering if there was more at play that they weren't showing us. :confused3 When Marcel was out serving his dish, someone said something about "the six of us", as if they were banding together but leaving out Marcel. That was low, along with the cherry comment (which completely backfired, LOL).

Did anyone notice when Betty was leaving  she hugged everyone but Marcel? I think that just made her look like a bad sport along with the others picking on Marcel. I was glad in front of the judges Marcel said what he said about people not liking him and that it should be based on the food, not personalities.

I was happy for Michael - I don't think he's ever been one of the Marcel bashers. For that alone, he's now my favorite. :woohoo: I would also like to try some of those carrot chips!!

Bye bye, Betty!! :dance3:

Elia and Michael showed the most maturity last night. I can't stand Marcel but the rest of the gang looked pretty petty. Of course, the way the show was edited probably had a lot to do with that.

I agree that there seems to be a lot of Marcel bashing just for the sake of it. He can be annoying but most of the others have their prize moments too. I like Elia more and more - her food looks tasty and she seems kind. Don't know if that can run a restaurant, though.;)
