Top Chef - Season Two

Thoughts?
Sayonara Marisa and Josie! :wave2: (Did anyone else think Josie should have been one of the ones listed on the most annoying poll?)

I agree with whoever said Mia is a phoney. Hugging Betty... (after last week).

The "leftovers" in the Quickfire Challenge were nasty! :scared1:

Josie certainly is full of herself, isn't she? Could she have possibly squeezed in one more comment about how talented she is in her exit interview? Maybe if that talent had actually lit the stove and cooked something for your course you might still be there!

Hey Slacking! Long time no see. Ready for another season of American Idol?

I thought it was kind of weird that all of the episode teasers seemed to make such a big deal of the fact that someone's time had run out (turned out to be Elia and Carlos) and they couldn't serve the dish as if that would be the big drama of the episode. Apparently, it made little to no difference in the long run.

I'm glad Marisa is gone. She stayed around too long IMO. Then again, Michael ends up in the winner's circle. I guess Ilan is just so talented he can make anyone look good. :teeth:

It's becoming SO apparent that the top three are Sam, Cliff and Ilan. It's really just a question of who ends up being number four going to Hawaii for the final.

OK, consider me completely out of the loop...
Who's Jennifer Coolidge anyway?

She was one of the kids (Stifler) moms in the American Pie movies. She's been in a number of other teen movies lately, it seems. Offhand, the movie A Cinderella Story (with Hilary Duff) comes to mind, along with the Legally Blonde movies.

Oh, I also agree that Ilan, Cliff and Sam are far and away the top three right now. :thumbsup2

She's a regular member of Christopher Guest's improv troupe. She's been in Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, and is in the new film For Your Consideration.

I just watched it on DVR this morning... so glad to see that stick in the mud Marisa go... UGH... her facial expressions gave me the creeps.

I do agree that Josie was too talented to leave (not more than SHE does I see) but that mess they served was inexcusable!!

Sam Cliff Ilan, my top 3. Michael, Betty and that annoying Marcel make the show, though.

And thanks for that explanation of Jen Cooledge. I never saw ANY of those things!!

Wasn't she also Joey (Friends) Tribbioni's agent on his show Joey.

I agree. I was done with her tude anyway.

Okay. Am I the only one who, at this point, finds Betty more annoying than Marcel? (Probably. )

I have to admit, after watching ep. 1, I found him a tad over the top in the, shall we say, self confidence department (and this is coming from someone who never had the slightest problem with Stephen from the first season; in fact, I wanted him to win). But then, a couple episodes later, Betty comes out of nowhere and starts blaring at him, in that sub-Rachael Ray, bar-hag voice of hers, about how much he gets on her nerves and how much she can't stand him. And I found that way, waaaaaaay over the top.

(I do, however, feel a bit of pity for Betty, post Mia backstabbing. She certainly didn't deserve that. Though I agree with what someone said earlier about Betty doing what Otto did and bowing out.)

Anyway, I ask again: is there anyone out there (besides me) who can muster even a little bit of love (or just tolerance) for Marcel?

I've finally caught up on this season's shows. I feel kind of like I'm watching a train wreck. I agree with the rest of your assessments of the top 3, but it seems to me that last season there was more talent in the kitchen.

Betty doesn't really bother me really, but I really dislike the talking behind others' backs. I like Frank because of that. I don't remember him slamming anyone on the show.

I've gotta agree with this. She came across to me with an arrogance that shouldn't have been there in the first place. Well, maybe if it was one of those dessert challenges on the Food Network but not for Top Chef.

So far my favorite is Cliff. He doesn't seem to need to bash anyone else in order to maintain his own confidence or to showcase his own ability. He just cooks and I like that.

Cliff is my favorite, too. He reminds me a bit of Harold from last season: quiet, not into the soap opera of other competitors, and extremely creative and balanced in his dishes. Ilan and Sam round out my top 3.

Michael was really irritating with his party-guy attitude in earlier episodes, but he really stepped it up with Ilan on the winning dish this week. He even looked genuinely happy for Ilan when Ilan was named the winner - compare that to Mia's face when her frog legs didn't win.

So glad to see Marissa and Josie gone!! Marissa annoyed me for a while. Right after the Otto lychee incident. If it really bothered her she should have said something right away. And not wait. And then to keep going back to that was annoying to me. Josie didn't bother me that much until last week. I didn't like the comments she made after the Betty thing went on. And the way she talked about herself being the best and most talented. If that was truely the case, she would still be there. Being the best cook and the most talented cook is more than just cooking well. The concept and presentation also goes into it. She was in the bottom 3 for the quickfire also. Yep, shes not the most talented.

You are on the money in my book. I think Ilan and Sam will be with Cliff for the top three. All are talented and seem to just dig in and cook. No whining that they were not trained for the challenge details. I'm glad that Michael stopped acting like he was at a high school party.

I really liked the quick fire challenge---working with canned foods! What a challenge for these chefs. I wasn't as fond of the idea of just five on the line but I wasn't surprised to see Carlos go although I think Micheal is not far behind.

All I could think when all of the contestant chefs were trash talking Marcel was "shut up, you fools." Tony Bordain was not going to take their word for it and seeing their hatred for this one guy made him put him in the top 2 instead of letting him go because his turkey was dry, especially after his lame excuse that it was the oven's fault.

I'd like to see Frank make good on his threat to Marcel.

Can you tell I'm not a Marcel fan?

I started out really liking Betty but now the woman irritates me to no end. She always has an excuse why it is not HER fault.
