FL is such a large state, I'm not surprised at all. I'd love it if I could own DVC and only live a few hours away! Of course, we'd have a neverending need for points if we could go often....

Someday we may live in FL, but that may not be until after 2042....

I agree Doctor P....it is interesting to see the rankings.

You would think Georgia or the Carolinas would be in there. I know some of it is sheer population weight, but I'm not sure I'd join if I were much further away from WDW than I am.

My hat's off to the California contingent.....now there are some dedicated WDW fans! Not to slight the other western states or even our foreign DVC neighbors....you guys take the cake!

Would be nice to see per capita numbers, too. Got a feeling a big percentage of us "snow" folks own, but are from smaller states (after all, if 4 people in South Dakota own, that's about half the state )

The 2000 numbers have Texas pretty low when you consider their population.

Yeah California... We're in the top 10... Now we just need them to build a DVC by Disneyland and I'm sure the Californians would move to the top 5

Yeah, nice to see CA up there...we like it that WDW is far away, makes our trip feel more like a vacation going across the US. Of course, we have Disneyland here to use points as well. We try to go once a year to WDW for a couple of weeks, if we cant we go use points at DL or bank them. Hopefully a DVC resort will be built here, wishfull thinking Im sure.

I was there last month & checked out the #'s for UK & Canada.
I believe there were around 1600 from OK and 970 (or 790) from Canada.

I was really surprised at that.

I did a report on this last year, but unfortunately that post was lost when the boards were changed over. Anyway, here's the table again from that report.

It's sorted by "Weight" where weight is simply the number of DVC members from a state compared to the population of that state.

Sorting by strictly the number of members would obviously show the most populous states first. Sorting by weight tells a different story. It appears that DVC is most popular in the Northeast, probably lots of snow-birds. The fewest members come from the west, probably due to the distances involved.

The totals do not include any countries outside the US as I do not have other country populations handy. There are several thousand DVC members outside the US, mostly from Canada and Great Britain.

The numbers are from 2000 so are a little dated. But it's still interesting. If anyone has the current, full DVC members listing by State, I can update the chart and repost.

Notice California doesn't do quite so well when sorted by Weight. In total numbers they may make the top 10 in the current lists, but that's only due to sheer population. At 34 million, they're 12% of the entire US population.

<b>EDIT UPDATE:</b> Thanks to the internet I found populations for both Canada and the UK. With 924 members, Canada has a weight of 33.0 from it's population of 28 million, and with 1804 members, the UK has a weight of 30.2 from it's population of almost 60 million people.
