10. As I write this, on Monday, February 17, we will have 1 hour, 41 minutes more of daylight than we did on December 21. Notice I said "daylight;" no guarantees of sunshine or warmth, but just think how nice it'll be to shovel yet another load of snow out of the driveway after work?while it's still light out!

9. The oil deliverymen have been very busy. Isn't it nice to be in constant contact with your friendly oil truck driver! He appears so much more frequently now than he ever did before; why, you could really develop a nice relationship?ask him about his kids! Exchange recipes! Since you're practically co-workers, you might as well be friends!

8. You haven't had to mow the lawn once since October! Think of it: those hot, sweaty afternoons when you'd much rather be sitting on the deck drinking a cold one and munching chips while you read a trashy novel?now you have time to do it! Put on every layer of clothing you own, get out the barbecue chips and dip, wade through the thigh-high drifts on the deck, shovel the crusted-over snow off the Adirondack chair, and enjoy!

7. You get a chance to wear your favorite winter boots. You know, the ones with the furry lining, the ones that keep your feet so toasty-warm and dry. You can wear those boots every day. For days... and days.... and days.....

6. It's fun to watch the weather reports and A) scoff at how easy the rest of the country has it, or B) feel lucky you're not having it as bad as the rest of the country. (We've been able to do both this winter, though A) has predominated.)

5. You get to play your favorite game with the kids, "Where's That Mitten?" Variations include "Find the Scarf," "Lost Bootland," and "Missing Coat Query." Teenagers can help you play "Boots Are Stupid?the Game," and "Hats Off! A Teen's Guide to Cool Haberdashery."

4. Wheeee! Isn't it fun to do 180s on icy roads in your new car! Watch out for that fire hydrant?wow, just missed it! Here comes the neighbor's mailbox?that's OK, he's got a post office box anyway.

3. There are all kinds of neat experiments you can do when the temperature goes below zero. Have you ever blown soap bubbles-and seen them roll around like balls and shatter on the ground like glass? How about noticing how quickly your hair turns to icicles when you walk outside in the morning with your head still wet? And then there's the interesting daily phenomena known as "car-won't-start-itis," characterized by a distinctive, ever-slowing aahrah...aahrah...aahrah as you turn the key, clench your teeth, and pray for an automotive miracle.

2. There's so much snow, there'll be no chance of your flowers not getting sufficient water this spring! Just think of all that snow melting, and soaking into the ground to awaken your daffodils and tulips, and turning the top 12 inches of soil into boot-sucking, shin-splattering mud, and seeping through your foundation and into your cellar, and filling the sump pump, and flowing under the washing machine and dryer...

1. And finally, the number one reason to enjoy the winter of 2003-you can eat all the cookies you want! Go ahead, you deserve it; don't you know you burn more calories in winter than in summer? Heck, just think how much extra energy it takes to keep those inner fires burning when it's 20 below zero.

LOL, Vanessa! :)

Really, you burn more calories in winter than in summer?? I'm glad to hear that, although it's not looking that way for me right now. All this filling "comfort" food I've been making is starting to make it's presence felt....lol :)

You know, I've been noticing the longer "daylight" time for a little while now. It's nice, encouraging! :)

....it'll give me more time to workout! ;)

At this point in the winter, my #1 reason for enjoying winter is.....

IT'S ALMOST DONE!!!! ALLELUIA!!!!!

Gina - Not soon enough.... not soon enough....

Amid - VERY FUNNY! I can especially relate to 7, 5 and 1.

Prior to season, I bought at a REALLY good price a great set of boots and was so proud of myself and couldn't wait to wear them. Now I HATE them!

Thanks for a great post!!! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

This is very funny and very creative!!! I think you should post it on the CB too (or at least a link!) It's funny because I know it's true, but you wrote it so good that I had to laugh! :)

Nothing better than a good sense of humor to help you through the winter doldrums.

I'd forgotten about how muddy it can get after all the snow melts. We had yucky clay soil in Maryland and it was horrible to dig in! As soon as it began to thaw, I'd want get out and work in the yard, but had to show some restraint before I got sucked into the earth and planted myself. :)

Thank goodness for our sandy soil here in FL!
