Toothsome Chocolate Emporium

I guess I'm not getting what is so complicated about making a milkshake, I mean yes obviously they have to decorate them up, but really should it take that long?

As bumbershoot pointed out, how on earth would you know to order before you were seated? What if you were wanting this as a dessert and you wait an hour to be seated and it takes another 30-45 minutes to get your food...guess you are having dessert first? If you do order ahead do you have one of those number holders to hang on to until your table and/or shake is ready? Just seems like they didn't work out the logistics ahead of time.

We want to try dinner there, not really for the milkshakes though so maybe we will be ok. Guess I'll find out in a week :)

There are just so many other people ordering them.

FYI they don't give a pager even for being seated. They text you instead. Not sure what they would do for someone without texting ability.

We went on Saturday night and it was amazing but still some kinks. We were told it would be an 70min (6PM) so decided to go into the park but got the text in 20 minutes while we were in an express line. My husband and other son were just getting off the boat so they got started with the ordering. We read a review on the meatloaf and I have to say that dish is to DIE FOR and can easily be shared. The kids loved the food. We did the crab/artichoke dip for apps (no totchos sadly) and it was OK. Not being able to order a milkshake at the table was annoying. The dishes they serve the desserts in are odd because when you try to dig in, they wobble all over. The waitress said people are constantly spilling the huge desserts all over themselves. It's hard to explain but they have to fix that.

All in all, we all loved it. The meatloaf was just entirely too perfect, making the other flaws no problemo!

Same with the fry containers. They have oval plates and then small-bottomed upside down cone shaped "copper" containers for the fries (seriously delicious). While we were sitting there the two tables opposite us had meals with fries delivered. Both fries went onto the ground before they hit the table. My fries got there safely. So 2/3 fries delivered nearby us had to be replaced. Not-our-server but the guy who delivered said fries said that he's already thinking of ways to fix it because it's a big problem.

We were there on Saturday (Aug 27th). They said they had been open for a week but were still not taking reservations. We were told it would be a 45 min wait for a table inside and 5-10 minutes for outside (it was raining but that had canvas/plastic curtains around the outside so you could still eat outside). Opted for outside seating and received the text in 10 min and to our surprise we were seated inside. No bread service with dinner which I didn't like; you had to order and pay a fee for bread. As others have said, they would not take milkshake orders from the table and the line was so long we decided against getting one. We had the Parmesan fries for the app which were delicious. For entrees we ordered Crab Mac & Cheese (super salty) and the Chicken Risotto (good). For dessert we had the Caramel Flan sundae which was pretty good and huge. The place itself was beautiful and I loved the way the waiters were dressed. Our server was amazing! (We had horrible service at Mythos the day before so having a great server was a big plus for us.) All in all we really liked the place and will definitely go back. Now that I know you can't order a milkshake at the table I would get in line while waiting for our table.

Looking forward to trying this place - but sounds like a total mess.
This is not unusual for a new restaurant - but maybe they should have limited things a bit more than they are for for the first few weeks.
Seems like they should also text you and explain how they do the shakes.

Is there are bar area and what is that like - same issue?

Does anyone know if they are offering priority seating for hotel guests?

It was most definitely not offered to us.

That's disappointing! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this changes as they finish the soft openings. I sent my traveling companion a blog post that I read about Toothsome. Her response was "let's cancel our hotel reservations and just stay at Toothsome for the week." I foresee a number of trips there during our next trip at the end of September.

this!

we were there last monday, on the first preview night.
our phone plan allows for roaming through AT&T, but AT&T cut us out in many areas.
Hotel lobbies, we're fine, Legoland fine too, KSC fine again ... citywalk ... errr ... "no service, emergency calls only" ...
so no text, and no text, no table ...
Cowfish does the same, but put us on the waitlist and told us to come check back in a given time if table was ready, but the chocolate factory ... nay !!! We were almost rudely advised that they couldn't accomodate us ... (I can't say if it's policy or just a bored or overwhelmed employee)

well we still loved to see the place. The gift shop is very nice, and some of the snacks look good

We didn't have a chance to taste the food ... thanks to our phone operator and stupid policies.
But from my own experience of not dining there, just visiting, I'd say it's a nice place, but it was probably already much overrated, even before it opened.

Do I have to use my park ticket first in order to eat there. We plan on arriving on a late Saturday evening but plan on making Sunday our first park day.

No you don't. It's part of citywalk which connects USO and IOA.

We ate there tonight. There were eight of us. They told us it would be 40 min which we didn't think was bad considering the number of people waiting, but we got our text stating our table was ready in 7 min. Our server was amazing and we all thought the food was delicious. We had the kettle chips nachos and chocolate almond bread to start. We all loved the nachos. Sandwiches and fries (or kettle chips) were also yummy. 4 of us had milkshakes for dessert. The rest had regular desserts. I only ate half my sandwich and about 3 chips in order to save room for dessert and I still only had about 1/3 of my salted dulce le Leche shake. We did have to order the shakes downstairs, but we got a buzzer to let us know when they were ready. However, our server had already told us she would get them for us. The buzzer went off, she took it downstairs and came up with a red velvet shake... Which none of us had ordered. And that was all. She took it back and came up a few min later with the correct shakes. They'd buzzed the wrong buzzer. They definitely have to get the shake stuff ironed out but everything else was great, and the shakes we had were delicious. We would go back.

What did you do with the leftovers? Was it possible to take the shake away?

Edited to tone down.

Gary, you do sound critical

Everyone has different ways they spend money and no one needs to bring that up here

Please use the pm system to talk to the person privately if you feel that strong about it

Let's keep the subject on track and talk about toothsome without offending posters please

What did you do with the leftovers? At $12 for the shake, leaving over $8 worth is a lot of wasted money.

Did you think you'd leave over that much food when you ordered it? I don't mean to be critical of you, but I think the restaurant is overselling (oversizing?) and people are buying it. There's a reason Ghiradelli doesn't sell savory entrees.
I think that they are take out cups when you order from the bar, if I'm not mistaken, so you don't need to actually leave anything. You can sip it along the way. Its my understanding that they are plastic with a toothsome sticker on the front. Maybe someone could pipe in if I'm wrong.

How did you find out about this? Are they actually telling people to do this now?

FWIW, we felt that the size of the entrees was *small*. And I'm not a "give me more giant food" person at all. But DS had finished half of his pasta in just a few bites, and he's not *that* much of a disgusting beast of a 12 year old boy LOL. Veggie burger was way smaller than the average Red Robin veggie burger, and WAY fewer fries than most places give.

Also, they do give to-go containers. :)
