Tools -- To the men out there!

Hello!
I am looking for some suggestions from the men out there. I am making a gift registry for Sears specifically for my fiancee and his love of tools. However, he is currently training in another state and he can't exactly go online and add items to the list. He just told me to pick, lol and only requested sockets. (I am discovering just how many socket options there are!)

So to the men, if you could create a gift registry for tools, what would you want to put on there?? He'd really love anything, but I would appreciate it if anyone had any suggestions. I'm just kind of going along picking randomly at this point! I think I had picked 6 different variations of the same socket set, lol, so I'll have to do some editing!

18 volt battery operated power tools. In order of preference, power drill, power saw (circular, reciprocating and jig), and power sander.

He would tell you his first choice would be an 18V DeWalt Drill.

Oh and for some reason all the dudes in my life love brake cleaner...yep just a bottle or 2, or 3......

Misc which are great for stockings:
Levels: small, bubble or laser
Clamps: assorted sizes
Gorilla Glue
JB Weld
The magnetic screwdriver head that can be phillips or flat just by rotating the bit.

Well if he wants socket, you'll have to go with a standard set and a metric set. Metric is usually used for car repairs, and don't forget to toss in the socket for spark plugs (for some reason, most sets don't come with it). Husky is Home Depot's brand and I like their tool kits. Craftsman is Sears brand. I forget Lowes. But they're all comparable on the same level.

Another tool, that I love, is a Dremel tool, and the kits are way cheaper than individual accessories.

As far as 18v sets, pretty much each store has their own brand, and then the other brands. Store brand sets are the ones to go on sale, as most store price match with 10% discount. So if they only discount their brand, they wont be price matching.
Stay away from Black and Decker.
Store brand comes next.
Milwaukee, DEWALT, and Makita are next up on the chain
Porter Cable, Bosch are like the high end tools.

Depending on the use and the amount of use depends on how high end you want to go. And of course there's a bit of a premium for lithium batteries. It's nice to have 2 or 3 batteries as well.

If you go with something like a Hammer drill, those work better corded than cordless.

A nice storage cabinet is always good too. I like buying whole sets that come with a case for storing all the pieces, but some bits are separate.

drill bits are a nice inexpensive stocking stuffer, they tend to break and always need replacing.
on the 18v drill sets, to me 18v has gotten to big and bulky. i own an 18v lithium set with probably 12 different tools that use the same batteries, but i told my wife i want 1 of the smaller/lighter drills, about 12v, like the craftsman nextec. when i am drilling something larger like aluminum, stainless, or alot of harder wood, i'll simply drag out the corded.
i don't know much about his likes or hobbies but if he likes to work around the house; a new hammer, tapemeasure, level, chalkline, powersaws, or toolbelt. i mean the posibities are endless.
the more you could mention about what he would be using the tools for would help, what does he like to work-on.

Needs a new auto screwdriver, I know PP mentioned the "new one" out there. I have seen it at Costco.

air compressor with nail gun and compressor tools

4 wheeled nice dolly that you can have upright or all 4 wheels on the ground like a cart.

my hubby has craftman tools,. We like them because most of the their tools have a lifetime warrantee, he is a little rough with his tools and they will let him return them if they break.

the other stuff we use alot are the air compressor, and the air guns..( we have the dryway gun, and the nail gun.

If you get socket set(s), make sure to include "Deep Well" sockets as well. Can't tell you how many times I've needed those.

Well DH requested dog bone wrenches in both metric and standard. Craftsman brand. DH has a lot of tools so I was so happy to have something on his list that I know he does not have.
Not to mention that DD thought the name was funny.

That is what they are.

Even my dh has stuff he saw the new tools in Costco and his eyes glazed over.

My DH is a tool man He does low voltage wiring and cabling for a living. The rechargeable dewault drills are the best. Make sure you buy him an extra recharbeable battery pack so that he always has one on charge while using one. Also, drill bits in every size/shape and configuration! Alan wrenches are also useful. Screw drivers both standard and phillips head in two lengths. The short, small ones and the longer fashioned ones. Also, a snake light and a head light that either is worn around the head on a band or one that attache sto the brim of a hat. LED lights are best Im told

And a good tool bag or two is always helpful. Because of my DH's profession he has an electricians tool bag and a rolling tool box that he can tote around like luggage on wheels.

Ohhhh.....electrical tape, plumbers tape,duct tape and masking tape all make great additions to a man's garage

Sincerely...if he asked for sockets then do sockets.

There are a ka-zillion different sockets out there for a reason. So I'd suggest the basics.
Set of metric and standard.
Regular and deep.

Accessories: Extensions (Never have enough of these!), adapters (to move from one size to another), u-Joints, and storage racks. I do recommend the storage racks. When I'm under a car and trying to figure out which drive I need I don't like all the sockets just piled up.
