Tool for cleaning a dryer vent??

Yep - I got one of those too. Works great. I even take it to where the vent blows outside and run it through that opening. It also works great for getting dust bunnies from under the refrigerator and stove. Or for retrieving cat toys from either of those places.

Thanks for the link! According to the site I can get one 'pick up today' at my local store. I didn't know such a thing existed. It is a good idea to use something like that. Our old dryer was impossible to clean. I tried sticking my hand in there and would about get it stuck. I tried using a butter knife, tried digging it out with a coat hanger, vacuum wouldn't even come close to touching it.

I really need to be more diligent with the cleaning of my new dryer... when they put in our new one, the guy said we were lucky the old one didn't catch on fire.

I have an Oreck, so no option for hose attachments. I found a wire long brush in Home Depot that does the job. It was in the cleaning section and I think they just called it lint brush

The other strange thing that we found was a bird built a nest in the outside vent! I went out there the first time to clean it and was surprised to see the abandoned nest.

We had the same thing happen to our outside vent. It can be very dangerous, not to mention slow drying of clothes. We now check our outside vent frequently. The lent builds up on the nest, then can totally clog the vent and also cause fires.

I got one of those brush things today at Walmart. It was hard to find, I asked somebody who looked all management like in the cleaning supplies... he sent me to housewares. Housewares never heard of it, they sent me to hardware. Finally some guy in hardware found one back near the plumbing stuff.
