Although we had thought about it for yonks - decided to look round DVC while on our recent Orlando world-wind tour of Orlando (6 parks - 4 days !!) and took the plunge - didn't realise you could get Disney's own Finance as a Brit if you sign up there and then - it became a no brainer especially with the price rise.

Although buying on the resale market would have been cheaper - we paid $ 500 down and were members there and then - 200pts (as a stater) maybe we'll add more later through resale. After paying the rest of the depoist its just over £ 115 a month (probably less now with the exchange rate). Just thought I would pass this info along as I had been looking at DVC for years and would have signed up years ago if I had known about the finance. All the DVD's and Videos seem to mention Finance not avaiable outside of US. This is 10% over 10 years and can paid off anytime with redemption charges. I know loans in the UK can be cheaper but Disneys flexibility made it so easy - no big credit checks or hassle.

Any thoughts on the optimim number of points to make it worthwhile ? We were vey impressed with the people there - we dropped in unanounced and were shown round the show complex with no pressure - they were happy to let us go on our way - no hassle - we had to ask them for more info. Our sales guy (****y Corsello) was great and very laid back. All in all a pleasure to do business with.

I'm working on talking DF into DVC. Hoping that after our trip to Disneyland during the summer, he will see it as a good investment :thumbsup2

Bobby Corsello was the guy who sold us our DVC at BWV in 2000 - he was very friendly and helpful

We have 180 points and have been able to use them for all sorts of accommodation - from studios at BWV and Vero Beach, to 2 bedroom villas at BWV and more recently we even had 2 nights at a Beach Cottage in Vero Beach. We have also used the points towards a Disney Cruise and a stay at Disneyland California. We manage this by banking and borrowing depending on our needs

Enjoy your DVC :)

We had the same guide as you back in 2004. However we wanted to buy as soon as we walked in. I love our DVC and have used points to take our friends, to go to Disneyland Paris and even an exchange to Devon last February half term. Hoping to use our points next year for a disney cruise.

I hope you enjoy your DVC as much as I do.

Susan

Is it still just the UK that they finance

Congratulations! As my signature shows, we've been DVC members for 10 years and just love it - it suits our needs just fine. We started out with 150 points but have added on 5 times since

We researched buying somewhere in Florida but, even with the property price rises they've had, I can honestly say we've never regretted our decision. It's first-rate accommodation with no hassle attached and lots of flexibility.

Enjoy :wizard:

JNS - I think you should be fine in Ireland. Basically you are getting one of the US finance packages available to US residients but we were told all the documents had to signed in Florida as we had no US bank account. Monthly payments are taken from our Debit/credit card. The advantage is they are quite flexible about the amount of deposit etc. We paid a deposit on our deposit - just $ 500, then paid the balance off over a couple of months. The finance is directly with Disney - no underwriter so we felt much more confident - they were great to deal with and did the paperwork within an hour. Now we know any problems as for the finance we contact member services - not a 3rd party - which is why we went for it. Hope this helps - speak to your DVC rep if you have one - if not not I could get Bobby - our rep to call you . His family are from Manchester - so he understands our Brit (Irish) ways more. Good luck
