Took the Autotrain and liked it

We just arrived home from Disney and this time, decided to take the Autotrain. It was me, DH, DS who is 6 and DD who is 3.
We chose to save even more money but staying in coach and I have to say, it was an overall very good trip.
Both kids slept all night on both legs of the trip as did both DH and myself.
The food was good, not gourmet, but good and the train was on time both ways. (was even an hour early coming home!!)

Good to hear you enjoyed the autotrain. We took our 5th trip in aug to WDW and had a great time. It sure beats driving the whole way. Our DC love to travel by train -- it has become part of the vacation

We live in the PA, the Lehigh Valley area, so we drove from here to the station in Lorton. We are a family of 4 and b/c of the length of this trip, absolutely needed a rental car. Our total train trip, including the tickets, all food, our minivan being on the train, et.. was just over 600.00.
Amtrak allows you to apply discounts if they come out throughout the year once you are already booked which is what we did.
Last spring, they announced that kids travel for 19.00 RT so we were able to get that deal as well.

thats a great price. i am looking to go next summer and priced it with AAA discount at 800 and almost 700 with the $19 kids fare. thats with 2 adults and 2 kids traveling coach. what other discounts were you able to locate? thanks

The earlier you book the autotrain, the cheaper it is. As it gets closer to departure the price tends to go up. The rates are pretty good-- it also includes dinner and breaksfast too

We have traveled the last 5 years on the autotrain to WDW and have loved every trip.

that is the 11 month out rate, july 2010, so i was looking to take off a lttle more.

I like the train idea....We are from south jersey....
My fi it man's daughter just took the autotrain. They have 5 total, in their party.
I think they ha sleeping quarters and had meals, too.....their total was pretty hefty, but heck, you don't have to drive....

This sounds like a good summer trip.
